BRACKETOLOGY, RPI, SOS

Southern Miss getting beat by Middle Tennesee by 13 with 15 minutes to go in the second half.

St Joseph's won handily by 11 at La Salle.

Clemson continues to slide losing at home to Virginia today

Penn state loses to Iowa

Oklahoma State, who I guess are playing themselves out of the tournament with their recent play, are in a dog fight mid second half against Oklahoma

West Virginia has a big game against Texas tonight. Hopefully the Horns win that one.

Florida State, for some reason, is in the tournament according to Joe Lunardi. He has them in barely, in the play in game. Anyways, they play @ wake forest tonight.

Tennesee and Missouri (two bubble teams) square off tonight, so someone's gonna lose.

Ever since Marillac professed his love for the kid on Southern Miss they have hit the skids.
Well done mush!

The kid I like is on UAB. They beat South. Miss by 24 a few days ago.
The kid is by no means is a superstar at all, but he's ferocious and a junkyard dog type of guy at 6'4. I saw him nearly rip some big guy's face off tearing an offensive rebound from him. I wish we had that at SJU.

Ah my bad.

If Marquette holds off Xavier(up 10 at halftime) and we take care of business against Georgetown, we could realistically finish anywhere from 3rd to 7th. We need to take care of business and get the four wins there. The rest of the season and the Big East tournament is going to be a war.

If one of our wins was on road against nova, three more regular season losses wouldn't eliminate us.

I'd take that wager.

not trying to argue, just trying to understand the rationale. A 21 win team, even with a .500 record inside conference, out of the 4th ranked conference (RPI) should have a good chance to get a bid.

21 wins assuming worst case scenario 3-3 down the stretch, and two big east tournament wins.

The bubble isn't strong, as will usually be the case with the expansion.

That would give us 13 losses.
Just can't see an invite @ 21-13.

It would depend on who the wins are against. If we beat Nova, go 3-3 and get to the finals of the tourney then we are a lock in my opinion.

Need to go 4-2 and win at least one in the conference tournament. I think a win over Villanova could help us avoid a play in game.

Realistically if we went 3-3 with a road win over Nova and then beat 2 good teams, probably one of Nova and Creighton, in the Big East Tournament and were playing Saturday night we absolutely would be a lock.

In that scenario we would be an absolute lock. I would much rather it not come to that, though. I would be very disappointed if we lost two or three more regular season games. We can really do ourselves a big favor by beating two teams immediately in front of us in both the conference and RPI standings. Both are home games too. 21 is the magic # in my mind no matter how we get there.

We have a lot of things working in our favor. For starters, we are on a 7-1 run, and the NCAA always looks at how teams come on at the end of the year. We also are a very interesting and appealing team with the sheer # of highly ranked recruits coming of age. Our ceiling is much higher than say a St. Joe's or BYU, and the committee will certainly consider that. Every committee member wants the team they fought for to make it to the Sweet 16 or better. Also, we played so many of the nations best teams very close and lost a ton of close games. Reason to the committee? Our stud FRESHMAN PG, Rysheed Jordan, didn't emerge until late January and we start two sophs alongside him.

Marquette is starting to scare the crap out of me. They are going to muddle everything up.

If we get anywhere from a 3-6 seed in the tournament, who would you guys want us to play?

I hope we play a quarterfinal against providence, with winner going to play Creighton. Thats what I would like to see. Providence being undermanned, I could see them running out of gas by the time the big east tournament comes, and us beating them much like we did at the dunk.

They look nothing like the team we beat handily at the Garden.

You mean looking like the team that was picked to finish atop the Big East.
Yes as I've been saying all along (My Marillac moment)

St John's, Georgetown, Marquette, Xavier and Providence are all really good teams. The season starts tomorrow. Time to earn our stripes.

Wake Forest blowing the doors off of Florida State, 24-8.

Syracuse is tied with NC STATE at the dome 44-44 at the U8.

NC State up 50-45 with 6 minutes left. Joe Lunardi doesn't have the wolf pack on the bubble but says a win would launch them into the field for now.

SJU's RPI can improve by leaps and bounds from now through Selection Sunday with the remaining schedule we have:

@ Nova and @ Marquette
Home GTown Home Xavier

Plus the Big East Tournament - if we lose only the Nova game and have a good showing in the Big East Tournament we can get the RPI into the 30s in a month.

There is still a lot of season left for us and this team will be the masters of their own destiny.

There is definitely opportunity, but I am a little disappointed that we are only 57 after the last two wins. I thought we'd be right inside 50. The Depaul loss on the road and the Providence loss at home were two huge missed opportunities that caused a 10-15 spot drop. It gets harder to move up every game.

The good news:
We have home games against two teams immediately ahead of us in both the RPI and on the tournament bubble
52-58 is pretty much a statistical tie in the RPI, so a win over Gtown should at least get us to #52 and probably higher with other losses
All the A-10 schools ahead of us all play two against each other (#37 GW, #40 Richmond, #41 St. Joe's, #53 Dayton) and have the A-10 tournament
#42 Oklahoma St. plays @ #49 Baylor tomorrow. Oklahoma state has lost six in a row, 7/8, and is playing without Smart...winner of SJU/Gtown will pass the loser
#33 Memphis and #38 SMU can't both survive if we keep winning...they both only have four top 100 wins...they play each other last game of the season, they both will lose to Louisville. One of those teams will lose 3-4 games and fail to make the tournament. That conference makes me sick...the top five start off with an nearly automatic ten wins.

Jerry Palm Reader from CBS Sports has us at 57 RPI today. We need to root for Wagner to beat Bryant today, Wisconsin to beat Michigan and Monmouth to beat Marist.

@ESPNLunardi says St. John's needs to get to 8-6 Big East to be in the "right side of the bubble."They are 6-6 entering today's G'town game

If we beat Georgetown we are heading in the right direction, butler has no answer for obekpa and Sampson, plus they are a bad road team. If we win tonight, I feel good about our chances Tuesday night.

It'd be nice if Delaware lost too (sorry Jack). They've played a bunch of A-10 teams and a couple other teams that have played guys in front of us. Their #62 RPI makes them a very quality win.

True, but at butler Tuesday night, would've been a big trap game, just ask Creighton,
