Butler, Wed. Feb. 28, 9pm, CBS SN / Radio TBD

Great win!! So happy for this gritty team. Amazing the amount of minutes these guys played last night. Clark , Simon and Ponds will be beasts next year. Let's hope Ponds stays. I think he will. Onward and upward.

Amid all the accolades, all deserved, we were just 17 seconds away from a 5 point or more home loss. Had the three events not occurred (the Clark 3, the out of bounds call, and the layup by Simon) the negative barrage would have exploded.

Yea, we are all hungry and ready for a winner here. I get it. But in process and impatience, we here are turning into the worst fans in the conference, perhaps among the worst in the country.

We will lose again by the end of next week, and unless a post season bid materializes somehow, the negativity will start again en masse. Maybe its just on these blogs, but I don't get the sense of bottled up rage at CA among fans, or at RW, that occurs on here.

It's easy to think that what is posted here reflects what most fans think. I don't think it does, and that's likely a very good thing.

Yes, those of us who post here are different from the rest of the fans, most of whom are entirely apathetic.

Well, the fans on here are probably among the most passionate and invested fans the program has. Most fan blogs exhibit these kinds of wild swings of emotion and sentiment. But to say that SJU fans (or those on here) are the worst fans in the country is a little bit of hyperbole. And not quite verifiable. Seriously, though, I think most fan sites are like this one. And, while the swings of wild approval in victory versus the agonies of defeat are certainly evident depending on the outcome, that is not unique here.

Perhaps what is a little unique is that we have fans here who remember the glory days, and want a taste of that again, and are very impassioned about that, and growing weary of the seemingly serial failure of expectation. I think SJU fans (including those of us on here) are good fans, love the program and just want to see sustained success.

A close loss yesterday might have brought some bitter reactions here, but I would bet that many of us would have spoken positively about the effort in the face of the odds without Ponds, etc. Fortunately, that wasn't necessary as these guys worked their tails off to earn a win against an NCAA bound team.

I guess the short version: Lighten up.

What a great game! The type of game that we usually lose and have to settle for an appreciation of a noble effort.

Finally got to see some of our guys box-out on rebounds; yea AA.
Owens presence at the hoop was annoying to Butler, if not intimidating, but please don't dribble down low.
Simon played a great game, just needs to rethink some of his passes.
Bashir played a very good game, but needs to give the ball up even in a crowd.
Clark was Clark, stable influence and dangerous from the three.
Refs let the kids play and seemed to me to call a very good game. Was kind of surprised they called a T on Butler.
Team stands at 15-15. Gotta beat Providence, remember Cooley whining and not shaking Mullin's hand after we beat them.

I'm getting excited for next year. Mullin and Co. will have had 4 years coaching experience. And re-enforcements will arrive to add to an experienced and capable core.

I find most posters are grounded, realistic and supportive of the program. Critics are entitled to their opinion. This is a fan board not the Vatican.

Of course if some guys get nasty and inappropriate, I trust the Mods will deal with it. It is their job not ours to be gatekeepers. Nothing bothers me more than to be preached to. Suspect most feel the same.

Gotta be honest, didn't think we had a real chance with Ponds out. Everyone stepped up, what a great win. Means a lot on senior night at home. Evens our record to 15-15 and I'd think if we can win the last game we might squeak in the NIT even with a 1st round BET loss. Isn't .500 as a Big East team with 2 top 4 wins and a pretty solid Nebraska win enough of a resume? Maybe not, but I feel like it should be. We could give the NIT another brand name, we made lots of headlines this season. Making the NIT would alleviate some of the pain from this season IMO. Next year it has to be NCAA's or bust though. For that to happen we need 1) a real big with solid talent and 2) a veteran assistant coach for next year. If we get those 2 and Ponds and Owens stay, I expect nothing less than the NCAA's barring catastrophic injuries.
And to think we have Simon another two years. Not bad stats tonight - 24 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals.
Not if he continues to play like that.

Most importantly of all, we won our 15th game. This is a huge psychological lift off everyone's shoulders. It shows improvement. While I'm not happy with our conference record, it beats losses to LIU, Delaware state and Old Dominion last season.

