Mike has to play him more. If I'm Roberts, I'm not happy about not playing much.

Maybe Roberts asks himself, what other power conference teams could I start for as a sophomore?

I just personally think we need to get Roberts, Williams, Earlington, and champaigne as upper classmen. If they mature, this 20/20 class hits, and we add another quality piece or two in 2021 I think they dance as seniors.
Also heard the same. Also heard earlington/Rutgers chatter. In the end I think he stays
The Duke would likely get more playing time here than at Rutgers.

Believe the Rutgers chatter was to play football.

Let’s face it folks. We will lose some guys but we aren’t exactly in a position where it’s really gonna hurt us much. We are woefully under- talented as a roster right now. The only guy that will hurt losing a bit is LJ and I think we all know he’s gone to make a run at pro ball overseas which is fine and I wish him the best of luck. It’s the natural progression of a program with a coaching change, different style etc. we will see a very different team next year on the court personnel-wise, I’m sure of that.

Goes without saying, chronic issue for this program has been inability to retain frosh/soph role players who had ability to develop/contribute as upperclassmen.

Needs to change as it's difficult for program like this one to build sustainable winner without the stability these players bring. Helps minimize turnover and guard against the unpredictability of higher end prospects and recruiting game.

Tough to keep everyone in the transfer happy game obviously but Williams, Earlngton, Roberts and Champagnie are all the type of player that need to start becoming the foundation of this program as 4 year players.

Just to put this in perspective. I know many on here have made comments about us being a doormat in this conference and that we might not ever pull out this. They're upset with CMA's recruiting so far even though he hasn't even been here a year yet. Just look at Penn St. now. They were a doormat in basketball in the Big 10 for years. Pat Chambers has been the coach there for eight years now. He went through some tough years but now he has them ranked 13th in the country. If you have a quality coach in these situations you have to give them some time to build a program. I'm not saying it will take eight years hear but I don't it's as dire as some think it is and I think given time CMA will have us consistently in upper half of the conference. He needs time to build a program, create continuity, a mentality, get his players etc. If Chambers can do it in an insanely tough conference like the BIG 10 then CMA can do it here. Just some perspective.

I agree with most of your premise, but I can't say Chambers has actually built anything until I see sustained success. I'm not a person who sees one or two years of success and then feel a coach has built a program. Once, I see an extended period of success is then when I'll say a coach has built a program.

Frankly, outside of an NIT championship run, Chambers' time at Penn State has sucked. If he is mediocre or terrible next season, then this season is simply a blip. This is another reason why I don't understand why a handful of folks fawning over Seton Hall, Providence and Rutgers (again, a one season "run" for the Scarlet Knights).

Sure, if you match up Seton Hall and Providence's "success" recently to St. John's, then yes I'd take it! But outside of Big East Tournament titles, I haven't been overly impressed with either program (Seton Hall overachieved last season, but on par to what was expected of 'em this season). I'll say it again, right or wrong, you are ultimately judged on how your team fares in the NCAA Tournament.

JTIII looked like he had rebuilt the Georgetown program, and definitely had what I'd call sustained success. He started running into problems after his Sweet 16 and Final Four runs in back-to-back years. Eventually, the natives became restless due to his poor NCAA Tournament record after those respective runs. Those below par tourney games eventually seeped into regular season play, and would cost him his job.

Let's see Chambers' team perform on this current level for the next two or three seasons, and then I may become a believer. Right now, IMO, this season is simply a blip based on his past history at Penn State.

MA is the first person we have hired in 20 years who actually is a college basketball head coach. Ok Lavin, but he was a broadcaster when we hired him, and he has had the most success in that period thus far. MA put together a very good staff who all seem to be working hard recruiting. We have to give them a few years and some time to show progress. The talent level of this team right now is terrible and MA will have to improve it in steps, not all at once.

Another in the long line of very classy moves by CMA. I am sure many fans appreciate his outward gesture of acknowledgement.

While I believe CMA is the right coach for us, the comparison to Chambers at Penn State is a stretch. I live part of the year in PA and my son attended Penn State until transferring back to the city as he found it dull. Basketball is just a time filler between the football season and and spring football practice. The BIG winter event at Penn State is the Dance Marathon which has raised over $160,000,000 for pediatric cancer--that is the event students partake in.
Our situation should be compared to a basketball priority school that is a private institution such as a Gonzaga and how they built a nationally recognized and now an annual power.

Well stated Proud!
I think there’s a built in impatience in our DNA and neural pathways. Anything of value takes time to build. We have the right coach and staff, the best possible roster given CMA has been here a mere tenth months.
The kids are in shape and play hard. We gave Creighton and Seton Hall and G town a run for their money - and if LJ or Heron had been playing up to expectations - we would have 1 or 2 extra Ws.
There’s a poignant quote on this point - when I
Locate it I’ll edit this.
I like where we are headed!
All the best.

Van Macon is a very valuable, respected guy & key cog turning things around here imo.

“St. John's assistant Van Macon will be at the big Long Island Lutheran-Patrick School game today. A number of targets in action. #sjubb“

Yes,the impatience is sticking it’s ugly head out, not condoning it but yrs of pain and bad coaches and recruiting has created it. Let’s hope this coach and staff will bring respect and better days to the program.bwe are ahead of what Mullin created Next yr will see where we are headed

Problem may have been further up the table of organization. I am very good at what I used to do, and much better with a good boss protecting me from my weaknesses.

LuHI re new staff presence;

“ Been in the gym way more than the last staff, its appreciated!”
