Assistant

I recently watched some interviews of him. Smart, charismatic guy. Lavin will be able to boast tons of NBA connects with himself, Dunlap, Rico, Martin etc. Lavin almost building SJU "agency" for future NBA'ers. Not a bad strategy at all. Will sell prepping kids on playing in the NBA and boast a staff full of experience and connections. Not bad
.

Also, should note he would be HUGE in the development of Branch, Green and Harrison.

Moreso than Rico ?

Darrick dished 199 assists as a soph, and an UCLA 2nd best all time 217 as a junior, good for 4th all time best 636 in his 4 years (and another 1,500 in the NBA). Rico had 96 in his 5 year Bruin Career. Darrick has mentored guys like Jose Calderon, Juan Dixon, TJ Ford, and Jason Williams during his final NBA years. Rico is incredible on basic basketball skills, fitness, training etc. - but for specifically training PGs Martin would be huge...

Their will be new gigs available once the Big East gets away from ESPN. Plenty of room at the new network whichever it will be, when the new TV contract is signed. ESPN will find out that Karma can be a bitch when
you try and undermine a conference and then it comes back and bites you in the ..........

Ex coaches can line up soon.

What's Seth Greenberg up to?

Seth's taken Lavin's old gig at ESPN. Think he'll be exceptional there....

Hope so. He was royally scrod by VT. IMHO.

Did he really take his old gig since Lavin has been out for two years ;)

It's been reported that Sendek is close to signing Musselman (coached in the NBA Development League last year) and Greer (assistant coach with Portland in the NBA).  Better hurry, afterall, the season starts in October.

At the bottom of the forum index page, it says the newest member is Jerry Allocco. Gotta be related to Frank Allocco.

No surprise here. I would have loved Allocco but what kid in America wouldn't want Darrick Martin in his ear about the NBA?

"St. John's is going to hire former UCLA point guard Darrick Martin as its new assistant coach. Details to come on sportingnews.com"

I do like how Lavin is building a tree here at SJU. Hopefully it will continue with SJU guys in the future. Martin should help a ton with both guards and forwards and our offensive backcourt.

Definitely agree. He's building a tree, and in many cases they are guys he has ties to. It's nice to have a staff with connections and trust.

 Darrick Martin trivia

1. Coach Martin Finished his career in 1992 ranked first in UCLA basketball history In both assists (636) and steals (179).

2. Martin was a member of the Harlem Globetrotters In 2003.
