Butler, Sat., Jan. 4 , 2p, FS-1

There's no doubt about it. Legend is clearly ahead of Pitino until hopefully one day...he is not.
Wait a minute, California Chris who disappeared in the summer, had one Big East Conference win in his first season, finished in last place in the Big East and made the Dance (as a play in) with an under 500 Big East record is ahead of Pitino?? Is that part of a Twilight Zone episode? 😂😂😂

The thing I find funny is it is ok to criticize the greatest player in program history because he was a bad coach but not ok to criticize Pitino based off what he has accomplished elsewhere.

I don’t think anyone should be immune from criticism but it’s too soon to do so at this time. Last year they lost like 7 straight but then turned it around. I think the next two games will tell us a lot about this team. Xavier will be tough but lose to Nova at home and pack your dancing shoes in mothballs.

No, Brooklyn Chris whose teams improved every single year who earned his Ncaa bid in year 4 after inheriting the worst SJ's team ever is ahead of Pitino who has yet to earn a tournament bid and inherited a pre season 1st team all BE Selection and many other useful pieces he chose not to keep. Hopefully, until he's not.

More germane to this conversation is that he's ahead of Norm and Cfc for all posterity and yet he's somehow always lumped in with these bottom dwellers in some sort of bad coaches stew when a more apt comparison is with he and Hollywood.

I don't find it funny at all. I find it embarrassing and sad and fear it's justification for why our unworthy fan base deserves the jinx.

Carmine,

Who is CFC? Is that Mike Anderson?

Turnover prone? They average 11.4 per game.

Last 5 games: 10, 9, 12, 6, 9
I'm not really concerened about the number of turnovers, as much as I am the turnover margin. I'd rather have 13 turnoves, and have the other team finish with 22 or so, then to have a game where both teams are in the 8-10 range, turnover-wise.

Early in the year, we had high turnover totals, and so did our oppoenents. Then, it seemed to go down on both sides, for awhile. Last few games, though, it seems the turnover margin has been strongly in our favor. I know we were +11 in turnovers vs. Butler (meaning we turned it over 11 less times than they did). That, I like.

Yes. It stands for "coach fourth choice" referring to the botched coaching search in which 3 other coaches just using us for contract negotiations leverage turned down the job offer before the disastrous Anderson choice was made.

P.S. Credit for the nickname goes to our beloved Mia good doctor. You can tell it's not mine as my nicknames are typically much worse.

Brooklyn Chris was lucky Norm was around, Norm's winning % was .002 worse than Chris's. If not Chris' winning % would have been the worst of any SJU coach since Joey Chestnut went 4-8 in his only year, and the first year of SJU basketball, in 1908. (unless you count Kevin Clark, I don't) I know you're his fluffer but c'mon man.

You apparently can't separate the player from the Coach. No one is denigrating Chris' playing career, just stating facts.

PS I have no idea what Senor J. Chestnut's real first name was.

No one is criticizing the player. The fact that some can't separate his playing career from his coaching (if you want to call it that) career is the issue with rationally discussing his tenure.

I can separate them just as I can separate that the Rick Pitino of Providence, Kentucky, Louisville and the Knicks isn’t the Rick Pitino at ST John’s.

Thank you for the interesting stats and Johnny history.

Coaching stats are not created equal. I'm sure we can ALL agree that one stat Trumps all the others and is the only true method of evaluating coaching performance. In that we have:
Greatest player ever - 1 for 4
Norm - 0 for 6
Hollywood - 2 for 5 Wow!
Cfc - 0 for 5
Crp - 0 for 1 And counting

Ncaa tournament wins would also be a hugely important stat but I've omitted them since the only 2 coaches this millennium to have a chance at one both went 0 fer.

I can easily separate the coach from the player and appropriately evaluate him based on the facts above. He wasn't our best coach and he wasn't our worst.

Yes, I'm his fluffer. The confounding question is why ALL Johnny fans are not as he's Chris fu**in Mullin? Age could be part of the answer but it's not a complete one as I used to be a Yankee fan and never saw Babe Ruth play but know darn well enough not to disgrace myself and the program by throwing shade at him
