(Charleston Classic) Dayton, Fri., Nov. 17, 2p, ESPN2

If Rick P wants to demand all his players, rebound, pass, and defend, and is willing not to budge on that for anyone early in the year, then we should be thankful for it. Music to my ears.
Seems weird to demand 6-2 point guard rebound but not demand your point guard doesn’t turn the ball over 5 times a game and shoot every third possession.
Again just find Dingle stuff strange

Gonna need you and Dave to lead that charge... some of the pics of our fans in the stands... would put average age... 60+? Not exactly the most... enthusiastic? age bracket...lol

Applaud everyone for traveling though- looked like a very good showing from our fan base.

We got a W with our Offense looking like a what... 2/10? can only get better. Let's get that Dub!
I guarantee you my crew will be loud

Not mutually exclusive. Dingle is huge. Not asking him to box out charles Barkley. Asking him to pretend like he’s interested in helping on the boards.

Obviously Jenkins TOs are an issue.

Just seems uncomfortable and all this stuff coming out about what he doesn’t do, I don’t think helping. He does one thing very well and just think him getting efficient 20 would help mask a bunch of things this team struggles with.

Agree he looks uncomfortable. My opinion is if he got himself going doing other things that don’t require a made shot, he might just get himself more comfortable.

It’s that and also I don’t want guys who show no interest in other parts of the game not involved with their own points. This isn’t Larry picking up coeds at pace or sju.

If they shoot that poorly how are they the right guys?:ROFLMAO:
I don’t think he will shoot that poorly, but I can live with it if he does here and there. That would be my message as his coach. I’m not okay with Jenkins shooting at that volume.

Dingle was brought in to score for a roster that clearly needed an alpha scorer. If that’s not Dingle, then this is an NIT team.

I imagined him in the Hatten/Ponds role
Def didn’t see Jenkins in that role

Dingle as brought in as 1 of 12 transfers, so far he has shown little; you think he is an alpha scorer, I have no idea, but I have not seen anything resembling that type of player but ridiculously early to be judging IMO. And maybe this is an NIT team, that also very much remains to be seen.

The 2 $64,000 questions are:
1) do they have, even, a decent lobster roll in the area?

2) do they have BRONX IPA or did @mjmaherjr smuggle down a case or two of it down with him?

Zach B. Comments:

St. John's faces Dayton at 2 p.m. First, a few thoughts on yesterday's win over North Texas:

- I loved the start. But similar to Michigan, St. John's didn't finish the first half well and started the second half even worse. They have to figure out how to avoid that today. The offense goes from free-flowing to stagnant way too quickly.

- North Texas is a very good defensive team, and it limited touches for Joel Soriano. That said, he can't ever take five shots in a game. St. John's has to find him more touches, especially in the paint. He's getting the ball way too far from the basket.

Liked the minutes Zuby Ejifor gave St. John's. Was by far his best stretch so far. Was surprised he didn't play more in the second half.

- Daniss Jenkins was accountable for his turnovers, saying he needs to be better and stop putting himself in bad positions. Rick Pitino acknowledged he's playing him too many minutes. Expect to see more of Simeon Wilcher today.

- I know there's been a lot of criticism of Jenkins, and some feel he's not getting the ball to Jordan Dingle enough. But Dingle passed on some open shots yesterday. Clearly, he's lacking some confidence. Has to get going for this team to take a step forward.
I have no idea what Zack is talking about here with his last point but Dingle absolutely did not pass up open shots. I can't even think of one that he passed up.

The thing is if he is not that guy, he will lose minutes to Wilcher with Jenkins moving to the 2, I think. If that works, still an NCAA team

I'm nobody's apologist nor does he need me to be ...in respect to Jordan it's clear he looks out of sorts. Rick loved his drop down to cover the post on a switch steal yesterday as well as his drive and dish to Joel ... he missed so much time both running the system and getting shots up. He's thinking offensively instead of reacting. Coach wants him to rebound more. Pass more. Play better defense. When he gets his feel back and the spacing and offensive communication improves he will be fine. RJ's shooting and slashing from the wing will also immensely help him. Long season. Big game today enjoy everyone

Just maybe Rick should tell Jenkins to shoot more and Dingle to shoot more.

Lots of posts about Jenkins taking too many shots which I agree with but also want to make a distinction between shooting and layups. At one point in the game yesterday I believe I counted 7 or more drives to the basket where he didn't quite get to the hole and ended up putting the ball up off the backboard at a very severe angle and not even coming close to making the shot. I didn't mind his shooting but drives that don't get there and end up as blind prayers need to come out of his repertoire! Without those shots yesterday he would have been more like 6-11. From what I've seen of video, Dingle and Wilcher are both much more likely to finish those drives with buckets.
