Coaching Carousel

Seems like this would be a tough blow for Seton Hall. Holloway has done a good job and he is one of their own. All that being said, I am not sure of the “fit“ at Louisville. It will not be easy to get them back in the mix in the ACC. Holloway would be crazy not to take the bag.

However, If a picture of impatience was in the dictionary Louisville fan pictures would be used to illustrate. Crum and Pitino are tough acts to follow. This job swallowed Kenny Payne whole. Two years 12-52 and goodbye. The expectation would be very high Year One. Duke and North Carolina ain’t going anywhere anytime soon.
Also swallowed Mack. I respect Holloway as a coach and understand why he might go there. But I am suspicious of the fit and wouldn’t be surprised if, like Shaka, it is not a very long tenure there.

As a St John’s fan, I would be more than happy to see Coach H get the Louisville job. Other then a few wins here and there, we have played second fiddle to the Hall for too many years now. In a year where everyone thought the Hall would be going nowhere, once again they finished ahead of the Johnnies. Coach H leaving gives us a better chance of re capturing the met area as the areas best team.

The single reason Seton Hall is a better program than Louisville is because of Holloway.

In no other way does it make sense because Seton Hall cannot match Louisville’s facilities, rabid fan base, and of course NIL potential.

Louisville has made bad hires since Pitino. If this does happen, then Louisville will change that. Holloway will consistently take them to NCAA tournaments.

I always thought Holloway would eventually leave. It is great to be the underdog and have your team overachieve, but that only goes so far.
Last night Jay Wright said that you can only go so far at some schools and the urge to compete for a National Championship weighs on you. He of course was talking about his jump to Villanova and May’s jump to Michigan.

The school can find more money add to Holloway’s contract, but the NIL is more difficult.

While Seton Hall has had success, it still is stuck between big city SJU and NJ state school Rutgers.
If it CAN be done, Louisville coming to steal their guy will make it happen.

Halloway to Louisville can also have interesting implications for STJ. Who replaces him there? Speedy?

Also, what if it doesn't work out at Louisville and he's gone in five years. Maybe there'll be a spot here by then... I'd take him in a heartbeat.
100% be Donald Copeland, right?

I imagine the Hall will do whatever it can to keep Sha. I see a well deserved raise and retention for Sha.

I am one who is a great admirer of Shaheen but I would be shocked if Louisville was seriously considering him.

3 years ago he interviewed and was a finalist for the Fordham job.

This is a program who fired Chris Mack who was pretty successful at Xavier and at least early on at Louisville. This is a school that paid out tens of millions in buyouts for former AD Tom Jurich, Rick Pitino, Mack and now Payne. And didn't bat an eye.

This is a top 10 job with a rabid fanbase.

And the hire they are going to make to satisfy that fanbase is to hire a guy who has 1 NCAA appearance, no conference regular season titles, no BET wins and 3 years ago was coaching St Peter's and was a finalist for Fordham?

I am not saying he is not a good coach but that is a quantum leap of a hire for Louisville to make...

I mean, they were about to hire Dusty May. Resumes aren't very different.

Uh yeah they are.

FAU is a far better job than St Peter's. FAU got an at large bid this year, they didn’t get a 15 or 16 seed.

And yes Sha is coaching SHU now but the NCAA run at SPU is the big thing on his resume. If you take that away what exactly are you hiring him on?

If you take away Dusty May's Final 4 resume, what are you hiring him on? Sure as hell not a job for Michigan or Louisville.

Uh he went to the NCAAs again this year as an at large 8 seed.

His Final Four run was also as an 8/9 seed. And FAU spent a large portion of the year in the top 25.

St Peter's is arguably the worst job in one of the top 10 rated lowest conferences in the country. FAU plays in the AAC, a conference a few years ago that had UCONN and Houston.

You can't compare a 1 bid conference to a multi bid conference team/job. Not comparable
