Of course . If memory serves me , Pitino has always valued speed and Quickness over height . Soriano has been a luxury for him this season .

But , he’s made Joel into a potential NBA player by getting him into Pro shape .

Pitino will find a more than suitable BE caliber big man somewhere . No doubts there
He has…which is why it’s strange to see two slow 6’3 guards that can’t guard anyone not from Utah.

I think he learns a ton of lessons from this group and won’t make the same mistakes again. We’ll have a small, lightning-quick ball-handler that can play defense somewhere on the roster next year. And we’ll have less wings and more front court depth.

Obviously coaching is better.
But this team reminds me of Mahoney teams. Talent but mismatched pieces and lacking a point guard.

Mahoney teams are a little before my time. I do remember Turner being awful as a kid and how that team was a Shaheen Holloway from being unstoppable. Very frustrating back then and here we are again lol.

Not before mine. I remember him as an ABA player playing for Louigi C on the Nets. When they beat the Kentucky Colonols with Gilmore, Issel and Dampier and the Virginia Squires with Erving, Gervin and Chones only to lose in the final I was way into it.

Soriano and Taylor play with discipline. If everyone else played like them we would be in a much better position. I’d like to see
Alleyne-Taylor-Luis-Ledlum-Soriano in January. Slow down the pace for this year only. Bring in Jenkins for energy.
Alleyne has played point a few times this year. It was a disaster. He has never been a pg. There is currently no one on roster besides Jenkins to take that role. Cruz may help but he has been injured.

Can Ponds get a Portal Waiver ? Shamorie had to do double duty as a PG and SG .

But , he was more than up to it and became one of the more exciting Players of the last 20 years .

Pitino would have loved Ponds in his backcourt .

Taylor , despite not being a guard has some PG tendencies in his game . He was bringing the ball upcourt against BC because he can handle . He’s also a incredible passer and a unselfish one . Of course , we need him at SF but , he has some PG Qualities in him . Not all but , some .

Disaster? Not really. He has a very poor handle but he doesn’t make mistakes or try to do too much and he passes the ball off as soon as he gets up court.

When Jenkins is not in the game, everyone touches the ball and they can at least learn to begin to figure things out. The obvious downside is they don’t have an identity without him yet. Luis obviously helps.

When Jenkins is in the game, he dictates everything early. The ball is going where he decides it’s going. There is no prodding, no extra passes, no motion….

The one message from Pitino he seems to get above all else is to “do everything with pace.” I’m not sure this roster is built for that kind of style. If you have Peyton Siva and Russ Smith you want to play with pace, clearly.

But what about when your best player is a 260 lb flat-footed center and your guards are at a quickness deficit against nearly every high major opponent? Then add in a TE playing PF.

I like everything about Taylor. He’s very similar to Jenkins in terms of skills — albeit more rough around the edges — but he plays within those skills.

This team is built in a way it can win if they get a little from Taylor, a little from Jenkins, a lot from Soriano, and somewhere in the middle from Luis and Alleyne.

And when we get a little or more than a little from Dingle, I think we can play with most anyone. I have to think Rick P is going to figure out a way to get more from the defense even if it is not (this year) going to be anywhere near the level he wants.

The problem with the modern-day players currently is they watch to many games during the NBA season where there is minimal defense. When the playoffs start the games change and baskets are more difficult! The sense of urgency is heightened, and the defensive schemes change.! Rick Pitino is trying to get the modern-day player into buying into playing defense! every night! Hopefully the current roster will buy into what he is teaching!

If you are a college basketball player and get caught up in the NBA regular season mentality, then you are just flat out dumb. Because the ratio is not even comparable. If you play in a P5 conference, an 18-20 game stretch is going to decide your season. That is nothing like the NBAs 82 game slog.

All players should understand that and bring intensity to every game

You know Jack i really appreciate this post. Players don't play well every game and sometimes it appears they aren't playing hard but i would virtually guarantee that each and every game is the biggest event of their day or week and they anticipate the next one as soon as the previous one ends. They are all playing for their basketball lives, and although NIL money, academics, and family responsibilities can be distractions i really believe most every kid tries as hard as he can every game. I don't think we give them enough credit for all the balls they have in the air besides bball.

He’s a + athlete with great size for the position. His potential is built into his ranking. I posted this summer that there was a noticeable difference between him and Caddeau while working out together. Caddeau has a tight, low handle.

Wilcher was very loose with it and too much space in pick and roll. I’d like to see him teamed up with another combo…which is why I see Glover at the 3.

Wilcher is by far our most physically talented defender but he’s clueless on positioning, switching, etc. and he’s not to a point where he can just react.

It’s disappointing 9 games in compared to other freshmen guards in the conference and others we’ve had here recently like Ponds and Lovett.
I’d add posh to your last statement as well. Love him or hate him, he was an immediate contributor and his freshman season was probably his best.

Pitino would have kicked ponds off the team. Ponds had a ton of talent but was a lazy defender with bad habits.

Lazy huh ? Ponds had to play both , PG and SG at the same time in the same game . He was the only player on that team who opponents feared as he could go for 40 plus points as he did against Duke on any given night .
He had to deliver the ball to guys like Simon and Clark who could barely throw the ball in the ocean .

Actually , he was a better defender than you give him. credit for .He stole the ball frequently in the back court . He stripped the ball a lot from the big guys.

Lazy player ? The best player we have had since the Hatten years . Bar none .
