Try not being such homers on this site, this game was there for them to win, I don't think Pittsburgh played very well at all. But it is hard to win a high major DI game when you can't shoot from the 3-point line. They are out scored every game by 18 points from the 3-point line. Every body loves Harrison but he is wild with his shot selection, he forces a lot of shots. Pointer is a tremendous athlete but has to develop a mid-range to 3-point shot. I think he has the potential to be a Malik Sealy type player. Phil Greene is a terrible point guard and it will be a major upgrade when Branch becomes eligible. Besides not being a high DI talent, he is not very bright. At the end of the half with 39 seconds left you need to get one good shot and Dunlap put up one finger to get a good shot sot what shot do they get Greene spinning around taking a tough jumper that was not even close. It starts a fast break fro Pittsburgh. He can not take that shot in that situation. The ball has to go to Harrison or Harkless. GG Achiuwa is just horrendous, he should be playing at a school like Central Connecticut State, or a similar school. The guy is in great shape with some good shoulders and arms on him but the announcers are dead wrond when they said he is a good ahlete, he actually is not a very good athlete, his foot work is so bad that he messes himself up and does not know where he is. On the bright side he is a pretty good free throw shooter. I really like Amir Garrett but if Garrett is a good baseball player he should concentrate on it full time because it is very hard to make the majors in baseball and you need to really just concentrate on that sport. What can you say about Harkless, he has it all. Tremendous athlete, very good ball handler for his size and a nice passer. If he can improve his range forget about it. I would love to see him come back but very players would come back if they are considered a first round pick. Look at Iman Shumpert, he left early but was picked in the first round and is having a nice year. Could he have been picked higher? Who knows. The only thing SJU has going for them is this years draft may be loaded if guys like Perry Jones, Harrison Barnes and Jared Sullinger go pro as expected.
Where shall I dissect your post? First of all, the use of paragraphs are your best friend.... Secondly, are you sure we've been outscored by 18 points per game by the opposition from the 3-point line or was that just some jive you made up to strengthen your argument? I think it's the latter. We made 4.1 per game, while the opposition made 7.3 per outing. I'm not a mathematician, but that is only a 9-point differential.
Harrison has been wild on occasions, but have you ever thought the reason he may have been a bit wild (he has been in control on many occasions) because he's trying to make things happen. Youthfulness and lack of consistent scoring threats probably forced his hand a bit.
Pointer is a solid defender; a heckuva athlete; and anticipates fairly well. But, not only does he have to work on his outside shot.... He has to work on his handle. He's very limited when it comes to dribbling. Tom basically said it correctly.... He isn't coordinated. I think he's still a solid athlete, but he looks uncoordinated while attempting to dribble. Hopefully, he does become a Malik Sealy-type. But, I see more Willie Glass than I do Sealy.
Greene isn't a terrible point guard. He's not a good one, but not terrible either. He was also forced to play a ton of minutes at that position, whereas he's more suited to being a combo.
Garrett is supposedly a pretty decent baseball prospect. But, he also has shown he can play a bit of hoops, as well. So, why should he solely concentrate on baseball? Maybe, he could also have an opportunity to play professional basketball. He's only a freshmen and has a few more years on the hardwood to improve.
Finally, you're comparing Iman Shumpert leaving early versus to Harkless leaving early? In case, you don't remember or don't know (I'm leaning towards the latter again), Shumpert had already played three seasons collegiately before he made the jump to the NBA. So, there is a difference, 'ya know?
