"It's no secret that we've struggled to close out games. I thought our team exhibited poise and composure down the stretch," said St. John's head coach Steve Lavin, who wore sneakers as part of Coaches Vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Weekend and improved to 33-21 when wearing sneakers on the Red Storm sidelines. "We managed to get a string of stops and converted with baskets of our own to salt away a hard-fought victory in a tough environment."

Lav really was the GOAT at coach speak lol

INo choice after losing 8 of 10 but to win remainder of BE schedule and two in the BE imo. One nice win over a ranked team does not negate that horrible streak w a lot of blown games. This Pitino factor to me is nonsense re Dance access and should be.

Don’t stumble v either the two terrible teams, win a road game v Butler and take two in BE to get a look. I would prefer the second BE game to be v a team of substance to further beef up resume.
Agree probably need two wins in BET. Really hope to avoid playing UCONN in those two.

How about the steal we got, was about to get a fadt break, then the whistle at the under 16 minute timeout. Was there a foul there, they can't just decide oh now is a good time to have it, in the middle of play.

Dingle looked pissed.
Dingle had his back to the play, he couldn't have possibly seen whether or not it was actually a foul. He was pissed because he had a layup taken away.

My wife and youngest daughter came to the Hall loss ... Despite it they both enjoyed it and my wife actually said she would love to go to another game, even in MSG.

Imagine if we won...BE tournament here we come. I am definitely making her go. (I would say come, but that ain't happening).

Disagree. Only two 19 won BE teams have been excluded since realignment and both had much lower NETs. Win out and we are probably on the bubble. Win one in BET and we are in, IMO.
Agree, win out, and win excluding DePaul and G-Town, if we play one of those 2 then we'll probably need to win twice in the Tournament.

Getting a top 5 spot is what we need, 2nd option is getting to the 8-9 spot and avoid DePaul/ G-Town.

Then again now this year the NCAA said the B.E. Tourny will now count as a home game for us, so maybe we would still need 2 wins in the tourny even if we win out, I don't know.

After 5 decades of our results in "the win and we're good, lose and we're dead" games, I'm fighting my own gut feeling.

Yes, we are trending up. Yes, I was confident even at halftime vs Creighton, telling friends "We got this as they shushed me not to jinx the team."

The stunning performance on Sunday mostly serves to put sugarplums in our heads.

In a season of "this is different this time", clinging to hope that a GOAT coach will have our guys ready, that the big red steamroller is finally in gear, and turned the corner to be a serious March team. I'm sure Rick is telling our guys, play like you did on Sunday, and no one can stop us. He'd be correct if they do, but holding my breath.

We have nothing to fear but fear itself. Well then, fear has kicked our asses for 50+ years.

It's really different this time, really different, really different.

Miss him and those days! Great guy. Glad we have Pitino now- but Lavin really did love this place. His tenure would have been different had the NCAA not been a persistent headache with qualifying guys.

Butler has lost at home this year to UCONN, Creighton, Marquette & Hall. If we think we are good enough to be in the bubble conversation, we need to become their 5th home loss.
Agree 1000%. If we can't win into the tourney, we just don't belong there. Man-up time.

For that matter I don't want to play in at Dayton. I went there by myself Mullin's last year, and could have been the single worst experience since we played horribly and showed we didn't brlong there in the first place
