Yep Chicago, they won!!!
Keep saying it lol

Guys...
I confess, I did not listen or watch the game - just too nerve wracking for some of we fans - “weaklings” I know :cheer:
I guess the Civil War took too much out of me lol

I was reflecting that even though there was “nothing on the line”, no tournament birth, no championship, this may be one of the most courageous games the Redmen and Red Storm ever played...
All the best
We are St.Johns!

Great effort and great win by the team!
Great job by staff and team to stay focused when it was slipping away. They have def learned how to will out the close ones.
Speaking of coaching a big assist goes to Butler staff for letting their team shoot 35 3’s against a team with 6 healthy players instead of taking the ball to the hole and fouling guys out. Not sure what they were thinking.
Good for AA. He made a difference tonight.
And more good news - in a season of bad news - we signed the NJ football kid from John Bosco... can’t think of his name
Another Anthony Glover perhaps - short frame, big heart!!!

Clearly a tremendous win in a season dotted too sparsely with conference wins.

Terrence (brother of incompetent) told me at halftime that he thought the team was playing better and and better.

But they had just lost 2 in a row headed fir the third. Surely even a bigger idiot than the 2 million dollar man.

Or maybe the guys who know basketball actually know what they are seeing.

So much fun to be at the Arena tonight. Did not walk in very optimistic with memories of the beat down we got from Butler at their place a month ago. When I saw Ponds was out of the game my optimism was even lower.

As the game unfolded it became clear that our two seniors were inspired to be getting a shot to make a mark in their last home game. Kudos to both Ahmed and Alibegovic, they both contributed significantly to our victory tonight.

Down five with 17 seconds left I consoled myself to writing another good effort but close defeat epitaph. That said the wild emotional roller coaster of the game continued on. With great play by Clark and Simon mixed in with a missed turnover call that took an insane amount of time for the refs to correctly reverse (what were they looking at on their replay monitor. I became paranoid they were going to screw it up) we got it to OT and then another before the will of St. John's finally pulled it out.

It was so exciting. Kudos all around to the whole team.

Lastly for people who don't think Simon, Clark and Owens are Big East caliber players I must say that I totally disagree with that assessment. To me these guys aren't not only really good. They play their tails off and are a credit to the University they represent and should form the nucleus for a very good team next season.

A heckuva win tonight! Kudos to Mullin (and staff) and the team. They looked to be gutting it out during the 2nd OT, but eventually pulled away for a much-needed 'W.'

A big shoutout to Clark, Simon, Ahmed and Amar. Man! A fun and thrilling one!

Over the past 25 years in games like this it seems sju somehow stands for short end of the stick.

Tonight exorcise a few of those demons.

Amazingly we didn't have anyone in foul trouble and diwn the stretch none of our guys appeared winded.

End if game rebounds were viciously snatched. Kudos to all.

Yes, General—we won! This win, in a teeth-gnashing, head-pounding, the sky-is-falling season—without Ponds and without LoVett—is one of the more gratifying, of the Mullin era! I’m very proud of our guys! The hype over this win also illustrates how sweet-it-is to be a winner in NYC. Do this for a year, do this consistently, the City is ours.
We are St. John’s.

By the way for those who had the foresight to take 43 minutes of court time for Alibegovic (in a double overtime senior night victory without Ponds) in the pool, Congratulations. I would love to borrow your Crystal Ball on Kentucky Derby day.

Great Gutty win. Kids playing a lot of minutes (Simon 50, Clark 46, Ahmed 43) & no Ponds. Justin Simon was a beast tonight that steal the last minute in double OT he grabbed out of nowhere was insane, not too mention that kick out to Clark for 3. I thought Mullin switching Clark On Jorgensen (from Rockland County) after he went on that run was a great move. Fun game & happy for the seniors.

St. John’s went 5-2 in February and losing one in OT (Seton Hall). Not bad.

First of all, congratulations to our team for winning a game 100 % of Johnny fans thought we had no chance. No Ponds, no way we stay with Butler.
Great to make up for the 70 to 45 blowout at Butler
Love to hear Wally Szerbiak's praise of playing at Carnescca Arena and team' s effort all year. That's what you get from a fellow Long Islander
Had to like our defensive rebounding at the close of the second overtime
Good move at our last timeout having Simon attempt to drive and pass back to Clark for a clutch three pointer. Have to think Mullin moves Clark to the top of the key for that shot ,especially since Butler was overplaying him in the corner all night
Not getting any playing time the last few games Alibecovig gave us a decent effort tonight, however he did pull a Yakwe foul on Goodin's three point shot.

And to think we have Simon another two years. Not bad stats tonight - 24 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals.
Haven’t left yet. Glad to eat crow especially if we pull this off.
Crow it is!!!!!!!!!!!

SWEET!!!!!!

(That was supposed to be posted at the end of the game but in the excitement I forgot to press the submit button)

A couple of things:

I thought the shot by Simon at the end of the 1sr OT was a good one. He tried to break down the defender off the dribble defender backe up and gave him a good look. Shot just didn’t fall. He did this while leaving little chance of Butler getting the rebound and getting off a shot at the end. Why not have the ball in the hands of the guy who made the shot to send the game to OT in the first place? That shot you don’t want to take too late because you are down and if you miss, you want the opportunity for your team to have a chance at the rebound.

There was a potential recruit there(actually might have been one or two more) who I am pretty sure was Cockburn (I am past the days when I knew who the recruits are and what they look like) He was leaving (like a slew of fans but despite my first post on this thread, not me) with us down by five. But stood waiting for the end. And stayed. He looked like he was thoroughly enjoying it. I was also told by someone recently (who I consider reliable) that we have a very strong shot at him.

Fans were great at the end. When the refs were reviewing the replay on the out of bounds play near the end of regulations, a guy in my section started the “St. John’s ball” chant. It was funny watching people scrambling back to their seats after the end of regulation.

Keep the three point attempts to a minimum ,only wide open shots after getting the ball from a penetrating Simon and hopefully Ponds. What a pair of guards that can get to the rim. Another game where the team shoots fifty per cent from inside the three.
Another game where the decision to play it at CA might have won the game. The games vs Butler, Creighton,Marquette and Xavier are not ready for MSG. Perhaps in the future if SJU continues to improve but the Marq and Butler wins are due to the decision to play them at CA.
