Villanova’s Kyle Neptune is paid $4,4 Million per year. That is nearly $17,000 per day which would give you incentive to wake up each morning.

Wow.....didn't realize they paid Neptune that big. Here was my source on Cooley. I am also wondering what McDermott makes.

His agent should be in high demand.

The good news for me is if Georgetown raids Providence for a coach it will be easier to just root for them to fail miserably. I like Patrick and having empathy for Georgetown has felt very strange.

For the life of me, I still can’t fathom why Cooley would even consider leaving PC.
Maybe tired of watching the round of 32 from home.

I think there’s no doubt he could reach a higher ceiling at Gtown, the real question is can he live with the hate and vitriol that will come from his previous fan base and “home”?

That's honestly a joke.

Sometimes I feel it’s better for coaches and universities to leave well enough alone. John Thompson III at Gtown, Ed Cooley at Providence, heck Chris Mack said it about him and Xavier.

If you got something good why go out of your way to ruin it. Then again there are only so many Jay Wright, Tom Izzo, mark few, and coach k.

Maybe that Batman movie was right you stay long enough to become the villain (Jim Boeheim).

It is interesting that Georgetown is focusing on a Big East rival coach. If they are willing to "open the vault" and pay $5 million +/year then they could attract a long list of experienced coaches from outside the conference. I have to believe Cooley is courting them as much as they are courting him.

How about Cooley to SJU? Fr Shanley was his boss there is a lot of mutual admiration.

PC’s board basically fired Shanley maybe Cooley doesn’t like the administration and wants out , why not coach at SJU where you will get along with your boss?

Why go to Georgetown?

I think Rick is playing SJU and will go to the highest bidder? I think end of the day maybe we land Cooley.

If he's tired of watching the round of 32 from home, perhaps he should field better Providence teams that are more prepared for the tournament.

He is not jumping from a mid-major to a high-major.

I don't see that much difference between Providence and Gtown these days. It seems like a lateral move to me with a slightly higher ceiling.

This potential move has Ronny Thompson written all over it. John Thompson had an affinity towards Cooley, hence why Cooley's name came up originally prior to Ewing's hiring. Not to mention, the Thompsons and Cooley have the same agent.

Cooley has been solid, but as I said a few years ago; there seems to be a high floor/low ceiling vibe that resonates from Cooley IMO.

Cooley will come along as Pitino’s young, top assistant in order to be groomed for the top spot when Pitino retires.

For those clamoring for succession plan, here you go.

The only “on the surface” reason Cooley would leave is for a higher ceiling. He has everything else at Providence (salary, job security, good facilities, homegrown). Something tells me it’s something else making him want to leave that we may never know or find out.

Not that I disagree with your first point but for what it’s worth he’s only been a top 8 seed twice and won first round game each time.

A lot of Providence board talk about NIL issues. salary is one thing, but perhaps he thinks it’s capped out on that front with more potential there at Gtown.

Cooley to G’Town is a puzzler . Only thing is that a Coach with Cooley’s record would seemingly have a higher target Recruit to get to the Hoyas than he’s been able to get to the Friars . Providence doesn’t have the allure of DC . Plus , as bad a Coach as Ewing was , he did get too talent . He just couldn’t keep them . As for Pitino to PC is just nonsense . Rick isn’t leaving Mamaroneck and Winged Foot for the Amica arena . Plus , his Wife probably wouldn’t move . And , it’s laughable for the Media to publish a Pitino remark that quoted him as saying “ I don’t know where the St John’s Campus is?” Ha . And , his comment that Fr Shanley is a “ Superstar,” is quite revealing . Gave our Dominican credit for building most of the new facilities at PC . Clearly there is a relationship already there .

Maybe doesn’t get along with the new AD
