Butler, Tue., Jan. 2, 8:30p, FS-1

Another real good win tonight. Terrific contributions across the board - balanced scoring, and Dunlap with a real nice night off the bench. They maintained control throughout against a solid opponent. Will now get real schedule wise - the next 8 games are brutal - at Villanova, Providence at home, @ Creighton, @ Seton Hall, Marquette, Villanova again, rematch at Xavier and the rematch with UConn. This stretch will define the season. They better get the free throw issues ironed out, or it could cost them one of these games.
We saw the Dunlop coming out party. He played great defense tonight, rebounded, on the floor after loose balls. This kid is a star in the making.

Why does Jenkins shoot jumpers though? He was 1-5 tonight from 3 with an airball and the one he made was a terrible off balance shot. He’s 24% on the year and 3 for his last 28 taking out the Sacred Heart game.

Take it to the basket, Daniss! Literally everyone else is a better jump shooter besides Zuby. Soriano is 78%, Ledlum is 36%, Taylor is 43%, Alleyne is 38%, Wilcher is 33%…even Traore is 45%. Why does Jenkins have 20+ more three pt attempts than everyone but Dingle?

Luis is 4 games into his soph season. Jenkins is a 5th year senior.
Give it up already on Daniss. Do you think for one second he is not doing exactly what Pitino wants him to do? Seriously? Do you not think Pitino reviews every shot taken with him? Daniss is the engine. Made and wrought by Pitino. This is becoming silly.

I just got back from the Arena and need to get up early tomorrow so I will not read this thread before writing this.

Overall a really great night at the Arena and we played well for the most part (Free Throw Shooting and a couple of lapses in concentration aside). The Arena was filled and quite raucous.

For me it was great to see Posh (one of my all time favorites) out there and he got a very warm reception from the crowd during the introductions and warmly displayed his appreciation back to the fans. He played well in the first half and had some signature Posh moments in the game, but wore down as the game went on and did not score at all in the second half.

Luis is an enormous talent but really is not there yet in regards to Basketball IQ. He made some poor decisions tonight, along with some remarkable plays, but for sure his immense talent is undeniable. Ledlum played very well and was able to come back after hobbling off the court early on with an injury. Alleyne is a stabilizing factor and his maturity makes us much better.

Brady Dunlap was off the charts good tonight and if we see more of that, then he will be a factor for us. Frankly we need his three point shooting ability. Our starters were just 2 for 13 from three and that will not serve us well going forward. Jenkins had a very good all around game and cut down quite a bit on some of his maddening head scratcher type decisions. He is our best guard and when he plays well it increases our chances of winning significantly. Joel is a force (a double double machine) and is a definitive difference maker for us. Dingle was just 1 for 6 from the floor but at least he swished his three free throw attempts.

One thing I missed by not reading through this thread was why Glenn Taylor Jr. was absent tonight. He is generally one of our mainstays and his absence from the court was very noticeable tonight.

Lastly it is January 2nd three days before Lou Carnesecca's 99 Birthday and our games at Carnesecca Arena are already done for the year. That makes me really sad and I hope it is not a trend in years to come.

Dunlap no longer looks like he’s thinking out there. Love it.
That, unfortunately, is how Wilcher seems to be playing. Seems to be thinking too much. Hopefully he'll click soon like Dunlap did tonight.

Shooting 5 treys a game when you are averaging 24% is silly.

The upgrade at pg in jenkins over posh is enormous. Posh is so limited it hurts his team. We saw this for 3 years.

What a game by Brady. I was not thinking you would hear matta in the huddle say, “Do not lose 44”.

What a game!!! This is easily a tournament team. Lets go get another W vs nova on Saturday!!!!!!!
Yes those posters who lamented losing posh for Daniss saw what was obvious to most. Posh is one dimensional. Some worried about Daniss bringing the ball up against Posh😎😎. Seriously delusional. Daniss was outstanding. Posh did not play once his team fell behind.

Good win in a great environment at CA.

I think the two home wins by 15 and the one road loss by 4 are a fair representation of the league (really hard to win on the road outside of Georgetown and DePaul) and where SJU stands (somewhere in the middle of the pack).

The Nova game will be another rung up the ladder - better team and a road game - to see how the team performs.

Happy to see Dunlap get some run but still mystified by the player usage decisions. Outside of Soriano, Jenkins, Ledlum there is no evident method to it. Could be who performs best in practice, game matchup decisions, dunno. Would like to see more consistency in that while still finding minutes for Dunlap and Wilcher. Not getting Taylor any run at all other than 20 seconds or whatever is bizarre.

Jenkins is productive but still not a PG, can be frustrating to watch.

No idea why Pitino went back to playing Dingle and Jenkins together, there's just no way that works.

Luis should be another level of good once he knocks the rust off.

Not a game to get too high over, but nothing bad about a good win at home, held serve and on course for bubble talk, maybe a bit more.

Like Ghostzapper, I just got back. It was a fun game considering Jenkins/Posh match-up; Chris playing on a bad leg, the imitation of Brady as Jerry West (#44), Luis' acrobatics-some incredible moves that when he gets it all together is going to be a delight, Joel being Joel, Thad Motta going bat-shit and a big win for the team. Also nice out fits on the dance team.

Coach must have seen something in Brady in practice to bring him in early and up his production. I thought he uped his commitment on defense. He caused Butler to misplay and inbound pass that Jenkins stole and slammed home a basket on the break.
