Butler, Sat., Jan. 4 , 2p, FS-1

I suspect our shooting can improve a bit, but more likely it is never going to be a strength. Within that context, it seems our D will keep us in games against the better teams, but the main issue is inability to date to close games v quality opponents.

With a thin margin of error re absence of perimeter shooting, it is obviously crucial to have guys make plays at crunch time. Who will be the go to guys who thrive in pressure, play smart and make game winning plays? Besides Zuby on offense, I don’t know who I would want w the ball in final minute to step up and do that.

We will obviously beat Butler at home, but in our next key road war at Xavier, which I think will be another nail biter, can we close it out and see some leadership and savvy when needed most?

St. John’s needs to make a run during upcoming soft stretch of its schedule

“There are eight games between now and Feb. 4th when Marquette visits MSG. Eight very winnable games with five at home. St John’s will be a major favorite in six of them and likely a smaller favorite in the other two as well at Georgetown and Xavier.”

The problem with the Xavier game is we are just as bad on the road against them as we are against Creighton. If my math is correct, we've only beat them at their place once in the past decade.
Agree it will be tough rm112. But if we want to be a better team than we've been since the first Lavin team we need to overcome some of those jinxes and have at least 1 or 2 significant BE road wins. I think winning at UCONN will be very tough for us; believe we need road wins against 2 of Xavier, Marquette or Villanova and also believe we are capable of doing it; then again we were also very capable of winning at Creighton both this year and last.

We won at yukon 2 years ago with a worse team and Anderson in charge.

I agree with the first 2 paragraphs but, with all due respect, nothing is "obvious" for St John's
Certainly we should win but a long history tells me nothing is ever "obvious" when it comes to St john's basketball

If we lose this game I think the odds are +150 at this time that someone starts a “Is Pitino the Guy?” Thread

Next question would be what the odds are on which user makes the thread :D
Better yet, why not get the mods to restrict posting to one thread pinned to the top, titled The Kevin Bacon Memorial “All Is Well Regardless”!!

Deivon needs to me more aggressive and more selfish. He's shooting 46% from the field and 42% from three with only 2.1 turnovers. I'm okay with the %s going down and the turnovers going up in exchange for more aggressive takes. Perhaps Mullins Revenge can have a one-on-one about aggressive takes with him?

Getting to the line less than your favorite did last year. A number you thought impossible 😁
