BET Talk

I’m sorry, if guys need that kind of nonsense to get fired up, especially at this time of year, they are nowhere. We just disagree again, but Kolek’s comment should hurt because it was true, not because it was a slur. The guy may be a jerk but that doesn’t make him wrong.
First Kolek compared SJU’s defense to bbq and now you compare him to jerk.

I don’t know who is right, but all of this mention of comfort food is making me hungry.

It wasn't misconstrued as a slur. It was intended as a slur, mimicking something Shaq said a long time ago. Big difference - Shaq was known for saying ridiculous things to begin with, and he had 320 lbs to back it up.

Seriously doubt Kolek can back it up like that, and even as the player he is, will put a target on his back. He's not even a sure fire NBA player no less mouth off like he is a superstar.
Oh man, in that case I dislike Kolek even more.

I don't mind disagreeing with you here. I grew up admiring Walt Frazier's cool demeanor on the court. He beat you badly, but instead of gloating pursed his lips and shook one fist a couple of times more to himself than to show up an opponent. Trash talk might be very popular now and we had some of it back then, but I can tell you if some of the Queens teams I played on trash talked after winning in Brooklyn we wouldn't have gotten out of gym alive. To me it's just a matter of class. Let your game do the talking, be a gracious winner or loser, or STFU. ( not you, the trash talkers)

If Kolek had said that in the post game handshake he would have gotten popped, and deserved it. Cowardly punk move. Yes he is very good but also classless.

1. Kolek's comment wasn't a slur, it was a throwback Shaq comment.

2. Kolek was also completely correct and he backed it up on the court. Jenkins and Dingle can't defend - how many guards not defended by Taylor or a zone D have lit us up this season? (Trick question, the answer is "all of them").

I don't really get the Kolek hate - I think he's the best player in the league and will not be surprised if he's playing in The League for a long time.

Kolek's got an oblique injury they can be very difficult.

I hope he is out for the BET, unless he plays and we beat them. That's fine.

Then I hope he is healthy for the Big Dance because that gives the BE one more quality team that can go far. Of course, not if we meet them along the way.

If we meet them I hope we beat them by a lot and he has a horrible game, loudmouth. When the reporter asked him what the BBQ chicken comment meant, he laughed and told him to look it up on Urban Dictionary.

A wise guy.

Clyde was the best.

If he made a great basket instead of gloating he would quickly turn to defense and many times steal the inbounds pass.

He made sure fire layups when he could have show boated with a dunk, instead he made sure he got his two points, no style points needed.

He'd give a hand to help an opponent get off the floor.

After getting knocked to the floor himself, he'd lay there for an extra couple of seconds to catch his breath and prepare for the foul shots.

In his prime he played hard every minute of every game he was in usually about 44 minutes a game.

1. Agree, it didn’t come across as a slur.

2. He was correct because it was easy pickings for him. However after playing two incredibly competitive games, how about giving your opponent some credit instead of trashing. I can see where the hate is coming from. Would have had more respect for him if he said this to our players during the game as he was cooking our backcourt. So if we meet for a third time he will truly have a chance to back it up.

He is a heck of a college player, but I don’t believe that will translate to the next level. Just me.

Kolek, definitely not wrong. He torched us in the second half and had his way with our defense. Even with that said, I find him to be one of the more hate able players in the conference today. He has the kind of face you just want to punch (at least three times). But if he had a SJU jersey on; well then I'd love his bravado and his arrogance, but since he's wearing the wrong colors I hate it.

He decided to take over at the end of the first half when he drained that three as the clock expired.

Kolek was specifically going after Soriano and Zuby's inability to deal with him once we switched from zone to man. He's not wrong and he's the not the first guard to use the expression, Steph Curry used the BBQ chicken line as well.

First, Kolek comparison to bbq.
Then Logan does a comparison to jerk.
Now you compare to curry?
All we need now is for someone to bring up being skewered.

Well, I don’t disagree with your assessment of Kolek at all, I was referring to your comment regarding players using it for motivation; Kolek was classless but also right, the 2nd half was an effort abomination and they EARNED those comments.
Clyde is my favorite all-time athlete and was and is the epitome of class. I would love if all athletes conducted themselves the way he did.
So you see, at the end of the day, it makes no difference to me at all what Kolek said, and IMO, the players should feel the same way; what should bother them is the fact that they handed him all the ammunition he needed to make those comments with their soft play. Nobody to blame but themselves.
I am a firm believer you take care and concern yourself only with what you can control, not what you can’t.

We are so old and set in our ways here, that food may be the only thing no one will argue over.
Is it sauce or gravy
Does chili have beans
Is it curried goat or goat curry
Which are better, matzoh balls or kreplach

First one is easy: sauce. I have to reply because I do not want nasty rumors to start that I would use the term gravy for anything other than thanksgiving dinner.

Second, probably not, but I love it with beans.

Third, either way, it is delicious.

Lastly, have enjoyed matzoh with mozzarella and prosciutto. And I know, I bastardized the use of it.

I just gave my opinions, even though you most likely didn’t give a rat’s tail of them.
