Big East Tournament

Gonna be tough for the Marquette/Seton Hall winner. Winner plays first the next day against Nova. That's rough

Are are all gonna need to pray the winner upsets nova

Nah SJU can win Friday night

Sure, we can win. But it's not likely.
We'd all be better off if someone knocks off Nova. And by "we", I mean the rest of the Big East.

We'd be better off sure, but I personally want another shot at nova at MSG with our full team. I have a good feeling if that happens

Good call on your part. Nova is the only team that at full strength we'd still have a hard time beating. The others don't scare me at MSG - any team could beat us for certain, but I think we are a good bet to beat anyone else so long as we are reasonably healthy.

really banking on a win Thursday...have tickets for Friday night. In order to not go ape shit during the PC game im going to put $200 on the Friars. If we lose I have free tickets to see the big east semi-finals. if we win I ended up paying double but don't care at all bc our guys will be playing!

I don't bet but if I did this is exactly what I'd do.

The year the Jets played the Dolphins in the AFC championship game and a shot at the superbowl, we did the opposite - bet the Jets to win after someone offered Superbowl tix to my brother in law. HE came up with this scheme that we bet like $400 on the game, and if the Jets won we'd go to the Superbowl relatively cheaply. It was working out just fine as the Jets drove to the Miami 5 yard line very late in the game, where a touchdown meant a win. Richard Todd then threw an interception into the end zone. Game over. Superbowl dream gone. $400 down the drain.

I like your thinking. We lose and you win, we win and you don't care about losing.

some great pix and video @STJohnsBBall today #BIGEASTtourney photo shoot:

nice one Harrison to PGIV:

Sirvoo- Johnnies laying 2? Johnnies win by 1 you are the happiest guy around.

that's what im guessing but the only line I've seen is what paultz posted earlier. I made that mistake against Xavier not taking the points in a 1.5 point spread and we won by 1. so this time cc I will definitely heed that advice

exactly right. that was a very ballsy move by you guys. wish I had that kind of confidence haha but I'm an inherently pessimistic fan

It's a nice relief to go in to a Big East Tournament with no pressure to win a game or two to get in to the NCAAs.

I want to preface this by saying that I would love to win the Big East tournament.

BUT

My main concern going in to this week was winning enough games just to get out of the 8/9 game in the NCAAs. Thinking further, if we lose to Providence, is it possible we drop to a 10? If we drop to a 10, isn't that the exact same result as getting bumped to a 7 seed? And if we lose on Thursday, doesn't that give our banged up guys a full week to rest up?

I'm sure when it's a two point game with 2:00 minutes left on Thursday I'll be gnawing my fingernails off but for now I can't remember going in to a Big East tournament with less urgency than I do with this one.

I like this strategy a lot. All about self-perseverance

March 10, 2015 NEW YORK - The BIG EAST today announced plans for a week of engaging, fan-friendly events across New York City - culminating in the crowning of the Men's Basketball Tournament champion on Saturday, March 14. The weeklong plans are a celebration of the BIG EAST's unprecedented connection to New York City, where the tournament will be held for the 33rd consecutive year at Madison Square Garden - the longest such relationship in college hoops history.
The expanded roster of Tournament-related events will serve to magnify the BIG EAST's presence in the New York City market. Events will take place all throughout Tournament week, and include pep rallies, community service projects, and learning opportunities for area students.

"The BIG EAST is proud of our long-standing ties to New York City and Madison Square Garden," said BIG EAST Commissioner Val Ackerman. "We look forward to building on the excitement of our men's basketball tournament this week through a slate of additional events to engage fans and promote the academic and service values of our schools."

The pinnacle of the week will be the BIG EAST Men's Basketball Tournament, presented by New York Life. The tournament will be played at the World's Most Famous Arena, Madison Square Garden on Wednesday, March 11 through Saturday, March 14. The first two games will be played Wednesday, March 11, at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Thursday delivers a huge day of BIG EAST basketball, with four games beginning at noon. The semifinals are Friday night March 13th at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. The BIG EAST champion will be crowned Saturday night with the championship game starting at 8 p.m. All games will be broadcast live on FOX Sports 1 and carried live on Westwood One Radio.

The schedule of events, in order of their date, include:

• On Tuesday, March 10, FOX Sports 1 will kick off its coverage of the tournament with a BIG EAST Basketball Party and the "FOX Sports Tournament Kickoff" outside the News Corp building from 8 a.m. -4 p.m., at the corner of West 48th Street and 6th Avenue. There will be brand ambassadors, two basketball hoops, a step-and-repeat area for people to take photos, a spin-to-win wheel with prizes, and giveaway items for fans who participate.

• The inaugural BIG EAST SERVES DAY will be held on Wednesday, March 11. BIG EAST staff and partners, along with member school participants, will go to three Boys & Girls Clubs in New York City, two in the Bronx and another on the lower east side of Manhattan. The volunteers will read to the children in attendance and facilitate a question and answer session, allowing youth to ask questions to the students and student-athletes. In addition, the member schools will declare March 11, 2015 as "BIG EAST SERVES Day" on campus and encourage other students and alumni to participate in service that day, or commit to it for a future date.

• On Wednesday, March 11, the Empire State Building will light up in the BIG EAST colors (red, blue and white) to mark the start of the tournament.

