Christian Jones

This one neither Moose. Jones is #30 and looks pretty thick. Maybe not quite Gathers size, but has size. See him next to Kamari Murphy #23 a bit at the end so his height doesn't seem too far off.

We have really established ourselves in Texas, really good move. Always great athletes coming out of the state.

Texas forever, Street. Texas forever.

Good point. We will have three Texas players on our roster. Others from Michigan, Cali/NV, Chicago, Ohio, DR and elsewhere. Really keeping it national.

Great get this late in the game.... He is a true sleeper! We should be even happier that lavin beats out the ok st and auburn oncecagain!!!

I'm a bit baffled by this move. The kid looks like a freak athlete. He looks more Ryan Williams than Glover to me, but that could just be the highlight video effect. The staff must like or know something that we don't. I'm sure it's a part of a bigger picture. Btw, Auburn better never hope to see our name listed on one of their recruits again, we have dominated them this year.

Welcome Christian.

Again not sure if this was postedt .

Like this kid a lot runs the court, nice mid range jumper and quick off his feet appears to be a good shot blocker trouble for our opponents Great get by staff

Ryan Williams could dunk but had no bball skills in the flow of a game. Look at the highlight reel again. He can a nice jumper, has some spinning reverse layups that looked real smooth and is a good bit taller than Ryan who wasnt a shade over 6'4". Those were two years ago of course, and his game is probably a bit better now. Really hard to question the staff when they have really brought in nobody thus far that has disappointed except maybe Lindsey who left.

That still doesnt preclude us from saving the scholi. If someone leaves or Hooper is a walk on,we can always recruit more players next year. But you are right when you say Lavin knows something we dont.

If you can recruit a quality player you do . Think he is going to be a good one

I am never sure about these highlight videos. However, what I do like is that this kid looks strong. Sometimes you have all these Freshman and Sophomores and it takes time to grow into a Big East caliber player. Looks like (physically) he could be more than ready for this level.

Lavin is a machine... Just amazing. Welcome aboard Christian, you are going to have a great experience up here in NYC.

A couple of quick questions:

 1. Has Jones committed to St. John's?

2. Is he eligible by NCAA standards?

3. If he is Big East caliber talent then why was he still available through the month of June, less than 2 months before classes start at most colleges?

Thanks for any replies.

Most likely scenario Otis is that he had some grade problems and just got qualified recently. He also probably opened some eyes this season at IMG. Not all to different than Kansas signee and one time SJU recruit Jamari Traylor. I hope he is qualified and think he probably is if we recruited him at this point in time in lieu of Wood.

Marcus, it's a highlight video. Show me a highlight video where a kid misses jumpers. Also Bossi told Moose the kid is only 6'4-6"5. Mabye he added some height. I agree the staff hasn't disappointed with their eye so far, but I'll wait to see. We beat out a very low tier SEC and Big 12 program for his services, not Florida and Kansas. I'll consider the kid a raw product with upside and hope for the best.

You can't compare this kid to Traylor. Traylor was a top 150 player and highly recruited including offers from Indiana and Kansas. He didn't just appear on a couple programs radars in July. Oh and Traylor didn't qualify. I assume this kid is qualified at this stage otherwise I can't imagine the staff would offer.

From his coach

“Christian Jones is a very good athlete who has improved his skill set tremendously,” IMG postgrad coach Loren Jackson told SNY.tv. “He is developing into a face-up four that can also play the wing position.

“Christian will eventually be a very good three-man.”

That quote I don't like. Doesn't sound like we are getting a power forward, but another Amir and Sir'Dom. How many three-men does one team need?

With all due respect to you, I will trust Lavin and whatever his plan is for all these players...

He verballed according to Lenny.
Really want to hear how Lavin explains this one

What is there to explain? He adds another forward. Boeheim recruits a ton of forwards, and even redshirts a top 100 kid like Cooney. I think Lavin just wants a full roster as over next 2 seasons we'll lose at minimum Gift, Sanchez and possibly Bourgault to graduation. Under Norm we had guys stick around for 4 years and get to the point of heading to NCAA's under Lavin, even with competition on the roster. I don't think it is a big deal that we have a full roster.
The big deal is if a top player from next year in HS, JC, or transfer wants to come to SJU we may have to turn them down. Only so many scholis to go around.. Jones sounds like a decent player. But he is 6 6 and not a top player. Almost sounds like Miekle from last years class.
