(BET @MSG-Game-2) Marquette, Thur. Mar. 14, 7pm, FS1 / 970AM
Go ahead and laugh at Zaun the peacekeeper (hah), but I appreciate both Knight's and Guinness' insights. Fans have a right to be frustrated but unfortunately I've been numb for weeks already or this would probably hit me more.
I must be getting old. I’m in my 40s now, and...I just can’t take it anymore.

Sports don’t mean as much to me as they used to, mortgage, job(s), kids, bills, etc, but we’ve been a sad sack team for decades now. People who are outsiders feel bad for us. They actually want to see us win. We’re a cornerstone of the sport; a throwback.

We started off 12-0. We took stretches off but like I thought ( and posted here) I figured we’d wake up when the BE season began. And, we didn’t. And, then, once we supposedly punched our ticket beating Nova, coming off a great comeback, we, once again, come back down to Earth with a thud. Losing to inferior teams. Playing lackadaisical. Then, tonight, I expected us to lose. This is a good team we beat twice already. It’s tough to beat a good team 3 times. But, even as we cut it down to 6 points, to get our asses beat like that the last 15 minutes was demoralizing. We always get demoralized it seems. Transfers, injuries, suspensions, yada, yada, yada.

This was supposed to our year. We were never winning the NCAAs, but maybe playing a semifinal game in the BET. Sitting comfy on Selection Sunday, drink in hand. It just never ends and anyone who’s been a fan for 30 plus years should be tired of it. Isn’t that human nature?

Don’t really get why no one can express an opinion (it’s a friggin message board) without insulting anyone (which I didn’t) or using curse words or insulting other posters (which I have not). If you’re a fan of this team, this program, this school, and you’re not frustrated by our season (so far) then I don’t knos what to tell you. I am, and you can’t take that away from me or, certainly, call me a quitter.

What was Keita's plus/minus tonight, about minus 40 I would guess. Just awful, can't defend, can't rebound, can't catch the ball. Please transfer, please.
Get the lead down to 8, crowd into the game and Ponds flings up of his patented bricks from 35 feet. Love to see his actual stats on those attempts, about 12% maybe, yet the coach never seemed to care. It will just continue as long as Mullin is here. The fact that Earlington thinks it's okay to be shooting threes tells us all we need to know about this coaching staff. He might crack the backboard someday the way he shoots.
What was Mullin saving that last timeout for?

Sorry guys I blame the staff for the attitude and culture of the team. There are some great athletes on this team but they fail to mesh and fire on all cyclinders. This team plays very good street ball but sloppy organized team ball. Very inconsistent. It’s ok to lose but lose with pride and put up a fight.
Oh, you must be a quitter too ;)
The problem is that I have not quit rooting for this team. The product being sold to the fans is snake oil. Tired of excuses and rebuilding processes. If this looney tunes stuff was happening at a big time school the coaching staff and athletic dept would need to go into witness protection.
Anyone posting here obviously cares. The board is emotional cause everyone is upset. Everyone take a breather and maybe log off
Lol, in the past I would be pissed off and saying stupid crap.
I'm mellow now, maybe because I accepted what sju will be and dont hope for anything more.
Wish one year we wouldn't get blown out after playing on Wed
I wish one year we won’t have to play on Wed.

On a positive note... Simon obviously will never be a gifted scorer but he was excellent in these two BET games and our leader.

Could see him having a Sir Dom like senior year
Why was Clark trying to block that last dunk with three fouls? He just doesn’t get it.
Takes 5 fouls as a badge of honor

We will be extremely fortunate to get to a play-in game. This was the kind of loss that kills bubble teams - we quit.

This wasn't our night. Marquette was loaded for bear.

I do think the kids played hard. They has many deflections and forced a lot of turnovers. That said, this team can be pretty lousy at finishing on the break. We failed to get points on several of those turnovers.

3 for 20 from deep...

Simon & Earlington, & LJ

Never would have expected to be so flat offensively even with a short turnaround.

Clark, Ponds & LJ had very little.

So disappointed and just wondering what ultimately happens with staff.

Unfortunately when we lose we lose big.
As they say, when you live with the three you die with the three.
After watching most of the Big East games this year I can't help but notice how the other teams have offensive movements while we. stand outside passing the ball back and forth. Truly Mullin has no clue with the x's and o's.
If I was scouting for this team Keita would not be on it. He even fumbles rebounds when no one is near him.
Too much switching tonight. Once again Clark on Howard and Keita outside leaving Heron to pick up fouls guarding Johns. Slow learner Mullin.
Watching this disaster I felt as tired as the team looked.

We need to get off to a good start. That's a key in every game we play. The recent loss at Depaul, and the MSG Win over Nova, were abberations.

We are at our best when we are making shots early, because that allows us to set up everything else we do, and gives us a better chance at quickening the pace. Even when we have lulls in those games, we seem to keep our composure better. Maybe, because we have a lead, we don't panic.

Tonight, we were missing early, and then some of the guys (Clark and LJ, most notably) got very tentative. They were passing up good shots, seemingly out of fear of missing. That led to guys like Ponds and Heron having to overdue it, and that puts our entire team out of whack. And, the further we fall behind, the worse it gets.
After a quick search. DePaul and St. John’s are the only teams in the conference to never appear in a BET semifinal since realignment.

That’s the company we keep
That’s the kind of stuff that can really drive you nuts. Avoiding Wednesday consistently, making it to Friday of the BET every now and again...that should be blocking and tackling. And we’ve made both the incredible exception. Embarrassing that’s is been as challenging as it’s been to clear such low bars.

When you consider that nearly half the conference (4/10) plays on Friday, it makes our drought truly pathetic. It's our home court, too...

Losing this game was one thing. I knew it would be nearly impossible to beat Marquette, a much better team than us, 3 times this year. But getting utterly destroyed is inexcusable. Yet again, I’m disappointed but not shocked. I’ve never, in all my years of watching basketball, seen at team with the kind of highs and lows that this team has. We have the ability to look like world beaters in one stretch of a game, and look horrific the next stretch. Really tough to watch because as soon as things start to head south, I always expect the wheels to come flying off, as they did last night. I hope we make the tourney, but not losing sleep it we don’t.
