Beer !!

I can't believe there is a beer named velvet merkin.
But you can believe there's a beer called Sucaba?

Apparently this beers name is causing some problems with some sensitive folks.

Was at Trader Joe's yesterday and picked up a couple of Sours. Anyone try these? Last night tried a Flemish sour. I tend to like sour stuff like good sauerkraut so I enjoyed but can see how someone might hate it. Tastes like a decent beer then finishes pretty sour. I tried it but probably won't buy any more sours other than the "Petrus" Aged (Belgian) Ale which I also picked up and will try this weekend.

Maybe a slight offshoot of the beer thread but what places on long island do people like for beers ? Sapsuckers in huntington always rotates their drafts and have excellent beers. Founders room downstairs at the paramount always rotates 5 but by the time i get to the 4th I'm full and they are usually pretty excellent except for last night the 1st 2 were disgusting. Finleys is always good too

There's actually a story to that name. It's really not Sucaba. It is a symbol that looks like an upper case S then Ucaba. You read it backwards, the beer is is spelled abacus, which is its former name. They were sued by a wine company or something like that for having the abacus name or similar so they reversed it and made the intertwined double S symbol. The real story is that it's the best beer I've ever had to date.
I know the story, I actually call it abacus. I just thought it was funny he would focus on the Velvet Merkin thing when there's a beer called Sucaba.

The sweet baby Jesus thing is hilarious. It's not even that great. Not bad, not great.

I don't know Huntington well but I hear Sapsuckers is good.

Bar-wise? The Good Life in Massapequa is good. Republic in Farmingdale, I like. The Villager in Babylon is decent. I don't go out much anymore.

had the Petrus tonight. Really sour. 5/5 on the sour scale (according to the label). It's definitely a different experience but can see how people could get into this in a similar way that people get into aged cheeses and seek out that ammonia flavor. I like this one quite a bit more than the Flemish but it is even more sour.

Had that once. I actually think someone brought it to my beerfest one year. Liked it a lot

Had a Founders All Day IPA last night during dinner at Honu. Liked that one even more than the founders centennial ipa that I tried a week or 2 ago

Id remember them if I saw them but I was pretty bombed last year. My buddy loves that place and I do as well. Like I said, great beer menu which changes every week. Something like 24 taps but very well selected.
