BC is a bad situation with maybe the worst administration to work for and an an almost non existent fan base under the age of 50. If he was having issues with MQ admin why move to BC?

Thing is STEVE'S resume isn't that great currently.. Insiders know his limitations on the Bench better than we do..Pete Gillen on CBS was incredulous as to how poorly we played against Providence and RMORRIS. Said it was like we had never seen a zone all year.

This stinks, but I have to assume Va tech really ponied up to pay him the big bucks. Also fwiw I don't think VT is an awful job. They have facilities and a big athletic budget. If u have a recruiting expertise outside of the mid atlantic, and don't have to compete w UNC and Duke, then I think u can be successful there.

Ex-St. John's coaches never get better jobs. NC State was the better job but does Mary strike you as a Carolina girl?

Like taking the Miami or Fla. St. job.
Something smells rotten here.
Marquette is a quality job.

He did a mediocre job this year after Marquette was picked to be the favorite in the Big East. No NCAA or NIT. He will be a bottom feeder in ACC.

Milwaukee was a surprisingly (to me) nice town. Stayed there a couple of days and it had a nice downtown area with good restaurants as well as some more rural areas close by. Also very close to Chicago. For me Chicago nice place to visit but would never live there. However, I'd take Milwaukee over Chicago or Blacksburg. Took my family to the Wisconsin Dells a couple of times and it was a great area for family vacation.

Thank you mj, can't believe the doom and gloom regarding this hire. If Marquette goes out and makes a good hire it'll a lll be forgotten like buzz will be when he finishes in 9 place in the acc.

I agree Paul. I visited during the summer also when Al was the coach while I was a student St. John's. My wife's best friend (then my fiancee) was Al' s niece. It was a NYC crowd and the warriors ruled Milwaukee as they still do. Blacksburg is one big ROTC school.
 
I wonder if he got his agent to negotiate Tom Crean to set the table for him like he did at Marquette? Redneck...good luck winning at that school. He'll be moving to a big state school in the Big 12 in the next 2-3 years anyway. If he doesn't, he'll have two NCAA appearances in the next decade. Career suicide if he stays.

This guy had it all at Marquette and showed no loyalty leaving for a lesser program. Wow. Good riddance.
 
Buzz was all right. And we would've built a statue of him were he our coach.

But how can anybody not see Ben Howland as an immediate upgrade for Marquette?

All in all he is still a very good coach. Not saying he cant be replaced but he did an outstanding job while at Marquette
 
This move by Williams makes no sense at all! Not even a lateral move! Only benefit I see is the 7 year contract. 18 mil for 7 years and if he shits the bed he is set for life. I guess I answered my own question!
