@Butler, Wed., Feb. 28, 8:30p, CBSSN

my biggest takeaway from the last two games (Georgetown W aside) is we played with much more intensity on defense, and made hustle and effort plays. Finally, after all that preaching, CRP is getting through to them. Still think the Rant should have been humbler and dialed back however, it lit a fire.
The defensive intensity and minimizing the turnovers has definitely been the catalyst. The balanced scoring on offense from different players is part of it also. It makes us a much harder team to guard.

Quick Question.
Do we want a 1st round bye in the BET or do we need a Win against the lesser team ? I understand we need to win the last 2.
Just wondering who we are rooting to win and lose the next week ?
I’m in the group that wants us to have the 6th seed. Take care of business. Add that extra win to the resume and as long as it’s by a wide margin can only help us.

If we only beat DePaul on Wednesday night by, say, 18 points, it will hurt us. Spread will be like -22.

That said I’m not sure I hate the idea of playing 3 seed Creighton in a sure fire win-and-in scenario

It’s not about beating the spread. If this is truly considered a home game. Need to win by double digits.

Beating DePaul by 10 in the BET absolutely hurts our NET
my double digit comment wasn’t referring to just 10. But that is the magic number for most home wins. But beating them by your number of 18 would be no issues for our NET. I agree we need to handle them like we did before.

If we squeak by winning it would hurt us yes in NET. So we would need to handle them like everyone has including our first game. And hopefully our second game.
I refuse to believe having a potential extra win on the schedule would hurt us. DePaul or not.

Root for Villanova to win out
Disagree. I believe at this point the Thursday game of the BET is essentially an NCAA Tournament play-in game for us regardless of who we play. Villanova winning out gives makes them the 5 seed. The difference between that Thursday game being against SHU while we're both rested instead of vs Creighton when we played the night before is massive

Pick you poison, I think.

If we end at the sixth seed, then we play a meaningless game against Depaul. Even if we blow the doors off them it won't matter to the selection committee, and it only makes for tired legs the next night, or worse, an injury. Next round would be against Creighton. Win that one and we get to the NCAAT. Lose that one and we go home.

If we end at the fifth seed, we do get a chance for revenge against Seton Hall (assuming they hold only the 4th seed). If we take them down that is much better for our resume, but still probably not be enough. Winner of that likely goes against UCONN. Win that one and we are in.

So, do we want to risk injury / tired legs facing Depaul to get a shot at Creighton? Or do we want to have to go through both the Hall and UCONN? I don't know which one is better. Either way I still feel like we need two wins in the BET to get a bid. At this point I am not watching the standings and will just wait to see where things settle. The team that played on Sunday and Wednesday is a team that can beat anyone in this league. As long as that team shows up to the BET then I think there is a chance we play Friday night no matter what our seed ends up being.

Mantra has to be just win, as many as possible. But I think your picture is too pessimistic. I think one BET win and we're in, assuming we close out the regular season with 2 wins.. I can not see a BE team w/ 11 conference wins and 20 overall not making the tourney.

Tough ask for Neptune. @PC, @SHU and Creighton at home.
I hope they beat Providence.

PC ends with Georgetown and UCONN, so if they beat Nova, they're looking at 11-9 as well. They beat us in tiebreaker, because they beat Marquette in their first Big East game.

Also, Xavier's firmly in the mix, record-wise. They're 8-9, with Georgetown, Butler (away), and Marquette to finish up.

A 3 or 4 way tie almost certainly helps us, in terms of BE tiebreakers. Head to head? Not so much, except Villanova, of course.

Lots of scenarios to be determined. Teams 4th through 9th are in desperation mode. Makes for an exciting end to the regular season and a kick ass BET.

Why are so many ignoring the sweat-inducing but possible scenario where we win out reg 19-12 (11-9) and get in regardless of BET? Seems like any win in BET locks us in if we win out reg. It would take BALLS to leave out a 20 win Pitino led SJ team from field.
Wondering what would be the better scenario. Losing to the Hall as 5 seed or beating Depaul by at least 10 and losing to Creighton.

Have you watched Villanova at all this year. I see no scenario where they win at PC and at SH and then Creighton at home. 2 wins at most and that is iffy.
