BET (GAME TIME) #7 / #9 Creighton, Thur., Mar. 12, Noon, FS-1 / 970 AM

You know, it didn't seem all that strange watching it on TV. It looked like the crowd we've gotten during blizzard games.

Now, obviously, the world situation gives things a different feel, but it didn't feel much different then a blizzard day crowd.

Exaggerate much? These decisions are hard, and all organizations have to make them on their timeframe and with the information they have. Again, while awkward, it is not a big deal either way. Should MLB have cancelled the pre-season and delayed the opening of the season last week, and not waited till now? Did they wait too long? Broadway hasn't cancelled all plays yet. Should they have? These are all differences around the margins. I agree that it would have made sense to finish the game once it started, but it is not a major deal. Get over it.

Very rough look for the Big East Conference here. They needed to make a decision before the tip as to whether or not they were going to play these games. Absolutely nothing changed between last night and now other than other conferences cancelling. Completely unorganized and unfair to to the kids, teams, coaches, and those working at the Garden.

Also, cancelling a game at the half mitigates absolutely nothing and makes them look like even more of jokes. All this does is potentially save Creighton's seeding (if the NCAA goes on) because Johnnies were about to mop them up.
You are so right on all fronts. What a disgrace this Conference became overnight. Just further exposed a lot of people unnecessarily. A complete effing disgrace.
I'm working on a technology that will have the referees call fouls from a hermetically sealed booth, with the coach sending plays to a robot standing on the sidelines who will relay it to the team by hand signals. If this was last season, I would have had to program the robot to sit on the scorer's table and curse out the refs in the booth. Makes my job easier.

Too bad for LJ, he was on his way to becoming SJU's alltime single season leader in made three pointers today.
He knocked down 3 from distance in the first half that would have put him one behind D'Angelo Harrison who holds the record.

Hopefully someone here can answer this question for me. How does health insurance for student athletes work? Does either the school or NCAA provide any, or are the athletes responsible for their own, as are every other student?

It's insane to end it like that. Tv crews are there, the coaches, and athletes. What's 45 more minutes to play the 2nd half.

This country is losing it's freaking mind.
Agreed. I was proud that the big east had some balls and decided to play. But then they crumbled to the pressure. Complete paranoia is this wussy generation.
The thing I am still struggling with is why everyone seems so focused on shutting down sports. And it probably should be shut down. Don’t get me wrong. Yet work continues, trains, planes, airports, nyc public schools, church’s, mosques, synagogues all open. Yet everyone is focused on the Big East Commissioner, NBA Commisiner, or MLB and so on. Yet no one is killing the Mayor of NYC or the CEO of big banks etc. The power or influence (?) of sports is fascinating.

I agree that it’s no big deal.

In the grand scheme of things, no one will remember that the big east let 20 minutes of basketball happen.
Let's hope that's the case because that will mean that no one was infected. But if this decision was made in the name of safety or caution, please explain to me how it achieved either of those things?
You have to remember everything happened so fast. Conference tournaments started canceling this morning. All the other major conferences had the teams and personnel in their respective buildings. It’s not like the big East was much worse off. Yo I are completely overreacting

St johns was making an epic run. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you cant make this sh!t up. Im so mad. Waiting all season for this. The kids must be pissed. Think of a guy like Rutherford who is now probably done for his career.

DAMN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If anyone should be blamed, it should be the NCAA for leaving the decisions up to the conferences just hours before they started their games at noon.

Chris Mullin pointed this out on FS1.

If the NCAA hasn’t canceled their tournament is it that egregious that the big east didn’t cancel theirs right away? I’m confused by the outrage

I have to say. It was a tough season. However, I will never forget this St John’s team. They have there flaws but their are some tough ass kids who gave it all they had. Just think how Herron and LJ came back. Dunn became eligible. Duke became a force. Champagnie became a player. Thanks Nick Rutherford. All of it. Hopefully, we will look back positively at the first year of the MA era.

I was going to start a Conjecture site to post but , this one is as good as any .. Here goes , if St John’s beat Creighton again , even for a 1/2 should we have snuck into the NCAA spot that Xavier was wavering on ? If the BE was going to get 7 slots , we were basically next man up , after Xavier was knocked out , right ? And , throw in a 1/2 win against the Blue Jays , why not ?

It was definitely loud enough on TV. I was expecting stretches of eerie silence.

We needed to beat providence/butler in the next round and we would have gotten serious consideration for the NCAA. This will be tough to get over cause we were hot and I really think we could have done it.,

I just got back from shopping and was looking forward to seeing how St John's was doing.
Shopping, isn't that interesting. We close every sports venue in the U.S. but leave supermarkets open. People touching all items and there is no worry?

Where are you seeing outrage? We are all just giving our opinions. What additional risks were avoided by canceling the game at halftime when everyone was already exposed to each other? They did it for optics because everyone else had cancelled and instead of thinking for themselves they let other conferences make the decision for them. Val Ackerman is quoted as saying the Presidents didn't know other conferences had cancelled so that proves they just followed like sheep instead of deciding for themselves. Cancelling at halftime is like a women telling a man to stop in the middle of coitus because she wants to remain a virgin.

From what I saw on TV it looked as if Creighton had more fans at the game.

Don't know if you heard but both Duke and Kansas have suspended all spring sports. looks as if the NCAA is next.

Say goodbye to the playoffs.

Yes I’m responding to a poster who is expressing outrage at the situation and suggesting the big east is incompetent. They absolutely did it for optics. I’m responding to the people who think that them playing the first half was this big deal that shows the conference is dumb. I don’t believe that at all

Am I seeing this right that the MEAC is still playing their tournament today? If so, kudos to them. Wish the BE has a set like that.
