Big East Tournament

really banking on a win Thursday...have tickets for Friday night. In order to not go ape shit during the PC game im going to put $200 on the Friars. If we lose I have free tickets to see the big east semi-finals. if we win I ended up paying double but don't care at all bc our guys will be playing!

The year the Jets played the Dolphins in the AFC championship game and a shot at the superbowl, we did the opposite - bet the Jets to win after someone offered Superbowl tix to my brother in law. HE came up with this scheme that we bet like $400 on the game, and if the Jets won we'd go to the Superbowl relatively cheaply. It was working out just fine as the Jets drove to the Miami 5 yard line very late in the game, where a touchdown meant a win. Richard Todd then threw an interception into the end zone. Game over. Superbowl dream gone. $400 down the drain.

I like your thinking. We lose and you win, we win and you don't care about losing.

exactly right. that was a very ballsy move by you guys. wish I had that kind of confidence haha but I'm an inherently pessimistic fan

Betting on Richard todd was like burning money:

The A.J. Duhe game. My Redskins won their first Super Bowl a week later versus the Dolphins' "Killer B's" defense.

Somewhat off topic, but has anyone else noticed the tons of empty seats at the ACC & Big 10 Tournaments for the early round games? Don't get me wrong, I am not saying the Garden will be packed tonight but I don't remember those tournaments being that empty in years past, even for the opening games.

The thing about the conference tourneys is that every school has a large block of tickets that are sold to that school's top boosters/alum. Those boosters/alum are rarely keen enough fans to sit through 10 hours of hoops per day and 24 hours of basketball or more in 4 days. There were always lots of empty seats before the semis.

Wow, Villanova had a close one on the first game, 84-49.

Kris Dunn may be best PG in country. Carried PC on his back tonight but they came up short. Nova wins by two. Kudos to Friars!

The foul call on Providence in the last seconds was very poor. The refs set a standard of hard nosed , physical play all game and, Arch really wasn't fouled. THE CALL basically gave the game to Villanova.

Shame, the Friars comeback deserved, at least, overtime.

Agree on Dunn, just an outstanding player with no apparent weakness in his game. Bad job by Providence on the last possession; Nova was disorganized after the free throws and Dunn never should have been taking the ball out; at least after he passed in to Derosiers (sp.?) he should have gotten the ball immediately back streaking upcourt. But a terrific game by Providence and they deserved better. Nova got the benefit of the last (bad) call, part of the game, but again Nova did not impress me with the pressure of the bright lights. Two dumb, one atrociously stupid, fouls on Hilliard down the stretch trying to make the GREAT play rather than staying solid knowing time and score and a couple or three good shots by Archidiacono down the stretch, but all misses. The 3 by Hart really saved them IMO. Very interested to see how Nova plays tonight because I believe Xavier will come as ready to play as Providence was.

I thought the same thing as you observed. Dunn should have been the last option . Still DeRossiers could have thrown the ball to Dunn, who was a bullet getting to midcourt after inbounding.

No timeouts, correct?

Wasn't even close to being a foul...Bentil was so obvious in his attempt to avoid a foul...

It's funny. I've spoken to referess over the years, mostly HS level, and they will all give you different philosophies on how they ref in game situations. One told me he'd never call three secends unless it was impacting play - I didn't quite agree with him there.

But here's the question, if you are a ref. Do you call the play differently if

1) The team with the ball is up by 1 point
2) The team with the ball is up by two points
3) Tie game
4) The team with the ball is down 1 point
5) The team with the ball is down 2 points

As much as I think many refs would say a foul is a foul is a foul and you call them all the same, from my view point, I'd be extremely careful calling a foul in situations 1,2,3.

I'm not saying that if someone gets hammered you don't call a foul in all of the above - you do. I mean based on incidental contact. (I agree here that the foul call was made for non existent contact.

What do you guys think?

Agree. Actually Arch... bumped Bentil. I couldn't stop thinking if that was Harrison there would be a no call. Also brought back the memory of Penn bumping Barkley with a no call at Knoxville.
