Butler, Sat., Jan. 4 , 2p, FS-1

Well here it is. Team has a clear deficiency that if not addressed is going to keep us from getting to tournament. If not incorporating Glover, figuring out how to get Wilcher clean looks and reducing Richmond’s role in the offense it better be something other than silly excuses. Time to see if Pitino still has his fastball.

Just pointing out that if the shot goes in we are 3-0 in BE, looking to rip Butler’s head off on Saturday, probably ranked onMonday, and this is a very different board.

The shot didn’t go in, but we are the same team we are anyway.
Problem is bunch of shots didn’t go in and Creighton is not a great team. Had us losing this game but the way we lost was very worrisome.

probably ranked on Monday? Which is why these polls are meaningless. We are currently a projected 9 seed. Now that's sad.

Butler plays tomorrow at home against Villanova then two days between games including traveling to Queens for a 2pm tip Saturday. Won’t have any the other team had more time to prep excuses in this one
That's hardly an excuse around these parts. Regardless, I do this from time to time.... We're gonna win this game by 10+.

Rick talked about how Creighton had over a week to prep for us while we only had 2 days to prep for them in his postgame presser

Maybe unpopular opinion, but this is one of the least enjoyable St John's teams that I can recall watching in my time as a fan. Sure, it's a good group of kids, and on paper one of the most talented we've had. But to me the talent assembled on this roster just doesn't seem to fit together. Obviously that is squarely on Pitino who put this roster together. And as someone on this board who has sat near the bench has pointed out, there's been visible frustration expressed among the players with their use. I'm just not getting the same joy I've got from previous groups. Hopefully this is just a misguided observation by me or hopefully this changes as the season goes on.
Definitely hear where you’re coming from. I enjoy several players that are in this group (Sim, Zubs, Scott) but there’s something funky about the RJ/Kadary pairing that I haven’t enjoyed.

Someone here had post of the year earlier this season when they said “we’d be great if RJ played a little more like Kadary and Kadary played a little more like RJ”

Still believe in this group but we really have to figure out how we fit together as a team. And it needs to happen in this next stretch before the MQ/Conn games get here next month

Pitino needs to incorporate Glover into rotation today. He has a nice shot and needs to be in rotation. His biggest issue is tries to for too much because of limited time. Once he sees he is part of the rotation can relax an will help us. Not saying he is Chris Mullin or even Ron Rowan, but clearly pisses a skill no one else on this team has besides Wilcher.
Before anointing Glover the second coming, it was Glover covering Answorth on the two threes he hit mid first half that put Creighton back in game. He completely lost him on both shots so if you want his shooting you also put up with the freshman defensive mistakes as well.

(A very talented team with some flaws that hasn’t quite put everything together yet on January 1st…)
Last years team put it together too late. All these games matter. We have no signature wins. I agree that I believe Pitino will get this team to put it together but if it’s too late like last year we’ll be looking at the same result. We can’t keep squandering these opportunities.

I said we had a great opportunity to go 8-2 starting with the Delaware game. Now we have to go 7-1 in games we will largely be favored in. I do think the game at Xavier is close to a must win.
The sky is not close to falling yet.
Agree, the schedule is favorable.

Do you really believe that a Xavier team that took UConn into overtime at YConn and lost to Marquette by 2 is a road win? If so, I love your optimism.

Pitino, due to his own timeline & ego is playing the short game and has not yet proven he's good at it here. The few high level sophs (Wilcher & Dunkap) we have are not where they should be 1.5 years in. There are many other freshman & sophs producing more elsewhere. Not every team is jr & sr...

The juniors....He's gotten Zuby better and Luis to degree...but Zuby is only guy I'd want back definitively. Everyone else a toss up. Glover, Maker & Lefty...to soon to call. Doubt Prey stays in US..Lefty too. Vince ? Doubtful.
It's become a junior NFL. Regimes are constantly under duress to win short term at expense of long term franchise health, and players now have the leverage as to who they are willing to play for.

The problem with the Xavier game is we are just as bad on the road against them as we are against Creighton. If my math is correct, we've only beat them at their place once in the past decade.

Yet another house of horrors for us.
2-9 at Xavier since they joined the BE,
with wins in 2015 and 2022
