Butler, Sat., Jan. 4 , 2p, FS-1

RP isn’t bashful about letting the NYPost know when he he is displeased with a Player .
He did it forcefully last year when he threw many in the team under the bus .
“ Our team has limited lateral quickness .” Which meant Dingle , Ledlum and Soriano mostly .”

Now he’s publicly targeted Richmond for being over weight and out of shape .
Which supports the many comments already made by posters that KR isn’t the player he was last year .
It’s also clear to anyone watching that Smith and KR are not compatible players . Both needing the ball exclusively to be effective .
Forcing the 2 of them into the line up together is bad coaching 101 . It’s also , in my opinion disrupted Wilcher’s development .
Everyone forgets RP also said Luis and Ayo were faking their injuries last year. Ayo being out for the year and Luis requiring surgery. Big ego, cya, and no accountability are hallmarks of Pitino’s coaching style.

Agree SLY. To a greater extent Anderson had the same problem with Posh and Curbelo which ultimately destroyed the team. Bringing in two accomplished floor leaders like Smith and Kadary was a huge mistake. All that coach speak on how they were learning to co exist is nonsense. The old “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” apply here. If both envision playing professionally somewhere at the PG position, each may be seen as an obstacle to each others goals. II hope Pitino and staff can figure that out.
Good idea. Who would you play off the ball?

While I agree it is obvious for coach to say Kadary had the ball in his hands more last year, I think that is telling. I for one, probably in the minority, wouldn't mind Kadary and Smith having closer to a 50-50 split with the ball in their hands. Maybe putting Kadary in that more familiar role, more often could help bring out the player who was a potential all American. That player, if he appears, would have a higher ceiling than Smith, who I also like very much. It's a tough challenge trying to get the most out of both of them when they both might be better with the ball in their hands.

I think as the season goes on coaches and players will figure it out. Maybe that's blind optimism, but they seemed to figure it out last season. Let's hope for the same result as the season progresses this year.
I agree , I would have Kadary and Smith split time at PG. Never have them in the game at the same time. Keep them both fresh. However plays more or whoever is in there in crunch depends on matchups and who we’re playing on a particular night.

I'm not opposed to having them in at the same time. I'm just suggesting they split time initiating the offense.

Richmond and Smith should almost never be on the Court at the same time.
Pair Wilcher with them as the SG. If Wilcher needs a few minutes to catch his breath , let Scott or RJ be the off guard . Spot Glover in there too .
Which they often play anyway .
If that leaves us short along side Zuby , let Prey or Vince grab a few minutes upfront .
When is Dunlap due back ? And , cleared to play ?

I wouldn't sleep on Butler today. We ought to win handily, but Thad Matta can coach, I have always liked Andre Screen (I concede he's an LMF sort of player, not a ton of talent but has maximized what he has as best he can), Telfort and our friend Kolby King can both play, and if that fat load Pierre Brooks gets hot they can definitely pull an upset.

I never sleep on any team, but there are times when I feel a win (or a loss) is likely to occur. In this instance, I not only feel a win but I feel a spankin' Butler will receive.

If Pitino’s answer to how to fix Richmond is to put the ball in his hands more they should vacate his non vacated championship.

Lose one of the next 2 and things are going to get ugly around here. And justifiably so.
Agreed 100%. We have to hold serve at home and we have to start to win some of these tough road games that we don’t normally win. We have to get this to the point where we are taking it out of the hands of the committee.
