That's the best news.. We need Coach fully engaged on the coaching side.. and I can let the table sitting slideGood game. Did anyone take notice of the coaching during the game? Was St. Jean running the show? Mullin?
Although St. Jean did some coaching (as he should), Mullin was much more engaged than last year.

3. Biggest eyebrow raiser were our bigs. Sima looked bigger but much the same, liked Owens energy especially on the backboards, and am hoping for Yawke was mostly an issue of gameflow not coming his way. But am hoping to see more early in the season here, especially Sima/Owens, as while I love the ability to have a look with Yawke at the 5, I don’t want that to be a default. At a minimum, these guys should be walking around campus looking for passes – with Lovett and Ponds they clearly need to be ready at all times!
The passing was phenomenal including Mussini and Sima (as the passer). Disappointing to see a few fumbles but if they get this down that makes for great basketball.
Feeling very good about our 4 man backcourt. Also feeling very good with RF and Bashir moving between the 3 and 4 spots, with AA and possibly Williams spelling them. Hoping that between Sima, Yakwe and Owens, we find the post player/players to provide consistent production.

There will plenty of time and opportunity for Yakwe and Sima to develop with the current guards but I don't know if last night was the time to have them dominate inside against an over matched opponent with alley oops over a 6'5 center. I don't think Mullin wanted to do that to coach AlesI and he wisely used the game to break in his new players.
I also have to agree with what Jack said above: man, do our bigs need to develop softer hands! Numerous drop offs underneath were mishandled. Far too many. And only one was a rwalk zip pass.
They've gotta be ready to catch the ball and just go up with it.
Agreed, don't want a repeat of Omar's one year at STJ where there were so many TOs because guys just weren't ready and able to catch great passes.
Agreed but let's remember that team barely lost to Seton Hall last season which won the Big East Championship. Let's give Baruch a little credit where credit is due.I was at the game last night. First impression....... after the first 6 minutes they looked like a cohesive basketball team. They ran some good offensive sets ( pick & roll, some nice cuts, good spacing and moved the ball well). Can't tell much defensively against a smaller slower D3 team.
Total upgrade in talent with the new kids. Very impressed with RF could be an 1st team big east caliber player over time. I was surprised how small Ponds was. I still think RICO will get his share of minutes. And yes Mullin was coaching.
We blew out a Div 3 school . And we should. So far so good!
I wasn't looking for domination from Sima and/or Yakwe, however I was looking for some signs of improvement from both of them. I didn't see that. Sima definitely looked more toned than last year, but a far cry from the Howardesque physique that some here were touting based on the pic he posted on twitter(or wherever he posted it). Hopefully both will show more in the BC game.

3/3 FT from Sima is a great sign to me. You can tell Yakwe has been working on his stroke too. Wasn't expecting either to come in gigantic. They both put on some bulk and look more physically mature. They are sophomores making good progress.

It is a good thing Ahmed seems like a nice kid because he def could take everyone on the team's lunch money if he chose to do so.

I am told Ahmed and Marvin Clark Mano a Mano in practice is a sight to see. Both are very good shooters but Clark will remind you of Anthony Glover with a better stroke. Next year with Clark, Ahmed, Ponds, Yawke, Lovett, Simon, RF, and company St. John's will be able to play 40 minutes of hell. It may be the first time in a quarter century that the inflated ticket prices will be worth it.

Fwiw a friend who watched a workout was equally impressed with Clark. However the guy who really stood out to him was Simon in transition. He did not have a sense of his shooting capability, but lauded his speed & quickness.
Next year is going to be a dog fight for PT. As long as Lovett, Ponds, Yakwe, Ahmed and Sima are still here with those two I expect us to make the tourney next year.
