Assistant Coaches

Has Mike Rice been mentioned by anyone? He's going to get break soon.

I wouldn't hire him to coach a CYO team

I would not hire him to coach a cyo team, but I'd hire him as a college assistant.

Would you send Rice out on the recruiting circuit representing your school?
The man is absolutely nuts and wrapped tighter than a drum
No thanks - don't want him here

Whats your opinion of Harrison? He's rehabilitated himself the same exact way that Mike Rice did.

I have always been one of the biggest critics of Rice here. He could always coach. But his act on the sidelines bothered me. There is a line of demarcation separating emotions from competition to emotions bordering on instability. And I felt Rice crossed it frequently.

Of course the mere fact he coached that heaven forsaken, money pit of a school, NJ State, never helped Rice get in my good graces.

But I have to be fair, and give credit when it is due. Rice has overcome many of his anger issues by working hard at it. He sunk to low level, and picked himself up. He has become a mentor to others, including Harrison who speaks highly of him. He credits Rice for helping his anger issues.

That is to be commended. Our coach overcame his own demons and flourished. I hope the same for Rice. And I would be 100 percent on board watching Rice grow as a person while an assistant coach at SJU.

Besides, stories like this actually help recruiting. Kids can really connect with adults who are not afraid to discuss thier human imperfections.

Is Terrance Mullin still a possibility to be on staff in some capacity or has that lost steam? I remember people mentioning his name a bit early on.

Looks like a great choice for DOB. Young New Yorker with a strong resume.

@AdamZagoria: Brooklyn native Dan Matic of South Alabama is the new hire on Chris Mullin's staff at St. John's, source tells @SNYtv

@NYPost_Brazille: Also was told all signs pointing toward Mitch Richmond and Greg St. Jean joining Chris Mullin's staff. #

@NYPost_Brazille: At the moment, Greg St. Jean will likely be third assistant and Mitch Richmond special assistant, but could change. #sjubb

I sense another RU kidding hater. :)

I could get on board with that.

He is really tied in to the juco scene as well. This is the type of hire that the New York power brokers will get behind.

Harrison acted out as a kid; Rice as a 40 something year old adult
Rice's documented antics were about as vile as you can get
I have much more compassion for Harrison than Rice

Put St. Jean's .382 career HC record aside for a sec, you're talking a guy with 30+ years at ever level in the league. We're not talking a wet-behind-the-ears kid here.

It's Greg, not Garry.

Are you thinking about his father, Garry?

On Greg.

Going to be known as Coach Job!

@CoachRNaclerio: Just got a phone call from a person who just signed on to be a part of the St. John's basketball staff. Real good guy, real good get.

Any ideas who he's talking about?

Hopefully himself.

So you want a HS coach nicknamed Nutsy to fill the vacant spot? Hmm. That's a long, long way from an Eddie Pinckney.

If we're talking Naclerio or little St. Jean for final assistant spot, I'd take Ron all day. Doesn't matter though, because it was the DOBO on the phone and I like that hire.
