(BET) (POST GAME) (#5) Seton Hall, Thur, Mar. 11, 3p, FS-1 / 570 AM WMCA

That's very optimistic ,which has some validity, however, if coach does  not do anything about a BE center, rebounding more good  shooters than we will not be that much better off considering all programs will also do better
we were all trying to believe we could win TODAY. Can't be surprised that we did not.
That said, the staff and players did better than anyone expected which we must give them credit. Getting to the next level and competing for a BE championship is the challenge going forward which we can do once the right players come togetherq

In a game where we trailed for over 90% of the game and never had more than a two point lead at any point,  we still managed to have the lead within the final minute of play. Add in the fact that our best player did not score a point for the last twenty minutes of play, the team shot below 33% from the field, we were dominated on the interior and the boards and Seton Hall mostly dictated the pace and ask your self how this game could have been so close. I believe it was truly miraculous that we took it to overtime and could have won. To me that says a lot about the grit, character and competive nature of this team.

While I am extremely disappointed that we lost the game today, I still love the team and how Coach Anderson has gotten them to play and to battle. I am glad there will be an NIT opportunity for a little more court time and am extremely optimistic about this group going forward next season and beyond.

Longest post in years I'm proud of you :)

NIT or is it time to put the basketballs today?  /media/kunena/emoticons/sad.png

It was still a successful season and I'm definitely looking forward to next year being a breakout year for the program.

one thing I will say though, this is the first time that Champagnie actually looked like he lost his confidence and that includes last season. Just look on his face towards the end of regulation. You just knew we weren't going to get anything from him.

That being said, if we have Moore we win this game in regulation.

Mamu is not a good matchup for Julian.  He's 4 inches taller, much stronger, as just as comfortable playing on the perimeter as Julian is.  It's frankly amazing that Julian got what he got in the three games vs. the Hall this season.

Take the NIT.  Most of these guys will be back next year.  They could use the experience, even if it's one and done.

Seton Hall players , Cale and Rhoden were the difference . They had a combined 35 points and Rhoden had like 18 rebounds .  We had no answer . They are the prototypical BE players you need 6'6 -6'8 or there about that can
beat you off the dribble . Their explosives surprised us . We have 6 foot guards that can get to the rim but , were blocked time and time again today .

They had two 7-footers in the paint and we were missing Moore.
The fact that we took them to OT is a testament to players and CMA. I love this team!

To me, no question we overachieved this season.  As for the Mamu-Penny match-up, they both shot 33% from the field. Off games for both of them. It would have been nice to see us grab that last board with 5 seconds on the clock, call timeout, and watch Posh make a mad dash down the court for the game winning shot. That would have been the dream ending.

The Johnnies achieved a lot during Anderson's 2nd season. I'm proud of what's been accomplished. The team will be even better next season.

I'm disappointed the Johnnies couldn't beat Seton Hall twice in less than a week. The Johnnies played hard all the way into overtime. The players represented their coach & university quite well.

Let's get ready for a chance to play in the NIT.

did we do better than we predicted. I think I had us at 6ish so it would be disingenous for me to freak out other than the totally fair 24 hour anger period after a loss :)

This.  The key is now taking that next step.  They clearly overachieved this year and Coach deserves a lot of credit and got the recognition he deserved with the COY award.  But he ultimately does not want to "overachieve."  He wants to put SJU in a position where they are routinely considered among the best in the conference.  Where finishing 4th and winning 10 league games is not "overachieving" but rather the minimum for this program.  IMHO-There is no doubt that this program despite it's recent struggles can achieve that type of status.

A lot of the teams around the Big East are losing senior talent (unless they come back for the extra year), and you have to figure we will be picked to finish in the top half of the league. Of couse a lot can change, you never know who will decide not to return. But we do have some talent coming in, and our kids will have another year of experience. Feels like we might be one grad transfer big man away from a special team next year.
