BET - Xavier (1), Thur. Mar. 8, 12 Noon, FS1 / Radio TBD

There's no way Yawke isn't playing because he doesn't deserve minutes. Something is going on. Oh well, doesn't matter. He'll be playing more minutes and earn a graduate degree from a better school next year. Disappointed he saw nothing today, but our walk on did. Mullin and co. Get burned again in the second game of the BET. Horrible way to end the season.
Graduate degree? I think he’ll be sitting out a year.
Nah, he’s immediately eligible. I’m just not sure where he’s going. I don’t think a power 5 team will take him, and he’s not allowed to go to another big East school ( I believe).
Is that a fact that he's graduating? He's only been in school 3 years, unlike Clark and Owens. He's also the last man standing of Mullin's first class of 5 frosh. Not one matriculated to be a senior (assuming Yakwe leaves, grad transfer or not). And Darien Williams didn't exhaust his eligibility either. Of course neither did Lavin's first class of Dwayne Polee. ;)

Looking forward to next season. Can't stand Chris Mack.
Didn't think it was necessary of Chris Mack to place the blame on our guys, especially since he has no idea what happened. Not too serious though, they put him on the spot and it was the heat of the moment.
I too did not like his reaction. TV showed both teams jawing.

I think Mullin is growing into the coaching position very nicely.

“I haven’t advised him as of yet,” said St. John’s coach Chris Mullin. “I think the setup now is perfect. They can gather all the information and make a decision.

“The only people that matter are the 30 men that run the NBA teams, and he’ll get his input like every player in college can. Get transparent information and make a smart decision.”

Ponds also said St. John’s can be “one of the best teams in the Big East next year.”
“We’ll see who does come back but the most important thing will be the good work in the summer,” Mullin said.

Tough way to end the season. We will have plenty of time to autopsy the corpse but this season was decided in January.

I love Ponds. However, his weaknesses were exposed today. As mentioned on the broadcast Xavier put a bigger player to frustrate Shamorie. It worked today. I know he's banged up but he was clearly held in check today. I hope he returns but kid has the right to make his decision.

Mack did the same thing when they scuffled with Cincinnati. Put it on the other team. I’m convinced all the Midwest teams in the BE are All dueche ....... Coaches Players & Fans
Why Ahmed have to open his mouth after the game is over. You just lost by 28 pts , just shake hands and shut up. Why be a punk.
I don't know who was or wasn't a punk. But this is the Big East, and this would have been like a kiss on the cheek compared to what went on when Mullin was playing. Our guys, especially Owens, have been pushed around all season. I don't mind a little pushing back. And this wasn't the first time where Xavier was involved. We were playing with a walk on, with Amar, with a hurting tired Ponds, and an exhausted team. And yet they were carrying on like they just beat the Bruins with Alcindor. So calling Ahmed a punk when you don't know the facts is a little off. Plus, this isn't curling or badminton. When in doubt, I will stick up for my guys.
Chris Mullin on Xavier: "They're just a tough team to play under any conditions. The turnaround is what it is...that's what you get for coming in ninth." #SJUBB

Stand up answer
Yep and I think we have a good, gracious evolving leader in CM, a team with heart and guts, with nice additions ahead - and a program going in the right direction. Not progressing as quickly as some would like, but progressing. I can live with.

Zagoria:
.@ShamorieP on the turnaround from last night: "I was pretty tired. It was real tough. That's a big turnaround, especially only getting like 6-7 hours sleep."

Team fought on pride, as the first half was what was left of the adrenaline they almost depleted yesterday. So looking forward to next season when Ponds will be rested, more experienced and motivated. Should be on the short list for Wooden award.

Jeez. More words exchanged between St. John’s, Xavier.l in underbowels of MSG. Just in passing. Ushers moved things along quickly. @ENQSports

Last two sentences of Zach Post article on today's game: If everything falls into place, next year could be the breakthrough St. John’s has waited years for. Of course, Red Storm fans have been hearing that for a long time.[/b

Truer words have never been spoken. As true Johnnie fans, we will wait and hope.

Zach B article excerpt

Next year could be a big season. Aside from wing Bashir Ahmed, the core is expected to return. Ponds will most likely test the NBA draft waters, but internally a return is expected. Sit-out transfers Sedee Keita (South Carolina) and Mikey Dixon (Quinnipiac) are expected to make an impact, especially the 6-foot-9 Keita, the kind of inside presence this team has lacked. Incoming recruits Greg Williams, a rugged four-star guard, and raw forward Josh Roberts, will offer depth this team has lacked. The staff will look to further upgrade the roster in the graduate transfer market, and plans to zero in on another big man.

If everything falls into place, next year could be the breakthrough St. John’s has waited years for. Of course, Red Storm fans have been hearing that for a long time.
