Chris Obekpa

Per Alex Kline....

The latest on 2012 OSNA (NY) PF Chris Obekpa - http://bit.ly/KDt7UZ - St. John's & UConn still in the hunt for the 4-star prospect.

Hahaha He is clearly just tweeting about the tweet we read from Obekpa. Journalism!

It's really amazing how most people fall for it too

In the end, it probably doesn't matter, but he's just doing his job, per se'. I see his site has been picked up by Rivals.

There is a great deal of anger on the Rivals board that Jerry Meyer was let go and they hired Kline. Plus Kline is offering his 'scoops' for a premium price on top of what ppl normally pay Rivals. In the beginning he took a lot of heat for not properly sourcing others who had information. He definitely got better, however not much to say here since it came from Chris' keyboard. Not like he ripped it off of another journalist.

So, Jerry Meyer was let go by Rivals? Wow! I recall briefly conversing with him, at the Peach Jam, a few years ago. He seemed alright. What happened between Meyer and Rivals?

Kline is really being an entrepreneur, huh? LOL I've noticed he's gotten better on "scoops" lately, and probably will continue to do so the longer he's in the "game."

Several of us do not expect Obekpa to be a part of our 2012 class, but stranger things have happened. I, actually told a fellow poster the other day that I've been more focused on Chandler's recruitment (eligibility) moreso than Obekpa's recruitment.

Kline is going to school in Syracuse, so that is going to really put a damper being in person for any tournaments or events. I don't see how he'll be able to run anything credible from Syracuse, NY without actually seeing being physically present.

Kind of strange how Kline said he wouldn't be doing this when he was 40 because it would be creepy for a 40 year old to talk to a teenage recruit. He pretty much took a shot at every other person in the industry with that one. Let's see how welcoming those creeps are to him in the coming years.

Creepy because Kline talks to recruits as a fellow teenager. They talk about girls, music, school, etc. It would be creepy for a 40-year to talk to a teenager on that same level – although it probably does happen!

Yanking chains! Pick a school Chris!

“@christopherewao: What bout st johns nd UCONN... What u think bout them... Good looks too”

I agree.... Pick a school! You would think we were dealing with a top 5 recruit, huh?

Cut the young man some slack. Though we may be tired of it, this decision is about his life not ours, regardless of whether his is a top 5 recruit or no recruit. I am sure there are many here who have agonized over something over a long period of time trying to make a decision, going back and forth. This is one of the biggest decisions of his life, so if it takes time to decide, so be it.

I'm usually one of the (patient) posters who ask folks to display some form of patience when it comes to the team and recruiting. So, I don't particularly mind him taking his time. Neither am I tired of his recruitment, as I've resigned myself the he won't be a part of our program. Part of my post was done in jest while a part of it was serious.

Being a parent of a graduating HS senior, I guess I am a little more sensitive to them making a college choice. Some know right away but I have seen several kids agonize over making a decision, including some who are getting money for athletics and/or academics.

Little off track, Georgetown gets a 6-11 center Bradley Hayes Why can't we seem to pick one up I know we have hopes for Candler but if we do not land him are we going to next season without filling that important need??

yeah, i'm hoping they forfeit all of next year if they don't get Chandler or any other big. No reason to play games that we are going to lose since we don't have anyone 6'10 or above :silly:

We can't force someone to want to come here. Plus, posters who have seen him say he's not that good, so at least complain when a team gets a late commit from a good big man.

Wasn't s complaint just an observation I said for the record I like what we recruits are on board/

First off, Alex doesn't go to a TON of events as it is. He does most of his communicating through Facebook, texting, calling. For what Alex does, you don't really have to go to events. He covers recruiting. He doesn't do prospect evaluating. He can do what he does mostly from the comfort of his home (or dorm). There are a lot of people in the industry (mostly some veterans) who are jealous of Alex and what he's accomplished at a young age and how he's using his technology to show that you don't have to go anywhere to cover recruiting.

As for Meyer, he and Rivals parted ways a while back I believe. I actually think Alex busts his butt to get info much more than Jerry does or has done.

Kline and Obekpa have something in common -- they are both not coming to St. John's -- so you won't be finding what you are looking for here even if the thread stays on track.
