Beer !!

We should have a thread on beer people try and like aside from the lobster roll thread :)

Tried tonight a Fire Island Red Wagon IPA and loved it

Also came across this article beer lovers might like of beers to try before we die

Am proud to say that when I saw the article earlier today you immediately came to mind.

I'm honored :)

nice topic maher. would it be hijacking the thread if we merged preference in cannabis strains? indica here with a nice cold Krušovice Imperial

I don't smoke but feel free to add those for any of the others who partake in that lifestyle

yep. lol

Actually it's kind of funny since I do like my beer that people think I smoke. But I don't touch cigarettes and never had the urge to smoke pot ( even though 90 % of my friends do ) and never touch any other drug and never have

I would eat a brownie or cookie if I went to colorado or amsterdam though :)

Literally the only drug I have ever taken is when I fly long flights and mr Dr gives ma xanax for them which for some reason makes me sleep :)

So, my two cents. If you like IPA's the Sam Adams Whitewater IPA is great (mix of a Belgian and IPA), as is their Rebel IPA. I would also recommend Otter Creek's Black IPA, Lagunita's IPA (the regular one, not the dog town one) and Dale's Pale Ale (only comes in cans).

If you like Summer beers, Sam Adams is excellent, as is River Horse, Victory and Sierra Nevada's Summerfest (better in cans than bottles, although the bottles are still good).

If you like flavored Stout's but nothing too crazy (stay away from the Sweet Baby Jesus brew, which is a mix of a peanut butter and chocolate flavor and is awful), try Sam Smith Organic Chocolate Stout and the Wolaver's Oatmeal Stout (also made by Otter Creek). And, if you happen to be in Florida, see if you can find Midnight Oil Coffee Stout (which is made by Swamp Head brewery out of Gainesville). That beer is fantastic.

Finally, as for smoking, I only enjoy the occasional cigar. If you're into cigars with your beer, check out Cigars International for prices. I'd recommend the Indian Tabac, Puros Indios and CAO Black. There are many good ones, but these have great flavor for the price.

for Sam Adams fans you ever try the Utopias or Triple Boc? I purchased both in 2003. The Utopias I shared with family/friends but still some left in the decanter. The Triple Boc I never opened. Still drinkable?

I don't think you'd die, so go for it.

I recommend the Trappist for anyone passing through the Bay Area

http://www.thetrappist.com/on-tap.php

And if you pass out in the street I can come rescue you since I'm 30 seconds away. Or maybe just steal your wallet if I dislike your Redmen.com posts.

I will make a point of checking it out sans passing out in street. If you get north of the Bay Area, the original brewpub of the Mendocino Brewing Co is still right on Main St in (aptly named) Hopland. The Brewpub itself is on the small side on almost a dive, but the brew on tap is really nice. Mendocino was one of the original micro brews that started the whole microbrew thing in the 80s/90s and was probably the most notable winning the most awards early on. Eye of the Hawk, Blue Heron, Red Tail Ale... They were bought out and publicly traded now but still pretty good. Last time I was there, they said they operated the brewpub independently but not sure how that works.

And for OhioFan - factoid. Hopland brewpub was the first brewpub opened in the United States after the repeal of prohibition in 1933...

Next trip I have to make is a sonoma-napa for nathalie but the other half will be a brew tour with Larry and Paul

Beer is not like wine, so it's probably no good, but what's the harm in trying it? You'll know right away if it smells or tastes bad.

As for your comments on Mendocino, I agree that's good beer, I like the ones you've mentioned below, and several others. It's hard to find a bad beer that they make.

I actually think that the USA and Belgium have by far the biggest range of beer types overall, from low alcohol, high alcohol, dark to light. USA has amazing stuff wi a huge microbrew evolution over past 10 years or so.

In the winter, i favor bourbon barrel stouts and barleywines. The best ones are excellent. There are also many bad ones. Summer beers i favor nice cool IPA's. To me very refreshing. Once people narrow down topics per thread its easier to focus., or specific question is asked. Since its summer, I'll go with IPA's.

Best IPA's that are easily found for me and decent price are:
- founders All Day IPA (least expensive and delicious)
-Ballast Point Skulpin and Ballast Point Big Eye
- Lagunitas Little Sumpin Extra
- Bear Republic Racer 5
-Founders Centennial IPA
- Stone Delicious IPA

One i haven't tried yet, which I've seen in the stores recently is Ballast Point Grapefruit Skulpin and I've heard it's fantastic and different. People are scoring it very highly. Will probably grab some tomorrow lol.

There are a ton of other great IPA's but those are in my regular rotation often as they are all great and a little different.

Also good and in IPA family but a little different are
-Lagunitas Black IPA
- Troegs Nugget nectar.

Looking at the number of responses on this thread, we can safely identify the one buzzword that can match "Lavin" for far reaching opinions and comments.

Trust me......

You guys do not want to get me started on this topic.

If you're in NYC and you haven't been to either the Ginger Man, Rattle n Hum, the Blind Tiger, Fraunces Tavern or Beer Culture...you're missing out. I hear the Jeffrey and Fools Gold are both great too.

Keeping it local....if you like IPAs you must try anything from Brooklyn's own Other Half or Queens' SingleCut Beersmiths. Long Island folks,...Barrier in Oceanside has a nice selection and I enjoy most of Port Jeff's selections. Can never go wrong with SixPoint, either.

I love ales, stouts and the German biers. I've been enjoying Barleywines lately too, and the occasional Belgian Trappists or Tripels are good too. Come see my basement, mwhahahahah

I will add one thing...there is absolutely nothing better than a well-crafted pilsner in the appropriate glass on a hot day. Nothing.

The Utopias will never go "bad." Age only helps a unique beer like that. I've had it 2 separate times, fantastic. The triple bock won't go "bad" but I would drink it soon, like on a cool night. It'll probably taste good, but it's probably passed its prime by now.

When we get visitors in Florida we usually take them at some point to the on the water less formal part of 15th street fisheries in Lauderdale and include Key West Sunset Ale as part of the meal.

Wow. Funny you should ask. I got a 4-for-2 deal bought for me for my birthday but it just expired because it's a bit of a trip for me. I didn't like the Barn Rocker. The IPA was decent, but their oyster stout was very good. Go, why not? You're right there.
