Interesting article about Buzz Williams, containing some insight into his decision to leave Marquette for VT. It seems Buzz felt his chances of maintaining success at Marquette were unfavorable, and that he was better off moving to a conference with games played on ESPN rather than FS1. He considered this to be an analytical rather than emotional decision. Buzz appears to be a offbeat guy, and the article mentions some of his unconventional personal quirks. For instance, he took the liberty of memorizing all the presidents in chronological order last year.

I want him to fail at Va Tech almost as badly as I want us to win. I really don't buy that he thinks he couldn't maintain success at Marquette on a level that he cna at Va Tech. He had an awesome recruiting class coming in solid young guys already in the program. Would he have had the luxury of having several NBA guys like what he inherited from Crean, no, but he had a top 3-5 program in the Big East. He'll never be a consistent top five team in the ACC.

Not just the order of the Presidents but the years in office. Nice.

Last week, my youngest had his school concert (elementary school). One of the songs they did was a song about the Presidents and they named all 44 in the song (yes Grover Cleveland was named twice in between Harrison. I thought this was a great way to learn and remember all 44 Presidents similar to the way I learned the Preamble of the Constitution from School House Rock (when we actually started studying it, most of the class knew it for the same reason).

As far as Buzz and his decision, I think many of us have concerns concerning the coverage and exposure we will receive on Fox1 compared to ESPN. Actually I don't doubt that their are other coaches who came from the old Big East who share Williams sentiment. The difference a guy like Thompson is synonymous with Gtown because of his father and his time there so it would be extremely tough to go and he is still in a position of strength because of the names of Georgetown and Thompson. A guy like Wright has been at Nova for so long and has the school name out there, he is in a similar boat . Williams on the other hand did not have that luxury as his tenure was shorter and Marquette just doesn't have the same name appeal. However do you make that move for Va. Tech? I don't know. Maybe you wait it out another year and see what opens up. In addition, you did have a great recruiting year and who knows what could have happened.

I think that, if you do the research, Marquette has historically been much more successful than Va Tech in men's basketball
Marquette has 1 national championship
Va Tech has been in the NCAA tournament TWICE in the past 27 years
I would be very surprised if I live long enough to see Va Tech hoist a banner
