Butler Game

Sweet. Where are you guys sitting mrmaher?

I just got back from MSG. Funny, I don't think we played that well in the second half, but Butler shot abysmally, and we had our way inside. I didn't like the late start, and we played a very flat first half.

On that note, Saturday's game is enormous. If we win, we can focus on winning our home games and make the final away game at Marquette not a do or die game. Lose, and we have to win out the schedule, including Marquette away. I'd much rather play Saturday knowing if we win we control our destiny and can see daylight.

D'angelo going nuts when Marco drains the 3...... The little things

D'Angelo was literally jumping up and down with a huge smile on his face when Lavin called Walton's number, and then proceed to follow Walton to the edge of the bench encouraging him the whole way, and continued after he checked in at the scorer's table and waiting for play to resume. It was as though it was Harrison coaching Walton, and Lavin allowed it completely. Nice job.

Looking at the box score....

12 boards by Sanchez! Butler had a real small front line tonight, but that is impressive. He needs to box out better against Nova, though, because they will attack the ball.

7 turnovers by Sampson! WTF? I guess when you are winning by 25 that stuff isn't as big of a deal.

Nice win!! Funny how people on this board are not satisfied with 20+ victory anymore... I love it!! Branch played great... Love his moxy, Sampson was best I've ever seen him also...beautiful thing when dlo and Jordan are quiet and we still dominate! One observation, with obekpa out hooper will see more time but am I the only one that rather see Marco get those minutes?

Great win fellas ! We're gonna take down nova on sat this team looks ready. I want to thank jerseyshorejohnny for the ticket, great meeting you and simplyred, we were definitely some of the loudest guys there. Always great meeting new alumni. Awesome guys. Love you St. John's !!

Thanks, SigEp. Nice meeting you too. And, now that I have met Jerseyshorejohnny, i can confirm all of the great things that have been said about him on here. Great guy!

just goes to show that numbers lie. I thought Samspon was awesome yet he had 7 turnovers and 0 assists. I also thought Sanchez was brutal on the boards repeatedly not boxing out yet he had 12 boards probably could have had 20

Sweet. Where are you guys sitting mrmaher?
not sure yet. up high because thats where we sat 4 years ago. I believe in keeping karma going

Try to contact Fratto or Barry.
JSJ is your guy.
SJU must have extra tickets down low somewhere.
Kevin said he could get us tickets but I'm very superstitious.

Lavins 1st year we did the Sly Fox bus trip to Nova and are seats were up top and we won. We plan on doing the same thing and I will be wearing the same exact clothes I've worn to the game the last several home games during the winning streak right down to the same shoes.

Now I'm just debating weather to wash the clothes because it could be a logn ride down there and back for the guys in my car. LOL

So you just dismiss numbers entirely? Sanchez had errors, but Sampson had more but you ignore one stat and say the other should have had 20 boards even though he had 11 and we killed them on the boards.

Sanchez, Karr AND Dom all have to realize they are not point guards and give the ball up. We are one of the best teams in the NATION of taking care of the ball. To the tune of 10 turnovers a game I think. Last night we had 14. The box score must have changed because I see 5 TO"s for Karr. 3 for Sanchez. 11 boards for Sanchez and 7 pts with 5 of 5 from the line.

Spoke to KB for a while at the game. He was a good luck charm. We were sludging along with a small lead in the single digits, and he said he wasn't worried because at Butler this is where we took over the game. I told him not to change his seat until it was clear we had won. Good to see him. No tickets in the 100s according to KB, at least at my charitable level. HE said Villanova always sticks SJU seats far from the court in the nosebleeds. I'm about 80% sure I'm going. WIll know shortly. Maybe JSJ is giving away courtside seats again. Just text him your seat location, and the ushers will escort you courtside to sit next to him.

Moose, you would have had 7 rebounds last night, and that's without getting out of your seat. :)

Sanchez was particularly out of control last night. It looked like he spent the summer at Sean Evan's basketball camp. I don't know what was scarier, him dribbling length of court out of control, or driving into a crowd down the lane - either way, the likelihood of losing the ball was high.

Sampson took full advantage and had his way down low - kind of like the end of the Civil War when Union troops crushed the Confederacy.

Nice to see Branch back - he looked rusty.

Harrison played a C to C minus game - early on he was launching without being patient.

Jordan for his part wasn't electric, but was very patient taking what was given to him. He is becoming more confident directing the offense. The pass that went right through Sanchez' legs was a very good entry pass. Had he thrown it one foot higher, Sanchez would still have missed but be singing Frankie Valli songs today.

Hooper nailed a very nice meaningful side step to free himself 3-pointer. I think it was SJU1512 who thought Hooper would get minutes and he did - good call. Nice to see Marco nail is trey, and a little sad to see him relegated to end of the bench fans pleading for him in a blowout situation.

Phil Greene is master of the 5 second possession long three when you are trying to extend your lead in a close game.

GG did okay.

I have to look at the boxscore to figure this out. This wasn't the same Butler team that took 6 teams to OT and has been a very tough out. Usually you say, were they that bad, or were we that good. I would say they were that bad.

It a critical W, and a convincing score, but we'd better bring the A game Saturday because last night's performance won't cut it, IMO.

Couldn't hurt to go to the pregame reception Kevin mentioned to see if there are any tickets floating around.

So you don't want an 88% FT shooter driving the lane? If by God's graces we got a set of officials that could call a game he would have 10 attempts a night.

And thanks for the compliment. If I could get 7 boards not standing up than I'm pretty much on par with Karr in terms of athleticism :)

Butler missed 41 FGAs and 11 FTs. That's a boatload of potential rebounds and they aren't exactly a big team. I'm not "dismissing numbers entirely" I don't know where you get that from but sometimes numbers don't tell the whole story. for example 20 pts are nice but if it comes on 10-30 shooting whoopty dam do, 12 bounds are nice but if on a half dozen other occasions you didn't box out your man and blew another one........

I love how we took the ball at them, and I am so much higher on Sanchez than almost anyone here, but driving into a crowd like that, albeit a smallish unathletic Butler team would be like Custer running out to confront the Indians. I guess Custer should have tried that anyway, given the outcome.

Sorry to kid you. 8-6 was so improbable, that the prospect of winning a huge game Saturday and then totally controlling our destiny is unreal. We've played a bunch of meaningful games, and this is turning out to be a very sweet season.
