Cluess

What's the story with Cluess and Carnesecca from years ago that gets brought up periodically ?
THIS!!!!!! This is it. He left for Hofstra and there are some people who can’t forgive it. Can you believe that this is the reason they won’t hire him!?!?!
Ron Rutledge was "forgiven" when he went left St John's to go to C.W. Post
How is his situation any different than Cluess's?

I am not suggesting Moser is a savior but he interviewed for UNLV.

Don't know if I'm all wet on the Louie vis-a-vis TC 'grudge' but that was the notion behind an earlier post wondering why Cluess seems to be the 'forgotten' candidate on our pathetic and opaque 'search' for a new HC.

Look no matter who we bring in if he can recruit and bring in top Talent we will win games and become ranked

Even if he is not Bobby Knight

Just a question for anyone in the know.
Who has had interviews thus far for the vacancy?

What I think I know is:

Moser interviewed yesterday and
Greg St. Jean interviewed last week.
I am not aware of an interview with Cluess
and Hurley did not have a formal interview to my knowledge.

Have they interviewed anybody else?
Are they scheduling interviews with anyone else?
Are they skyping any out of town candidates or do they want to do all interviews in person?
If they have not interviewed Cluess and are only doing in person interviews, then why would they not want to see someone who reportedly is interested and is also geographically easy to get in for a meeting?
Even if they are not seriously considering Cluess, the optics of having more interviews gives an appearance of them doing their due diligence that plays well.

Today?
No.
Hi '96. Do you know 'how' it was left with Scheyer?
No interest but thanks, or we'll get back to you during the process?
Because, unless he was outright nixed, I'd go after Scheyer and sign him this week.
Even a Duke AC wouldn't turn us down.
Or did he?
Lol.
Otherwise, sign the kid, then get Borman and Hsu and move on.
Let's put an end to this comedy of errors, that has not been funny.

Just went to ESPN.com and saw this as their third headline:

Moser turns down St. John's, will stay at Loyola

How embarrassing is that? Oliva is really screwed over the school.

The anger directed at Oliva makes me chuckle. One of the primary jobs of any senior manager is to manage up. An effective manager can sell his vision. If Cragg can’t get anyone to listen to him that just means he sucks at his job.

He owns this tire fire.
Uhg......no Scheyer please.
I opposed Scheyer early-on and he’s not my first choice even now, but what if he’s the ‘only’ choice?
But I’m curious, why are you steadfastly against him.
Some seasoned posters here seem to hold a high view of him.
Just curious.
I admit I may be losing perspective here.
I’ve become desperate for some ‘closure’ on this mess, as you so aptly labeled it earlier.

It's true, I am steadfast against Scheyer coming here. My reason is that, not only does he have no head coaching experience, his entire perspective is through a Duke lens. The structure, status and culture of Duke is nearly the antithesis of St. John's. While he may understand what it takes to be a successful program, he's never lived a rebuild.

But mostly......our next coach has to have head coaching experience

Great points. Thanks JF. People have noted those ‘negatives’. Others have focused on the high regard held of him by industry pundits, namely his ‘potential’.
I agree we need an experienced HC, but who?
Some names still out there, not named Slicky Ricky include Odom, Rhoades, Cluess, and backing up a bit, Dawkins, and Amaker.
I’m sure I’m missing a few.
But who is ‘real’, I wonder?
It’s gotten to the point where we need the guy like ‘now’ this late in the recruiting cycle.
As weak as it is, that’s my basis for bringing up Scheyer.