• Madison Square Garden will display the colors of all ten member schools throughout the week, and on the evening of Saturday, March 14, will light with the BIG EAST champion's colors.

• On Thursday, March 12, from 1:00p.m. to 2:00p.m. the conference will partner with the 34th Street Partnership to conduct a pep rally at One Penn Plaza to celebrate the tournament and spread excitement throughout Midtown Manhattan. Pep bands, mascots, and cheerleaders from the BIG EAST schools will perform for free for the public.

• On Friday, March 13, the Conference, in partnership with the BIG EAST Career Consortium, will be sponsoring the BIG EAST Career Networking Event at The Club Bar & Grill in Madison Square Garden from 9 a.m. to Noon. At the breakfast portion of the event, Commissioner Ackerman will give an opening address, kicking off a day of networking activities geared toward current students and recent alumnus from the ten BIG EAST Conference schools, including Butler, Creighton, DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, St. John's, Seton Hall, Villanova and Xavier.

• On Friday, March 13, Commissioner Ackerman will host the 2nd annual BIG EAST Basketball Roundtable, bringing together a diverse group of sports professionals to discuss current topics in college basketball during the Conference Tournament in New York City. The opening panel will feature Jack DeGioia (President, Georgetown) and Rev. Michael Graham (President, Xavier). Other participants are expected to include NBA executives, college sports leaders and sports business executives.

• The inaugural "BIG EAST 3X3 Battle," an open 3-on-3 basketball competition that allowed teams of contenders to compete for the right to play on center court at Madison Square Garden just prior to the BIG EAST Men's Basketball Tournament championship game, will showcase the best New York City streetballers on Saturday, March 14. The event tipped off on Saturday, March 7, with 130 participants on 32 teams competing in either the Adult Elite or Adult Recreational divisions. The winning team in the Adult Elite division is eligible to advance to the USA Basketball 3x3 National Tournament and secure a berth to the FIBA 3x3 World Tour.

BIG EAST To Begin Tournament Week With A Day Dedicated To Service
Wednesday, March 11 declared as BIG EAST SERVES Day in New York City

March 9, 2015 NEW YORK - As anticipation for the BIG EAST's Men's Basketball Tournament builds in New York City, the Conference today announced that Wednesday, March 11 will be "BIG EAST SERVES Day," which will celebrate a commitment to service and form a new alliance with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
The dedication to service is a core value of BIG EAST member schools, each of which encourages a wide range of community outreach activities throughout the academic year. On Wednesday, March 11 - the first day of tournament play - the Conference will coordinate a collaborative service effort among the schools, supporting projects in New York City and on individual campuses under the BIG EAST SERVES umbrella.

Launched in December 2014, "BIG EAST SERVES" is a community platform that aligns the activities of the Conference with the academic and service missions of its schools and encourages student-athletes, faculty, administrators and supporters to make a positive difference in their communities.

To mark "BIG EAST SERVES Day" in New York City, home of the BIG EAST Men's Basketball Tournament, conference staff, students, student-athletes, and partners will visit three Boys & Girls Clubs in the five boroughs of New York City: Kips Bay, Madison Square in the Bronx, and The Educational Alliance on the lower east side of Manhattan. The volunteers will read to the children in attendance and facilitate a question and answer session, allowing youth to ask questions to the students and student-athletes. In addition to visiting the Clubs, the Conference will provide tournament tickets for Clubs members to attend a live basketball game at Madison Square Garden, an opportunity that many kids don't get the chance to have.

"BIG EAST member schools have long valued the commitment to service, and we are proud to incorporate this value into the programming around our Men's Basketball Tournament," said BIG EAST Commissioner Val Ackerman. "We are thrilled to partner with The Boys & Girls Clubs of America, an organization that shares a similar set of values. We hope the creation of an annual, dedicated day of service will inspire everyone associated with our league to reflect on what really matters and to give back to their communities in whatever way they choose."

The New York project will mark the start of a strategic partnership between the BIG EAST and Boys & Girls Clubs of America and serve as a pilot program between the two organizations to encourage and inspire Club members to attend post-secondary schools.

"Young people engaging with student-athletes from the BIG EAST provides mentorship opportunities, leadership pathways, and awareness to post-secondary education," said Frank Sanchez, National Vice President, Sports, Entertainment & Alumni Development at Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

Member schools will also participate in "BIG EAST SERVES Day" in their local markets through service-oriented projects on or around their campuses, the execution of which will be at the discretion of each school. As an incentive to participation, the Conference will offer students who complete a project a digital "iServe" badge, which will allow participants to share their experience on social media channels and encourage their family and friends to join them in additional service initiatives.

"BIG EAST SERVES Day" complements a series of events the Conference is hosting this year in conjunction with its Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments, including two panel discussions with sports industry leaders, with open attendance offered to all students, and the first-ever Conference-sponsored Career Networking Event on Friday, March 13 at Madison Square Garden.

Additional "BIG EAST SERVES" initiatives include a partnership with the White House for the "It's On Us" campaign, a national movement that seeks to end sexual assault on college campuses; and the "#BEgood" campaign, a marketing platform developed in partnership with Conference presenting sponsor New York Life, which inspires student-athletes, fans and students to "do good" in the community.
