(BET) #4 Seton Hall, Thur., Mar. 14. 2:30p, FS-1

Luis on Richmond is the move. Luis can look so good when things are clicking with his Ponds-like hands and that absurd makeup block from behind when he’s beat. Plus, with Richmond you can go under every screen and stay on him…switching and dealing with screens is where Luis has struggled most.
Oi, RJ Luis had some nice plays against Epps towards the end of the G’town game, but he also had 29 games of guards flying right by him during our ‘press’ giving up the insane fast break after a made bucket.

Kadary wants to go to the basket. I think that would be a match SHU would want to exploit.

I guess the logical is they are the same size, but I don’t like it. I’d rather have Jenkins on him and have whomever is guarding wasu cheat and come quick with the help.

Or may be recognizing the ratings, sound bites and talking points available from a Pitino presence in the tournament. IMO, that is the committees #1 criteria always, given that that is certainly not an absolute unto itself for selection.
I get what you're saying too... as example, I just don't see the AD @ Santa Clara or Samford, or Commissioner of Big Sky really going above and beyond on their research to make the case. Maybe one or two but not most. This is a side gig for them.

I am incredibly cynical about subjective selections where $ is involved; I believe “outside influences” have much more of an effect in reality than any AD doing thorough research to come up with a “well thought out” fair list of teams.

A lot of past SJ induced anxiety & disappointment can be washed away tomorrow! After Lunardi said we need to beat Hall to make NCAAT it made me more nervous. To come this far we really need to win and make it. Would be so deflating to go through the wild rollercoaster & not make it. Need 110% effort & laser focus as a team.

Why do we describe every tough game as a "rock fight"? Is a "rock" the standard unit here?
Isnt that Mike Anderson's ONLY philosophy and the ONLY thing he coaches. 3 hard minutes , rock fight. Say what you want about Mullin but St. Jean really did try and coach that team!

Would cosign for this but below Ledlum and cowbell in that order
Where does the Sweater guy fit in ? The fella that at key points in the game would stand up at MSG and twirl his sweater or sweatshirt around at a furious pace .
He was the size of a Offensive lineman so you couldn’t miss him .

He was active during our glory years of the Mullin Berry era .

Who remembers him ?

I love Jenkins, great player for us, but he has a lot of trouble staying with guards who are quick off the dribble. I'd like to see Taylor on Richmond and when he's not playing, then Luis.

I remember the guy he looked like a Chris Farley double; (don't think it was a sweater tho) he would take his shirt off, and naked from the waist up twirl it over his head furiously. It really got the crowd going.

He also, got one side of the area chanting WE ARE and the other side responding ST. JOHN'S, it was awesome. Bring that back somehow.

Tnice: The SJU-Duke game in '99 when Bootsy had 40 and we lost in overtime featured the greatest flagboy performance ever. That chubby MF left it all out on the floor, did about 17 laps, nearly gave himself a heart attack, and 19,000 people gave him a standing O. The Duke fans sitting in front of me were high fiving me. All time great performance.

Was at the Duke game with Bootsy and Ron Ron leading us into OT and almost a Victory. We were behind the basket with the band and students and saw Flag Boy come off the floor and honestly we were afraid he was going to have a heart attack, seriously worried for him.

The Big Guy in the cheap seats and Flag Boy, this were great times!

Remember pre-season, CRP's High Motor, Mid Motor, Low Motor speech.

Tomorrow if you're not playing High Motor I don't think you're playing.

Sam Albano rushing the court after the win and kissing a shocked Jarvis was hysterical.

Jenkins isn’t even an option.
Luis has been completely lost on switching and screens all season. With Richmond you can go under everything and stay on him to minimize those problems. If we lose because Richmond is nailing treys off the bounce you just tip your cap.

He can also stay closer to the basket which reduces his biggest physical weakness —foot speed. He only has to slide 5-7 feet to be in position to contest or block a layup.

He’s our most physically talented defender even with his weaknesses. Richmond is still going to be Richmond no matter what.

I’d start in a standard zone and go to more man principles when Luis, Zuby, and Alleyne come in.

This team is actually built for a 1-3-1 with Luis up top but tigers don’t change their stripes…especially old tigers like Pitino and Boeheim.

01/24/99 The Garden--Bootsy 40 pts, Ron Ron 22, Barkley 11 assists, but we lose to #2 Duke in OT, we were #8. Jarvis was the coach. Ty Grant out because of a wrist injury. Maven maybe stormed the court anyway lol.

One of our be problems is everyone on our team has trouble staying with guards and our secondary defenders are often late. RJ Luis is prone to taking plays off and getting lost on the defensive end. Not sure why we’d want him on their best player. Unless the strategy is Richmond’s going to go for 20+ we have to make sure Dawes and Davis are held in check.

Richmond can’t hit a three with is fortunate for us, but what he will do if Luis goes under every screen especially if he is slow doing in or gets out of position is drive right into his chest and live at the foul line.

The answer probably has to be more than one guy. As you’re right going to a new defensive concept now would just lead to more breakdowns.
