One night we were in Belfast at the Crown Saloon which is a must go if anyone is ever there as it's one of the oldest bars in belfast with a ton of history and it was one of those nights I was determined to try virtually every beer on tap. Long story short at this pub literally over the course of 2 hours we have about 10 new friends who were locals there and since I'm trying every beer on tap pretty much I ask them what are they drinking because I figured the next beer I'm going to have is whatever they were having because it certainly didn't look like
I missed this post, but, holy crap! I've been to the Crown. That's the pub with the undetenated bomb in it, right? That was the first time I ever had 15-year Redbreast Whiskey. One of the smoothest liquors around.

Don't remember about a a bomb still three but I do remember the hotel across the street being the most bombed place in belfast and that the crown got hit with shrapnel a lot. So I guess not only didm the drinkers get bombed from all the alcohol but the bar did also

Gotta be the same place. Best bar in Belfast and the Brazen Head in my opinion the best bar in Dublin

Is this the place you went ?

You got there before us. We went there around 2011 after we were in Dublin for St Patricks Day

Did you take the black cab tour in belfast ?

Cheers from the Crown Saloon :)

No. Funny enough, me and the wife went on a 5-day tour with the Mary Carroll's crew from Babylon and it was only $1300 for the entire trip with 2 dinners included plus tours and stuff. We did two nights in Lederkenny (donegal) and 2 nights in Belfast. Great trip, great people. The afterhours stuff was bonkers, haha

I had Sam Adams Honey Queen Braggot today for the first time. It was very hot today, around 90, and the first sip from this ice cold bottle was strange. It was less honey than I thought and more of a chamomile tea taste. As the beer got warmer, it was like drinking 2 totally different brews. Think I actually like the taste of it more as it warmed up a bit. Anyone else ever have this?

I had this, ironically enough, during the SJU-SDSU Tourney game. It was fairly decent, especially for the pricepoint, but it was a little sweeter than I usually like. For a Harpoon, though (not the biggest fan), it was solid

If you like your ales with honey added, you can't beat this, although Bell's only brews it once a year, in January, and it's not the easiest to get. This is a 10% DIPA.

Screen shot of some of the big dogs I brought up to Lake George this spring on vacation with aome friends this April.

Wow. Very impressive. Those 50/50 Eclipses aren't cheap either. I had the BA Narwhal on New Year's Eve and the KBS is one of my favorites. I have a VR Bourbon Bounty and a Boulevard BBQ in my basement, I can't wait to have those. My biggest question is how did you get the Deschutes? I heard that one is really good.

I searched around online for the deschutes abyss and found a few bottles at market price. The hardest one to find is the Sucaba. They only make like 1-2K cases of it. A few weeks ago I found a guy out in Seattle at a store that I ordered from before who got in a brand new case of Firestone Walker Parabola. He was willing to sell a few to me, and they are also real rare, but apparently as of a week prior, Seattle no longer able to ship beer to NY. The laws in these states often change monthly which makes it even trickier.

Those Eclipses are expensive and also hit or miss. Some are good, some are awful. And try to find that velvet merkin. Delicious beer.

I bought a Sucaba a few months ago from Whole Foods in Chelsea but I gave it to my friend for his birthday. Never had, I've obviously heard its great. I could have bought a Parabola like 4 years ago in Caesar's in AC (of all the places) but it was 20 something bucks and FW had just started distributing around here and I was unfamiliar with the beer and wanted the $$ for gambling.
I had Velvet Merkin and it is good. I drank it fresh, probably should have aged it a bit.

I had the High West Rye 50/50 last year and it was phenomenal. I have a 4 Roses 50/50 in the basement, don't know when I'll drink it. I hear it's one of their best.

That CW BA Barleywine was also great. I recently had the Bell's Saturn Bringer of Old Age...if you see it, buy it. I loved it. I have another BA Narwhal and a BA Sierra Nevada Barleywine I'm sitting on and a 2-year old Oatmeal Yeti too. I used to have like 5 vintage Yetis but I'm down to just that one.

I don't like to say I have a cellar, but I'm probably sitting on about 2 cases of bombers and another 60 something 12oz bottles in the basement. They're almost all stouts, old ales and barleywines. Wife thinks I'm nuts, of course, but whenever I pop something from down there, she's like "where's mine?" Typical, haha

We better never hang out, we'll either have massive hangovers or develop diabetes, overnight, haha

I have to admit how much i am enjoying this thread. I know absolutely nothing about beer and pretty much drink anything that is handed to me but i had a monk beer at a BBQ ( CHIMAY) that was by my novice taste buds delicious . Is this known as good beer or should i stick to talking about High school basketball players and reviewing Italian restaurants? :)

I too know so much more about Italian restaurants than I know about beer, so lets start the thread on good and bad Italian restaurants!!

You and MCN might know more about beer than anyone I know

Haha. It's near impossible to "stumble" on parabola or Sucaba any more. I Loooove Central waters BBBW. Fantastic when fall rolls around and it is released. Their BBS is good too. Last year I was able to score two cases of Bourbon County as well.

Believe it or not, I had most of the Fift Fifty eclipses. I hated the four roses. Best were the Buffalo Trace, High West and the Rye. The Java was awful IMO as was the Elijah 23. The one in the picture I'd recommend if you like Bourbon Barrel stout is the Stone's Fyodor's Classic. It's a limited release bourbon stout and is amazing actually.

I have one bottle of the Bourbon Bigfoot left. It's quite good which I'm surprised about because I don't care for the regular Bigfoot. It's too hoppy for a barley wine. The barrel aged is smoother. Try chocolate yeti which I like.

I have one sleeper for you. Try Arctic Devil Barrel Barleywine. It's fantastic, made in Alaska.

I can't believe there is a beer named velvet merkin.
But you can believe there's a beer called Sucaba?

There's actually a story to that name. It's really not Sucaba. It is a symbol that looks like an upper case S then Ucaba. You read it backwards, the beer is is spelled abacus, which is its former name. They were sued by a wine company or something like that for having the abacus name or similar so they reversed it and made the intertwined double S symbol. The real story is that it's the best beer I've ever had to date.
