(Baha Mar Hoops) #13 Baylor, Thu., Nov. 21, 7p, CBSSN

So did Baylor. They choked several times too. Missed free throws galore just like us.

Regardless of who “deserved” to lose, by rule the clock starts when the ball is touched. If that rule is followed by the clock operator it becomes a much more difficult shot attempt for Baylor. It is ridiculous that they botched that. This is a high level Divison 1 basketball game. Like give me a break
The whole thing was bush league. The players had to mop up their own sweat. That was embarrassing.

Like I said you can chalk the loss up to countless things we did wrong. But when a team has 4.1 seconds to get a shot off. And they get gifted extra time because the rules weren’t followed by the clock operator, it is extremely frustrating and no one will be able to convince me otherwise
Don’t misunderstand me, I am not remotely trying to convince you of anything. I get where you are coming from, I just don’t look at it the same way you do.

The problem now as some have eluded to is that if we play a mediocre UVA team and lose, that will hurt our resume. We will see what this team is made of tomorrow. If we win tomorrow and then Sunday, this loss will always sting but won’t hurt us in the long run. If we lose the next game or two, that could spell disaster come dance time.

We are in a much better place than we’ve been since at least Lav’s first year (probably longer) and Pitino obviously has a great resume but he made some head scratching decisions tonight most notably sitting Smith for so long during Baylor comeback, leaving Zuby in for that last out of bounds play and running that crazy play when we’d not really had great trouble in bounding most of the night. Also why make that statement about Glover and not play
him at all?
Need to win tomorrow night to avoid another bad start. Scott needs to start. I’m off to bed if I can only fall asleep!

Thoughts from tonight. The fans turning out for st john's was amazing. Idk how it seemed on tv, but we were about half the crowd. There may be fan fights tomorrow if we play Tennessee, whose fans are pretty obnoxious. Idk if zuby was meant to be a focal point on offense but he was very efficient in taking what was available to him. I'm waiting for kadary to assert himself. Not sure if he'll be a 100% tomorrow after his leg injury. Omier was best player on floor, aided by the refs not calling anything on him; no wonder why Rick wanted him. I think everyone would be happy with at least 2 wins in the bahamas. Let's go get them.

Nonsense . Had 5 point lead with 16 seconds to go . Had 2 point lead with 6.5 seconds left and we have our worst free throw shooter in the game and he gets the ball ?

Pitino was brought here , not to be competitive but , to win games like this against Ranked teams . Opportunity missed and not a good job by Rick at end of game . You get Zuby out of the game with the ball and 2
Point lead .
Zuby is our worst free throw shooter? I think he's like the 5th or 6th best free throw shooter on the team. And last time I checked you have to have 5 guys on court.

Whatever the case, I'm going to go with the instincts of the guy whose won two championships and 800 plus games over the "nonsense" of some guy whining on a message board.

Despite the teams playing in this tourney . It had a minor league feel to it all game

Slippery floor , little tiny hand towels to wipe up wet spots . Awful Refs . Lousy Time keepers .,

High School gym . Shall I go on .

And refs allowing Baylor to ice our free throw shooters was just bullshit. Rick may be playing a long game with these refs in case he sees them against Georgia and complaining about it would've delayed play even more. Like Rick said it was kinda poor sportsmanship by Baylor.

What I took from this game and the New Mexico game was that Pitino trusts 6 players against top competition. Our depth is overrated. Don't take it from me. It's Coach making that clear. Maybe as the season progresses, that will change.
Completely agree. Our depth only looks good against weaker teams. I don’t even think Pitino trusts Wilcher a heck of a lot and that is understandable. Until he hit that late three he turned tge ball over more then a few times a his handle once again was weak.

This team only goes 7-8 deep max.

Many will harp on the last 2 missed FTs by Zuby.
Smith could have stretched the lead to six with 18 seconds left but he only made one. Not to mention the crucial free throws the team missed in the second half that allowed Baylor to come back.
But the bottom line is that the game came down to those two free throws and he missed both. Blame goes to Pitino or if you trust Pitino’s coaching….. then Zuby.

I did not see the second half or OT’s aside from the quick torturous highlights. I am really surprised Prey did not get any minutes past that first stretch? He looked fantastic in the first half.

Side note, has SJU ever had a bigger lineup than
6’6 Richmond
6’7 Brady
6’7 Scott
6’11 Prey
7’1 Vince

If so, Brady won't play for at least a couple of weeks. God works in mysterious ways because a reluctant Pitino will now be forced to play both Glover and Prey more, both of whom should have been in the game at the end of the second overtime.

Pitino left an exhausted Zuby in the game which a rookie coach wouldn't do and both Smith and Wilcher were out of position on defense. At the very least, foul someone to avoid the three.

I feel really bad for Zuby who played his heart.

As someone said we could find 100 reasons....Luis grabbing the rebound, Smith not being 6 feet from Roach, etc., but Pitino now has to play players who need to be integrated better like Prey and Glover.

I give players like Zuby, Luis and Scott an A and Wilcher a B+. Richmond gets a C+ and Smith a B. Pitino gets a B for blowing his substitutions and clock management.
