Reported Trade Details

NYY acquires:Todd Frazier, David Robertson, Tommy Kahnle

CWS acquires:Blake Rutherford, Ian Clarkin, Tyler Clippard

Not a big Frazier fan, but Robertson should help, and Kahnle is having a big time season for Chicago.

Rutherford was our first round pick last year, but with 2/3 of our future outfield likely set, we can always find someone else. Clarkin was a name that I had heard good things about, though maybe not as a future ace. I think we are all glad that Clippard is probably out of here.

Deal Near?
The Bombers are making a big push to acquire White Sox closer David Robertson and third baseman Todd Frazier, as well as reliever Tommy Kahnle, according to multiple reports. This means the Yankees apparently would be willing to give up some prospects in their highly rated system. - NY POST

See my post above.

Blake Rutherford and Ian Clarkin are the two prospects, with Tyler Clippard being thrown in to offset some of the salary that we are taking on.

Talk about a team going in the wrong direction. They phoned in yet another series finale. Very disappointed.

“Send Frazier out,’’ general manager Brian Cashman said via phone Thursday when asked how the outfield picture will unfold when Hicks returns. “But Hicks isn’t doing anything yet, so that is down the road.’’

Bad contract given to Ellsbury tying Cashman's hands. Owed $21Mil. through 2021.

My Dear Knight -
Parallels between our Red Storm and
"our" Bronx Bombers:

Young talent
Heading in positive direction
"nice" problems of quality on the bench!
all the best

Nice win last night. Was afraid they were going to waste Severino's effort. Bats still an issue. If I was Cashman, I would be trying to trade Gardner for a young arm. I don't want to see Clint Frazier sent down. Holliday is really struggling. And Betances and Chapman scare me.

went to sleep in top of 2nd. just finished the replay.
bravo cc & the strike em out bullpen.
girard(i) continues his sop of bring in the bullpen early & often.
of course there is no #42 in yankee pen. yankee fans have been enjoying great relievers throughout the years & sometimes fans have thin skins over good bullpeners.
all rise hit another tape measure getty goner.
*Judge's colossal home run in the Yankees' 5-1 win over the Mariners at Safeco Field on Friday night was just a row or two from leaving the stadium entirely, something that hasn't been done since the ballpark opened in 1999. It was crushed so high it went off the grid, above and beyond official measurements.
It was the kind of shot that you have to see to believe. The kind of home run that it almost doesn't matter how far it went. For what it's worth, the Mariners estimated the distance at 440 feet, based on its similarity to a June 3 homer by Seattle catcher Mike Zunino.

I think they say AJ' ball travelled 440+ feet but I think that might be where it hit not where it would have landed had it not smashed the upper deck...what's your take

Do they give distances to where it hits or where it would land with the full arc?

from a dec 2014 article
Home run distance is measured from home plate to the place where the ball landed or where it would have landed had it’s flight not been obstructed by anything (like the stands, light towers, or even a fan’s glove). Thus, some calculations have to be made to be able to determine this distance and, while it’s fairly reliable, it can only be a simulated approximation.

There have been a few methods that have been used over the course of history to measure HR distance. In older of times, this distance was not really well recorded and old claims of really long dingers are rather questionable. For example, some people say that Josh Gibson of the old Negro League once hit a homer that travelled 668 feet in the air and then went up to 911 ft once they added the distance it ran on the ground. With no true measurements at the time, stuff like this is more of a myth than a reality.

Nowadays, there exist more reliable methods like ESPN’s Home Run Tracker (previously known as Hit Tracker). It’s a spreadsheet tool that takes a few inputs that account for many different factors that influence a ball’s flight:

ATMOSPHERIC DATA

Wind speed, temperature, altitude (above sea level) and the calculated spin that the ball will have once it leaves the bat. All these properties are used in some crazy physics calculations we thankfully need not comprehend.

OBSERVED DATA

The tracker utilizes an initial point where the ball was launched and a final point, as well as the time of flight and angle of flight which are all input into the spreadsheet.

INITIAL TRAJECTORY

The trajectory of the ball is calculated using the initial angle the ball was projected by and the speed it had right off the bat. Using more physics, the trajectory is built taking into account variables like gravity, the baseball’s spin and wind resistance.

FINAL RESULT

The tracker churns out a final result that states the true distance of the home run.

Unlike golf drives, home runs are measured to where the ball lands.

I appreciate your responses - but aren't you differing...distance is to where the ball would have landed if not obstructed ( e.g. By the stands, fence)
versus
the distance to where the balk lands whether or not obstructed???

If it hits the wall 500 ft from home, it doesn't matter if it hits high or low. True, if the wall were not there, the ball would travel further than 500 ft.

What? When do golf drives not land?

Lousy to lose - especially after coming from behind which we seem to need to do - AND in extra innings (6-5 in 10)
Would be nice for Tanaka not to give up early runs - clearly he is far from being an ace
Still a lot of good - from the pitching staff to the lineup - AJ's what 32nd? Middle relief so fine!

I think ( as w SJU) I need to temper my expectations for this year though I trust Cashman to do what he can...
To make a smart move for a starting pitcher.
Go Yanks!
