Around the Big East

so I guess spending money to "renovate" CA was a complete waste of cash and should have been saved for a new arena.

It was the epitome of a band aid over a bullet hole.

You can count the teams in the northeast on one hand that have on campus arenas in the 10K capacity that are both attractive and a home court advantage. Even the Carrier Dome is a horrible basketball venue. Looks great on TV but the worst place for a fan to watch a game. It is all about winning and have a star player. The 500 billion that UCLA spent on Pauley means nothing if they can't get to the sweet 16. Unranked, and Pauley is never filled. Winning solves everything.

Few years ago went and saw SJU play Syracuse up at the dome. When I bought the tickets I thought my view would be great. You're right, it has to be one of the worst places to watch a bball game. Not spectator friendly whatsoever.

I went there 25 years ago for a St. John's game and a BonJovi concert. It was a terrible venue then. I can only imagine what it looks like now. MSG is a beautiful venue with the renovation complete. The history in that building is awesome and there are no bad seats.

Cali leads Syracuse 28-20 in 1st half

Update: now 34-22 at the half.

Cuse doesn't look that good right now, might not be ranked when we play them if this holds.

A home court that is an advantage.

i wish the garden was like that

STJ has had some nice wins at MSG the past 4 or 5 years.

Most with considerable amount of opposing fans.
MSG will never give us a true home court. All these teams that play games in NBA arenas have too many seats to fill and they are located in big cities with transplant grads all over the place.

The best case scenaio would be to have a 10,000 seat on campus arena and play one or two games like Duke and another big non conference opponent at MSG every year.

Even the "big" games for us at MSG dont come close to sell outs, and with a majority of the fan base that attends games living in Queens and Long Island, it would be more convenient for them to go too.

Of course, this idea is to sensible and undertaking something this big isnt something this athletic department is capable of....its ok to dream though.

That was Manetta's goal when he was AD

Then he hired Mike Jarvis and his dreams went up in smoke.

their zone this year so far is weak. Lots of holes. .Let's hope it stays that way through December.

By the end of the year Boeheim will have them playing a great zone. And by the end of the year Lavin will still have them playing something that look like a zone

In the meantime, let's relish the 73-59 thumping Cal handed them.

Temple has a great on campus arena but it came courtesy of that old horndog Bill Cosby. Think the CA upgrade was supposed to be for 30 million and they wound up spending 5 mill the rest was probably rerouted or pocketed by Harrington Manetta probably left because Harrington wouldn't let him do anything.

I caught a little bit of the Providence-Navy game last night. Providence looks good...real good. I suppose Navy might be really bad, but I have to say Providence looked way better against inferior competition than St. Johns did. The Providence center is very active, Dunn scores at will and the entire team is fast. Bentil will haunt St.Johns until he turns pro. Prediction: Providence sweeps the Johnnies this season.

Dun had 12 pts on 4-7 shooting and through 3 games is averaging 8ppg. That is not scoring at will. Really good player (14 assists last night) but not a dominant scorer.

Nice first half, so so second. Carrington played well with 11 points.

@NYPost_Brazille: Seton Hall tops Nevada in Paradise Jam opener, 68-60. Isaiah Whitehead (8 points) still looking to get on track.

They got a big break too, with Clemson losing to Gardner-Webb thanks to a meltdown of epic proportions. That gives the Pirates a clear road to the finals of that tournament.

Delgado with 9 rebounds (4 offensive). Whitehead aside, that was a decent 2014 class. Seton Hall is scary.

Interesting......Michael Perez had 12 pts. for Nevada. He was a SJU commit. Ultimately de-committed for UTEP.

Scary? It's scary that you think that win scared anyone.
