BET - Xavier (1), Thur. Mar. 8, 12 Noon, FS1 / Radio TBD
Last two sentences of Zach Post article on today's game: If everything falls into place, next year could be the breakthrough St. John’s has waited years for. Of course, Red Storm fans have been hearing that for a long time.[/b

Truer words have never been spoken. As true Johnnie fans, we will wait and hope.
Yep! It all depends on who returns, who we bring in with the remaining scholarships, and who we bring in as assistant replacement(s).

Don't get me wrong.... I enjoyed the Duke and Villanova wins; the improbable late rally versus Butler and winning in double-OT (without Ponds); and, last night's win against Georgetown. I'll also applaud the team for playing with grit for the most part. Otherwise, it was a disappointing season. Some other posters may have different views on the season, but it was disappointing for me. It's gonna end without a tournament berth of any kind and a losing record. Several know how I felt about this season and I'm not mincing words about it.

Lastly, if you continue to lower expectations, then you're always gonna meet 'em or come close to meeting 'em. The bar should be significantly raised next season.

Why Ahmed have to open his mouth after the game is over. You just lost by 28 pts , just shake hands and shut up. Why be a punk.
I don't know who was or wasn't a punk. But this is the Big East, and this would have been like a kiss on the cheek compared to what went on when Mullin was playing. Our guys, especially Owens, have been pushed around all season. I don't mind a little pushing back. And this wasn't the first time where Xavier was involved. We were playing with a walk on, with Amar, with a hurting tired Ponds, and an exhausted team. And yet they were carrying on like they just beat the Bruins with Alcindor. So calling Ahmed a punk when you don't know the facts is a little off. Plus, this isn't curling or badminton. When in doubt, I will stick up for my guys.
Listen, Ahmed does NOT have a history of his behavior, so I'm more than willing to side with him. In his two years here, he's been very mild mannered and never caused any trouble. The way Xavier was carrying on at the end throwing down dunks was not cool. Plus as noted, this is not the first time Xavier has had a scuffle.

Here's the thing. We knew early in the season that everything pretty much had to go our way for us to make the tourney. And well, the wheels came off a bit early. I'm at least proud of this group and know they gave their all despite the challenges. I agree that next year its a critical year. In my opinion it could be a make or break for the future of this program.

Maybe they just wanted to offer a handshake to someone they missed on the floor.

JP is a good player and I'd want him on my team. But he constantly causes issues with opponents because of the way he plays, for better or worse. So Mack shouldn't throw stones in a glass house
I see Chris Mack blaming us for starting the scuffle. I'm not there, so I don't know who started what.... But, I have seen Xavier during some yapping in a few games this season and Macura is typically the "ring leader" of that bunk.

Oh, well....
Macura for one has a really big mouth and deliberately says smart ass things to get under opponent's skin. Our guys played their asses off all year and refused to be disrespected. Nothing happened, it's over, and whether this happened or not will not affect much except maybe an early suspemsion next season for a game or two

The best revenge will be to beat Xavier next year and torment the entire conference with wins—not trash talking.
Maybe they enjoy winning games? Macura has 6 NCAA tournament game wins under his belt already with more coming. I'd love a guy like him but that's just me.
Hard pass

Anyone see his tweet? Said time to move on...anyone have any idea if he’d really leave even being a 2nd rounder?

Just said stick together nvm lol who knows?

He and Mullin have been clear, SP will test the NBA process and go from there. My $$ is on a return, but no sense beating this to death. Let it play out.

Hope we are not entering the season of over analyzing every word of kids tweets.

Why the skirmish: I thought Xavier was obnoxious in victory. They have a deep team; we have almost no bench. Of course they won. In the post game interview, their coach admitted that we were also, probably, tired after playing the night before. It would have been a sign of class, if their coach had instructed his team to be gracious in victory. That did not happen. So, I hope that we can field a deeper team next year, beat them, shake hands, and quietly walk off.

We came into the season thin on the bench. To lose your 2nd best player/scorer before the Big East season put this team solidly behind the 8 ball. With Lovett we could have possibly made the NCAA's. Whose fault is it we were short handed? Why didn't Lovett come back? All water under the Bridge; what could have been wasn't. We NEED to break through next year and I for one believe we will.

One of the problems is a Team like Xavier has 5 guys who can shoot from nearly any range . We don’t . Ponds , Owens were off today . Team
Had little energy . It’s unfair to play 2 games in 12 hours . Plus , Xavier is building a solid program that rivals Nova . We aren’t there yet . We need a team that can go 7-8 deep with the bench guys contributing . We are short on that depth . A tired team played . today

I wasn't present when the scuffle occurred so I am not going to judge blame however I do note that Xavier has become the new Georgetown of yesterday where trouble seems to follow them and fights ensue. Seemingly Xavier is involved with more scuffles than all other Big East teams combined. A coincidence ?

Congratulations to StJohn's Bashir Ahmed fo0r a solid D1 career. IMO Bashir progressed nicely this season. I wish he had another season of eligibility, which is not what I would have said earlier in the season.

Marvin Clark II, best quote since I've been covering St. John's, after the loss: “I feel like this year was supposed to be great. I think next year will be great. f anybody doesn’t have that mindset, then they’ll have that mindset by the time the offseason is over with.” #sjubb

Lost a lot of respect for Chris Mack with his post game cheap shot at our players . He says our guys mouthed off . Having his guy execute a slam dunk at the buzzer was Bush and Mack should direct his comments to his own players . Let’s see what happens next year , no Machura , No Bluett . Payback can be a bitch Xavier .,Moving forward we desperately need more physical play in thefront court . We get out muscled every game and the BE is a tough , inside banger League . I don’t know if Mullin has his sights on some front court bulk but , we need it . Owens is not able to handle the rough stuff inside and it’s not his effort lacking but, just not strong enough . We need Post play inside .