Make or break next year. Let's steal one at the Dunk this Saturday. Guarantee ourselves of at least a .500 season.

Regarding the "bipolar", "worst fans" I think that's pretty histrionic IMO. Every single fan blog is like this. There's a range of opinions in a typical distribution. It's 100% logical to observe posters with more negative POV's when the team is not doing well and more positive POV's when the team is doing well. It's exactly what you'd expect so not sure why it's surprising to some. If this was a regular top 25 team routinely making tournaments, this would be the happiest place on earth. I think it all comes from the passion. Someone said the fans at the games don't seem to be as negative. My guess is that they don't read or post on this forum. The fans on this forum are diehards who probably care much more than the typical fan going to watch a game. That's my guess. The fanbase attitudes are a direct result of the program's performance. That's true with anyone.

This game demonstrates that our talent is on par with a majority of the teams in the Big East. Unfortunately, a short bench has lost us a few games we could have won. Glad that Amar had a chance to start and contribute on the defensive end. Also glad that foul on the three didn’t lose us the game. Yakwe came in and immediately got three rebounds for us. He also helped defensively in the few minutes he played. I wish those guys had been able to help us earlier in the season. Owens might have been more effective at the end of games if he had gotten more rest and had fewer fouls in some of the games. Hopefully, a deeper squad next year will see a great deal more success.

Not sure if their are fan blogs for Knicks and/or Mets, but if there are, guarantee they are way more negative than this board ever gets.:p

Amar is not a very talented player, That being said, you have to look long and hard to find a kid who sitting on the bench most of the year, maintains an attitude that is infectious. He seems to be excited all the time. He has GRIT, and GUTS not found in most people. He sits most of the time, but he is ready at a moments notice. He does anything asked of him. Most players when faced with the fact that they were not going to play much would have defected, but not Amar. He never belly-ached and now his 4 years are coming to a close. He will get a degree, and with his no-quit attitude will probably go on and become a proud addition to the alumni of this University.

Simon's here for two years if Ponds comes back and dominates the spotlight. If Simon is the man next season, he definitely attracts a lot of scouts' attention.

Got a kick out of Szerbiak's comment, "That's Alibecovig's specialty" after taking a three point shot.

I think fans have a right to be "Bi Polar" when you are 15-15 and 4-13 in conference.

I think people expected things to be further along in year 3. Staff does not have a proven track record so things are up in the air on whether or not this will turn out well.

I think if we were winning by 20 then losing by 20 to the very same teams, then a bipolar response would be appropriate. We've pretty much been competitive all year, and played similarly - just not good enough to win most nights. I completely get the elation of beating a Duke and Villanova and praising everyone. But not losing away at Marquette, or overtime to Seton Hall, and then turning on those same guys and coaches.

I know Mullin for a fact, does not read any form of social media in any way shape or form, but the younger coaches do. All the players do, and some of their twitter comments reflect their feelings of being spoken of poorly in places like redmen.com and others.

Matt A. is a pretty resilient guy, but family members of his are pretty upset at what is said about him and the team here in New York on social media that wasn't said in Iowa.

You can all think it's appropriate behavior but for the most part this board is men above the age of 45 and to me it's just inappropriate to react so harshly at times when this team is so damned short on the bench and in stature YET playing so hard even during the 11 game losing streak. St. Jean came to St. John's form an NBA stint where his job was to review tape and help the staff offer correction and strategy. Do you really think they don't work on errors in subsequent practices and the results are starting to show over the past 7 games?

I chose to take it for what it is and enjoy what is there to enjoy. While I don't expect everyone here to do the same, it would be nice if the lanes were just a little narrower when we win or lose.

This board hasn't changed in 20 years. Some new posters might have changed but the personalities haven't. People are passionate. Some get carried away and some don't. Generally I try and keep things light but even I get get carried away during a game sometimes. This is New York and definitely not Iowa and you can definitely make a case that this board is much calmer now than the ending of Jarvis and the Norm years

For me at least if I wanted to read a bunch of lala posts I'd go find a good housekeeping message board. But that's just me and seeing a couple of posters go off the rails doesn't bother me too much anymore.

Most people here get angry because they care
