(BET) #4 Seton Hall, Thur., Mar. 14. 2:30p, FS-1

What were the Honest thoughts after that loss...? Sitting at 5-1 (with 2 wins by 1 point over the Bonnies and Fordham at Home)... did you guys think you had a top team in the Nation/Final 4 squad?

I was at that game. Extremely disappointed and angry and had to endure the taunts of Niagara fans,,,but in no way did we have second thoughts about how good we could be. None whatsoever.

We had access today. Not much news. A few notes.

-- RIck Pitino said he expects 4-5 players back next year.

-- Team is confident that pressure they had to win out will help them on Thursday.

-- Big thing is matching Seton Hall's toughness.

-- Area Pitino feels is key is free throw line. In two Seton Hall games, St. John's attempted just 18 free throws, compared to 51 for Seton Hall.

-- If game is tight late, plan is to put RJ Luis on Kadary Richmond.

-- Pitino raved about how well Dre Davis is playing for Hall of late. They have to slow him down.

Take this for what's it's worth: St. John's is in 106 of 114 brackets on BracketMatrix.com. I think a win Thursday locks up a bid. Still could mean Dayton. Lose Thursday, probably a 50/50 shot, if not worse.
Luis on Richmond is the move. Luis can look so good when things are clicking with his Ponds-like hands and that absurd makeup block from behind when he’s beat. Plus, with Richmond you can go under every screen and stay on him…switching and dealing with screens is where Luis has struggled most.

I think we're in the NCAAs almost regardless of the outcome here, save for a blowout in SH's favor here. May be naive and wishful thinking, I know. But this is a great opportunity to get a resume padding win, get out of the Dayton pod, and get into the main draw of the tourney.

Also, can't help but look ahead to the potential of a raucous crowd at MSG on Friday evening if we can pull this out (also assuming an expected result by that team up north in the noon game, of course).
I think they can win this tournament

They will be attacking our guards, we should attack theirs. Get them in foul trouble. It's not going to be easy but we have to play to win.

Minimize live ball turnovers, and get back on transition.

That Dude is way skinnier than the Flag Boy I remember!

Edit: I swear I didn’t see MarkRedman’s post. He is spot on. The Dude I remember looked ready to pass out.
The SJU-Duke game in '99 when Bootsy had 40 and we lost in overtime featured the greatest flagboy performance ever. That chubby MF left it all out on the floor, did about 17 laps, nearly gave himself a heart attack, and 19,000 people gave him a standing O. The Duke fans sitting in front of me were high fiving me. All time great performance.

I think this post will be the last one I read tonight because you just had me laughing so much :)

Seriously I’m crying laughing

100% agree. The committee isn't just looking at us statically. The growth over the season, Pitino and a bunch of new guys, it all matters.

My buddy who is also a huge fan worships that guy, we still joke about it.
