Christian Jones

I dont understand the need for him. Id rather save the scholi for next year , a lot of great players in next years class.

maybe Lavin knows something we don't like that someone plans on leaving after this year? Or the Hooper will be a walk-on or something.

That still doesnt preclude us from saving the scholi. If someone leaves or Hooper is a walk on,we can always recruit more players next year. But you are right when you say Lavin knows something we dont.

I like the competition for his services SEC and Big 12, seems like the kid is blowing up.

I don't understand the saving a scholi for next year talk.

Lavin is going to recruit for the 2013 class in the same manner with the expectation that scholarships will open up.

We've seen a record number of transfers this past spring and SJU is not going to be exempt from that. It's just a reality at this point.

With the absolute lack of depth we had last year, I am quite happy to see a full bench of scholarship athletes.

Agree. With 13 players, it's going to be difficult to keep everyone happy. I'm expecting at least one transfer. We'll have one or two schollies to work with for 2013.

Christian Jones, a 6-foot-8 forward from Bradenton (IMG) Academies, is leaning toward committing to St. John’s over Auburn and Oklahoma State, a source with knowledge of the situation told SNY.tv.

Jones visited St. John’s this past week and was on campus during the NBA Draft when former St. John’s forward Moe Harkless was chosen with the 15th pick by the Philadelphia 76ers.

Can't worry about keeping everybody happy. We will have guys that need time to develop, others that are juco's and already upperclassmen. Others will leave for NBA hopefully and some may even transfer. MIT is the nature of the beast. Best remedy is to play a lot of guys and win, and in our style we will. We aren't the type of team that will limit minutes to only a small handfulif guys. We'll play a lot of guys and send waves at opponents. Win more and less kids inclined to transfer.

I bet we get a commit before weekend is through.

Lavin said just last week that he feels like we're in a good position for next offseason because baring anything unforseen we're only going to have one scholarship open.

So I don't think he sees anybody leaving specifically. Although he admitted things do happen, people could declare for the draft or transfer. But he said he sees us having only 1 to fill.

But I think you're right that he knows something we don't. Hooper as a walkon is a possibility. Who knows how else it could shake out. Pitino seems to have 19 players on the roster every year.

From those videos he would have to eat Malik Boothe to get to Gathers size

He verballed according to Lenny.
Really want to hear how Lavin explains this one

What is there to explain? He adds another forward. Boeheim recruits a ton of forwards, and even redshirts a top 100 kid like Cooney. I think Lavin just wants a full roster as over next 2 seasons we'll lose at minimum Gift, Sanchez and possibly Bourgault to graduation. Under Norm we had guys stick around for 4 years and get to the point of heading to NCAA's under Lavin, even with competition on the roster. I don't think it is a big deal that we have a full roster.

I thin he looks thick and strong in those videos, but I didn't have a magnifying glass to compare him next to Gathers. Just saying he's probably bigger/stronger now as well.
