Around the Big East

Not sure what thread to post this in, but Minnesota is now 8-2 and has won 5 straight since we beat them.

NJIT also followed up their shocking win at Michigan with a home win against St. Francis NY.

Creighton plays a tough St. Mary's team this week. Article gives you a sense of the Gaels. They have a talented, physical center who will be a load to handle. This is the game I fear most of our remaining games prior to BE play.

@whitebluereview: Creighton @BluejayMBB opponent on Saturday is St. Mary's. We talked to @rushthecourt WCC expert Michael Vernettihttp://t.co/wPZ0tWR31w

@NYPost_Brazille: Yes, it's early, but Joe Lunardi has seven Big East teams in his projected field of 68.

Creighton and St. Mary's just battling. Both look like pretty good teams.

Creighton looks even better than last year at the three but their defense is too passive. St Mary's looks really susceptible to ball pressure but Creighton sits back on them. Both these teams will be tough. Offensively Creight is all about drive and kick out. It works especially since they got multiple guys killing it.

After a fast start and mid-game lull, Xavier crushing Missouri by about 20 with time running out on Tigers' home court. Good win, especially after Creighton's loss earlier today.

DePaul was up 3 on Illinois St. with under a minute left. Redbirds just got a 4-pt play to take the lead.

Now a steal, basket, and foul. 72-69 with 42.8 to go.

@franfraschilla: So Duke and Virginia are playing only one time this year? And this is the best conference in basketball history?

Whitehead rookie of week in BE again. Harrison getting it for second time is positioned well for final BE POY.

I don't really get the point he's trying to make

What he is trying to say is that Duke and Virginia are the two best teams in the ACC and because there are so many teams they will not play each other twice. Right now the Big East teams are able to play each other twice which makes the outcome of the league very fair.
Let's say North Carolina is the 3rd best ACC team, is it fair for Virginia to play them twice while Duke plays underachieving Florida St twice. Is it fair to the fans to not be able to see all the best teams play in their arena?
I think that this is the point Fraschilla is trying to make.

this is true of all american sports really....

imbalanced schedules...why i love euro soccer...every team, plays every other team twice, once home, once away...end of season, most points win.

instead, the New Orlean A'ints might be 7-11 this year and make the playoffs while the Eagles could go 11-7 and miss it. it's why the undefeated seminoles are the 3rd or 4th ranked team in the playoffs. it's why it sucks that the mets would play six games against the yanks those years while someone else got a team less impressive for six games. and for what, the GIMMICK that is "playoffs." a gimmick that rewards teams that are hotter or have less injuries. it's why only a few teams in the nba east would make the playoffs if put out west. etc.

and while unfair, at least Duke plays a rough out of conference most years...so whatever.

that said, i love that the big east is a throwback to a real league with even scheduling...

is what it is, and it will never change (the unbalanced scheduling in american sports--we're just too geographically big)...so Fran, whatever...

Whitehead getting the necessary playing time to accomplish these things. Had he come to SJU it would
not be possible with reduced playing time. Briscoe will find these things out at Kentucky.
Very important for a recruit to understand all the ramifications of recruiting.
