I'm the guy who was making fun of people for saying Kentucky should call Sha! All I'm saying is Pope is an even worser idea. Him being an alum just makes it an inevitably toxic situation in 2-3 years when they don't make a second weekend but they can't fire the guy because he's nice & won a national title for them as a player.

Do you think they should hire Mark Pope?
I think they should hire who they want.

The question isn't whether Mark Pope is better than Shaheen. The question is, is Mark Pope an improvement over Calipari, even the Calipari over the last 5 years?

I don't see how that answer is even remotely yes.

Saying Mark Pope has a better resume than Shaheen (and he does and quite frankly it is not close) is not the same as saying he will do well at UK.
I think UK shit down their leg on this thing.

And Cal is laughing all the way to the Fayetteville.

We're on a message board. I made a joke about Sha being better, and that became the question.

But, again, I agree with you. Hiring Pope or Shaheen is a debacle.

His 3 year run at Siena. I am comparing mid major or even low mid major coaches,
DK was talking about Pope inheriting a roster not fran.

Anyway I really don’t think there’s this huge disagreement you think I’m arguing. I’m not projecting any success for Sha, but I’m not sure you can hold it against him the fact he didn’t have a chance because of his own success. St. Peter’s being a much worse job than Siena and Iona and 3 or 4 other maac jobs is a huge point in his favor.

I don’t think Shaheen is worthy of kentucky consideration, just like I don’t think Pope should be. Take alma maters out of it, does every school in the country believe Pope is a better hire than Sha?

Pope has 2 NCAA bids at BYU and would have been 3 in 2020. They finished 2nd to Gonzaga in the WCC and were ranked I believe in the AP Top 25 when they canceled the NCAAs.

And this year they moved to the best conference in the country and he went 10-8 including beating Kansas at the Fog and went to the NCAAs.

I am sorry the resumes are not comparable.

Fair enough I misunderstood.

Pope is a reach at this point. But hsi resume is better and quite frankly it is not close.

Kentucky and SJU finally have something in common. Before Rick, nobody wanted this job. and It appears Nobody is knocking the door for the kentucky job. lol drew turned them down so did our uconn foe, rick is staying put, billy donovan staying with bulls and jay wright staying on tv. Maybe Mike anderson, Norm Roberts might be interested?

I could see the argument that Pope could be better than Calipari for Kentucky.

Recruiting isn’t even close to being the same thing it was 5 years ago. Now, personality and charisma doesn’t matter much in recruiting. It’s who can offer the most money. At a middling school Calipari would be better because he could raise funds for NIL better. But lack of funds is not an issue at Kentucky.

On the X’s and O’s piece, Pope is miles better than Calipari. Pope’s offensive schemes are difficult to guard regardless of personnel whereas Calipari relies on superior talent and has still underachieved with that talent in recent years

Not if Pitino stayed at Iona. Not a chance.

And I maintain if Iona had not been upset in first round to Rider in 2022 they would have beaten SPC in final.

And he definitely could havce kept SPC near top but schools like Siena would have figured it out and along with Iona which are just better jobs.

Again he is a good coach. With a bright future.

But for someone with an incredibly THIN RESUME you are certainly projecting a lot fo success for him based on very little evidence.
Iona would have won a game or maybe 2 in tournament if they were not matched up with Uconn.

I don‘t know if these news anchors are permitted to just spew random stuff out. But if this were to actually happen, our program would be toast.
