Bronx Bombers 2017 Season Thread

Fowler ruptured right patella tendon running into a wall in his first ML inning, immediate surgery and out for the rest of the year. Just brutal. Gets ML pay though while out.

Need to call an outfielder up to replace him. Oh, wait we can't. Placed Austin on the DL and send Andujar back down (after going 3-4 with four RBIs in his ML debut) for Fowler, DFA Mason so we could put Carter (who we DFA last week) back on the 40 Man and then placed on the ML 25 Man to give them a first basemen (if you want to call him that as I have seen little evidence that he has much of a glove there). So by DFA Mason, he is in limbo and might get picked up by another team (and all he has done fine ever time they call him up). With Fowler now going to the 60 Day DL which leaves an open spot on the 40 man and we might see Clint Frazier added to it and then called up to replace Fowler. Andujar can return immediately as he doesn't have to wait the required 10 days after being sent down since he would be replacing an injured player. Or they can add or maybe they jus and I guess is play well whenever called up). Mark Payton or Jake Cave would be other options who would have to be added to the 40 man.

Great update!
+1

Don't think it automatically has to be an outfielder. Gardner, Ellsbury, and Judge are pretty set out there, and they have Refsnyder in a pinch, if they need him. It does need to be a position player though. In fact, I'd like to see two bench players come up, and a pitcher get cut, so that we don't have to have 10 pitching changes ever night.

Also, if he's going to play both Romine and Sanchez every night, I'd prefer Sanchez at first (even if that's giving up a little bit of defense) and Romine catching. Romine just seems to have a much better working relationship with this pitching staff, then Sanchez does (I am by no means advocating for the removal of Sanchez from the lineup - that would just be plain ridiculous).

I agree that it doesn't have to be an outfielder and I to would like to see them drop a pitcher and bring up two position players. The only non-pitcher they have in the minors that is not hurt and currently on the 40 man roster is Jorge Mateo. And while they have been moving him around between SS, 2B and CF, he has been struggling since the midway point of last year in High A (athough as part of the domino effect of Torres getting hurt and Taylor being adding to the Yankees, he was moved up to AA Trenton last week), I don't think he is the one. The easy 40 man move is placing Fowler on the 60 day DL as I stated, but to bring up two position players, someone needs to be dropped from the 40 man.

I also agree that I like Romine and Sanchez at first due to Romine's rapport with the pitchers. Based on what is happening with the position, it might not be a bad idea to think about him as the long term solution. It would keep his bat in the lineup more and there would be less wear and tear on his body.

I like carrying 3 catchers for the flexibility it gives the manager. Of course, they need to be able to play 1b and/or be a viable DH.

Kyle Higgy (can't come close to spelling his last name) is on the DL in the minors so they would have to first add a catcher to the 40 man roster. The catchers they have available though are journeyman minor leaguers.

Refsnder cost them 2 runs last night in the outfield. He seems to have faded.

He is literally just taking up space as he is hitting well below the Mendoza line. If he isn't going to hit, he is really no value is not a good love man wherever they put him.

Faded would mean he was good at some point. No idea why they would DFA Mason and keep Ref around. He's useless. Let him go back a player who can play a bunch of positions badly and not hit somewhere else.

Tonight's Probables-
Pineda (7-4, 4.12) vs. McCullers (7-1, 2.53)

No Keuchel this series as he is in the DL. With our luck lately, he'll come off the DL in time to pitch against us and we'll lose someone else to the DL

Headley should have caught that throw from Wade. Error on Wade bad official scorer call.

Probable Pitchers-Saturday Night
Montgomery (6-4, 3.53) vs. Martes (2-0, 5.51)

Another horrible loss. This should have been a win. Betances has got to find the plate!!!! And Chapman seems to throw 8 pitches to every hitter. Just brutal. And BTW, the Yanks have had the 2nd most runners thrown out on the based on MLB. One run losses mounting.

Sunday's Probables-
Severino (5-3, 3.15) vs. Fiers (5-3, 3.98)

I agree. Bullpen is killing us.

Yes, also Betances time to plate has to improve if it can it was ridiculous how easy they stole bases on him Going forward when he pitches think teams will exploit this He definitely lost this game for the team Joe should have taken him out a few batters before

Yanks needs the starters to go further into the game. Pen getting too much use.

And they phoned in this game so far after the awful ending last night. Typical. They've done this many times over the past few years. Team going in the wrong direction just as the Red Sox have gotten hit. Bad timing.

Judge named AL Player, Rookie of the Month for June
Earlier today, RF Aaron Judge was named AL Player of the Month and Rookie of the Month for June, batting .324 with 30 runs scored, five doubles, 10 home runs, 25 RBI and 30 walks in 28 games. This is his first career AL Player of the Month Award and his third straight AL Rookie of the Month honor, having also won the award in April and May.

Judge is the first Yankee ever to win three consecutive monthly awards and the first AL player to win three Rookie of the Month Awards in a row since Mike Trout won four straight in 2012 (May-August). He is the 10th player all-time (in either league) and second Yankee (Gary Sánchez - August 2016) to win both awards in the same calendar month.
