Bronx Bombers 2017 Season Thread

Pineda's career as a Yankee might have come to a premature end. He has a partial UCL tear and TJ surgery has been recommended.

What can you say? Didi struggling at the plate and in the field. Torreyas? Cooper looks like another overmatched first baseman. Chapman was horrible again. Disheartening loss. One of many still to come, I suspect.

I get the impression that the Red Six are figuring out Judge, and he is in the beginning of a struggle. If the Red Sox score only 1 run today, it may be enough.

16 innings and double header today. Girardi may have to pitch a couple of innings.

it would have been ugly, if a sac fly was the game winner after friday's fiasco.
thank you holiday. severino showed why he is an all star.
of course i dvred the game & the tape ended after 10 innings.
what a pleasure having castro back.
* cashman working over time
After pitching a combined five scoreless innings, the Yankees' Jonathan Holder and Ben Heller have been sent down. The Yankees have called up relievers Domingo German and Caleb Smith. Pitcher Bryan Mitchell is the 26th man for doubleheader. The Yankees could make more moves between games against the Red Sox because the bullpen is depleted. Adam Warren and Dellin Betances are likely unavailable. Aroldis Chapman is questionable.
* all rise. the MLB record for walks by a rookie is 107 (Ted Williams, 1939). Judge, who walked twice Saturday, is on pace for 117…
* The Yankees will start CC Sabathia on Sunday instead of Bryan Mitchell. Mitchell will likely be called up but he will be in the bullpen. Masahiro Tanaka will still start the nightcap.
* all rise - part 2.
The Yankees beat the Red Sox 4-1 in 16 innings Saturday, but Aaron Judge wasn't a factor offensively in the game. Judge finished 0-for-6 in the game, the most at-bats without a hit in his MLB career. He drew two walks and has reached base safely in 41 of his last 42 games.

Disagree. His at bay in the 8th affected the Bosox reliever in the 9th.

Nice neat and clean game 1 win. Let's go win a doubleheader! Offense did just enough, but still struggling. CC was outstanding, as was the bullpen. Let's hope the Red Sox bats continue to struggle.

Really sick of Girardi. His time in NY should come to an end. No righty reliever to bring in to pitch in the 8th. RISP again an issue. Gregorius bunt was dumb.

More trade talk-
Jon Paul Moroni

The Yankees and Athletics have had recent trade discussions, sources confirmed to MLB.com, although it remains unclear whether the Yankees have greater interest in Oakland right-hander Sonny Gray or first baseman Yonder Alonso.

Gray has become an increasingly appealing target for the Yankees over the past several days, with the news that Michael Pineda will be lost for the next calendar year due to Tommy John surgery. Gray, who isn't eligible for free agency until after the 2019 season, could help offset Pineda's absence next season as well.
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reported Monday that a top-level Athletics scout recently watched the Yankees' Class A Charleston affiliate. That's a strong indication of the Yankees' interest in players on Oakland's Major League roster.
The Yankees' motivation to speak with the A's about Alonso is clear: Their first basemen have combined for a .671 OPS this season, second worst in the Major Leagues entering Monday.
Alonso, 30, is one of the most likely players in professional baseball to be dealt before the July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline. He's having a career year (.924 OPS, 21 home runs); he will be a free agent after the season is over; and A's executive vice president Billy Beane acknowledged over the weekend that the team needs a full rebuild.
Eight players have started at first base for the Yankees in 2017, including four within the last two weeks. The team's Opening Day first baseman, Greg Bird, requires ankle surgery that will almost certainly end his season.
The Yankees' willingness to make a substantial trade has increased in recent days, sources said. The team is 4-9 in July and has scored the second-fewest runs in the American League this month. Their lead over the Twins for the second American League Wild Card has dwindled to half a game.
