Coach Anderson

Someone in Nebraska just saw that, punched the Slice Bobblehead he has in his office, and began searching his phones for the numbers of the parents or advisors of our current players to see who he can call.

I just put these comments in the Steere topic when I realized they belong here - mea culpa :)

I sense a few posters have the Exclusive answer
1.to our thin roster,
2.poor shooting woes
3.and lack of big men.
On the other hand - there is always the other hand - I sense most of us understand CMA knows what he is doing, is fully aware of these three deficiencies, and has his staff working their collective backsides off to remedy the situations.

Can we also agree CMA is a talented, experienced and successful head coach at Div 1 level?
Can we further agree that a MERE ten months in the job is not exactly giving him the time and chance to put his recruiting into place.
None of us relish the Losing. Losing stinks and sucks the soul out of me, at least the SJU part lol.
But this is one head coach
I’m willing to be patient with.
All the best

I get the sense that CMA is a strong role model for the players off the court. His open respect and admiration for his wife, along with the family first attitude is front and center. I like that in a college coach.

This week's Red Storm Report has a feature on Mrs. A. She is "miked up" and you can hear that she is very into the game, knows her stuff and gets along well with the team. I can't remember any other coaches' wives being this involved and concerned for our team.

I first ask myself what am I doing up at 4 am and checking Redmen.com lol
Back to the JF point...
recruits who are used to being with family or some recruits who Have no
Living family and long to be part of one could well gravitate to this very family atmosphere that CMA is slowly building.
I’m pleased with those values and this direction.
Fruit will be borne imo.
Thanks Johnny Fan :)
All the best.

I know a SJ faculty member who shared with me the essence of “zero tolerance” class absence policy MA has instituted for players. It is air tight with weekly communication to academic monitors with direct information flow to CMA & staff. I suspect this approach is much more regimented and consistent than previously.

CMA gets that end of his responsibilities.

I sat next to Coach Anderson's wife in Chicago at DePaul game....she is really a big bball fan and a wonderful person....we really scored with Coach Anderson....I think he has a lot of humility and is a great example for players and students....Go St Johns

To that end Paultz coach Anderson is doing his part creating an environment that is admirable...I think a big part of a player's development has to do with the player himself...Practice and good work habits are part of the Coach Anderson story...case in point - Earlington...

Mike's director of player development, Will Bartlett has worked for him since Missouri.

Players attend class and stay out of trouble or they face the consequences.

In fairness, Earlington’s work ethic was “legendary” when he was in HS, except there it was focused on football. He has applied that same commitment to basketball in college. But, I am sure the atmosphere MA has created has done nothing but help Marcellus.

Johnny Redman
Two fine insightful posts in a row - you should contribute more often!
Thanks for all!

Nice to see Logen posting once again. Keep it up your insight is missed.
As for Earlington how a fan of the program can’t love this kid is beyond me. Two years ago many questioned why we were giving a ship to a football player. Last year he barely played and many thought he should transfer. This year he has proven time and time again to be a valuable addition off the bench with instant offence, rebounding and solid défense. With his work ethic I look forward to watching the continuation of this success story.

Wow JRL
From what you and others have indicated - AND in addition, Coach Anderson has assembled a terrific staff, same staff hitting the dusty recruiting trails, gets his kids in shape, driven to succeed but playing with values and within the rules, nurturing his young men to be better men - are we fortunate or what???
GO Storm!
I so much hope CMA keeps his .500 season record in check. He deserves it.

And sometimes my insight misses!! Mini self imposed hiatus after my posting (over) reaction following the Gtown loss. I posted about what I saw, but way, way too premature in MA’s tenure. Unfair frustration posts............

That is so good to hear and is probably one of a number of reasons He didn’t last at Arkansas. SEC is one of the dirtier conferences and it sounds like he didn’t cut corners. Despite that, believe he had one of the top records in the conference over his tenure.

And unbounded confidence. Let’s hope Williams gains similar confidence level. It is key to his development

@dalydoseofhoops tweeted this: Well, if the rumors of Anderson wanting to go back to Tulsa are true...

Haven’t heard this before. Anybody in the know hear anything?
