Around the Big East

Solid coach;

@JonRothstein: Xavier has extended the contract of @CoachChrisMack through the 2019-20 season, per the school.

Seton Hall's Auda, who just graduated, is rumored to be going to Europe to play pro instead of coming back for another year. That will definitely hurt them.

However, they just today picked up a 3-star PF for 2014, which should help offset that.

Auda would be big loss for them...makes them even more of a freshmen led team...w/o him they will struggle...

Which why I think Willard bought himself 2 years with that class because you are asking a lot for a bunch of freshmen most of whom are not even rated. And some local guys are way overrating that class. It has 1 really good player in that class. Because so many of these guys are local they acting like the class is better then it really is.

And if Whitehead does not stay more then 1 year then this class becomes downright ordinary.

Firmly believe St. John's looks like the Big East's top challenger to Villanova in 14-15. But Red Storm have to start delivering.

That's right. It will all depend on our shooting and rebounding. Hoping Jones has matured after sitting out this season. Need rebounding and scoring from him. We shall see.

I think increased rebounding will make up for any lack of offense fans are expecting. Just four extra rebounds a game means four times we get the ball that the other team doesn't. It adds up. No more Sanchez and Sampson (and hopefully not Pointer) dribbling 60 feet with the ball instead of getting it to a guard immediatley...I doubt Thomas even takes a dribble before unloading it. 2-3 three guys setting screens also means that we don't give their bigs a break by letting them stand straight up on the perimeter for 20 seconds.

He is 100% right and he is also 100% right that this is on Lavin and the staff. They should have been an NCAA team last year, despite the fact the year was not a disaster it was a disappointment.

But I do find it funny that several weeks ago people were on twitter and fan forums screaming that the team was going to be as bad as DePaul in terms of talent and that was why Lavin had to fired. Now those same people are arguing that Lavin has no excuses because we know he has, short of Nova, the most talented team in the BE!!! He can't win.

2 weeks ago we were a sinking ship. Greene and CO were leaving and we had no recruits. Gotta hand it to Lavin for getting the ship upright.

Great for conference RPI:

@JonRothstein: Creighton + Oklahoma will begin a home + home series next year beginning in Omaha, sources told @CBSSports. Return game in Norman in 15-16.

According to this link, there are already some non-conference games lined up for the Big East next year. Providence has quite a slate: FSU, Notre Dame, Michigan, BC, UMass & Kentucky, if this is accurate.

I don't follow the recruiting as closely as many of you, but I hear that the powerhouse ACC is far from dominating on the recruiting front with five or so of Scout's top 100 for the class of 15. It seems that conference affiliation is not a significant factor. If it was why would five kids leave a Maryland program that is going to the highest revenue conference of them all?

Maybe Val and this league will do well down the road.

For some strange reason, it just feels to me like Pinkston has been at Villanova forever

That's because he was one of the first kids Norm tried to recruit when he was hired here...what, 10 years ago?

This is Pinkston's 4th and final year of eligibility being played in the 5th year after his high school graduation.

He was suspended by Villanova before the start of his first season for an off campus incident.

His recruiting and ability to find players is not the problem, and never has been.

I never said it was. But that has come into question lately as well by many posters who can’t get over the end of the season and so insist on criticizing everything.
