Beer !!

I had to go to a wake on Staten Island yesterday, and I managed to locate some good beer afterward, at Craft House in St. George area, real nice tap list, cool place, had Mexican Cake by Westbrook on tap, excellent. Also Peekskill Simple Sour a real light crisp tart beer.

Adobe Blues had a beer from Illinois Off Color Farmhouse, very nice.

And finally a weirdly named, odd place near the Goethels Bridge, Bootleg Manning's bar, part sports bar, part whiskey bar, and part craft beer bar, but a nicely poured Barrier Non Cents on tap.

Craft beer has finally come to Staten Island.

I heard from the locals that Flagship, the local brewery that just recently opened on S.I., has beers that are "OK", they are getting better from a year ago. But drinking local is ok too.

I had the pleasure of flying back to NY yesterday on Brussels Airlines, where I was pleasantly surprised and impressed with their selection of inflight beers. I had bottles of Julius Pale Ale as well as Forbidden Fruit Amber Ale, courtesy of the airlines. Both were excellent. Here ae their beer offerings.

I'm going to have to make a mental note of that airline :)

For your next South American trip, fly JFK to Brussels with them, and then Brussels to Lima with Iberia.

You couldn't get me this idea 3 weeks ago when I booked my tickets ? :)

I fly down there thursday on LAN. I don't even know what beer they have on those flights. I do overnights so I'm passed out sleeping by the time the food comes

all in the past week. Fantastic beers, with the Sip of Sunshine my favorite

One of each? I was a Coopers fan back in the day. Use to get slabs (cases) of VB form the Australian consulate in NY for like $8 each in the '90s.

Loved the Coopers. A great beer. Yes, I tried to sample as many of the local brews as I could. What the heck, they drive on the left anyway!

Surprisingly restaurants here in Peru never have a huge beer selection but there always 2 solid Peruvian Standbys. Crystal and Cusquena

Cusquena went down well before I switched to Inka Cola

This is how we roll while quad biking in the bolivian outback wearing my head to toe sju travel gear.

I had to get the big beer because 4 hours before this picture was taken we got pulled over by some bolivian cop in the boonies and shaken down for money. Luckily the dollar is strong in bolivia so 40 bolivianos to the cop was only about $6 US currency :). Even better is I got whole ordeal on my go pro head cam. lol

Oh and the beer was Elinka. Would have liked it colder but considering I'm not even sure they have working electricity where this was taken even though there were electric poles the beer was pretty good

3 new beers tried here on vacation

the 1st was Pacena and it's the unanimous beer of choice for every can driver which is nice to know they all drink the same thing when they are driving in this insane traffic. It was excellent

the 2nd I really enjoyed too. Huari

the 3rd took a little getting used to. Lipena. It's a beer made from quinoa. So I talked myself into believing it was healthy. At first I didn't like it but then it grew on me

my favorite time of the beer year. Pumpkin Ale Season

I generally prefer it on tap with that sugar around the glass but I bought some bottles from the store the other day.

Roadsmary's baby- I give it about a 6.5 pumpkin scale rating

Whole Hog Pumpkin was real good for a bottle beer. Strong taste of cinnamon and nutmeg. A solid 8 rating

If anyone knows where to get good pumpkin ale on tap in either long island or nyc let me know

Southern Tier PumpKing some people's favorites and should be readily available this time of year.

Rattle n Hum, Ginger Man and One MIle House in NYC should all have their pumpkins up now.

The two highest rated I heard are Schafly (St. Louis), Cigar City and Dogfish Head

I tried southern tier this week and liked it. 7 pumpin rating. Try the whole hog. It's like drinking a pumpkin pie

Also liked Ballast or ballast point or something like that

Didnt like Long Ireland Pumpkin at all

For the local IPA geeks....drank this the other night...right there with the Vermont DIPAs I've had. Dank finish, total pineapple, passion fruit, mango taste. A little thin with the mouthfeel, but it was fantastic.

friend of mine who lives in Vermont just sent me a beer called Heady Topper which she says is something like the 5th highest beer ranking in the world by some beer group

Nice beer. I like it a lot
