Around the Big East

Going from watching SJU/LIU to Creighton/Okla is like high school to college. CU such polished team offense, engaged on every single defensive possession, pretty basketball to watch. Would show team our full tape tomorrow followed immediately by this one, this is where we are vs. where our (mid level) competition is. Long way to go in 5 weeks.

Just had same thought. Two different universes. Our offense is tough to watch & our defensive concentration is sorely lacking.

A home court that is an advantage.

i wish the garden was like that

STJ has had some nice wins at MSG the past 4 or 5 years.

Most with considerable amount of opposing fans.
MSG will never give us a true home court. All these teams that play games in NBA arenas have too many seats to fill and they are located in big cities with transplant grads all over the place.

Creighton has been a huge addition to the new Big East. McDermott is a helluva coach and seems like a great person as well. This was a big win for the conference and hopefully the first of many. We can't afford to drop close OOC games this season.

SJU has a chance to help the league out big time next week. Let's stay positive.

Are you referring to the same Creighton team that beat SJU on a 30 foot prayer and then was beaten soundly by this same coached team from a different universe????

Seems to have been that way since what feels to be about 1950.

Yes, same one who was in the top 25 for the whole season, finished second in the conference, made BE final, and the big dance.

The best case scenaio would be to have a 10,000 seat on campus arena and play one or two games like Duke and another big non conference opponent at MSG every year.

Even the "big" games for us at MSG dont come close to sell outs, and with a majority of the fan base that attends games living in Queens and Long Island, it would be more convenient for them to go too.

Of course, this idea is to sensible and undertaking something this big isnt something this athletic department is capable of....its ok to dream though.

completely different team this year since they lost the player of the year, but that doesnt mean they will suck.

i thought they were being underrated in all of the preseason polls from the so called "experts" - and McDermott can coach...they will be tough to handle this year; and it is great to see them handle a team that will be in the upper part of the Big 12.

Great home environment, fundamentally sound, coachable kids with shooting skills, solid leadership & good team chemistry at first glance.

Funny you should mention a 10,000 seat arena at CA, was at the game last night and saying that very thing. Lot more convenient to get to than MSG.

It totally is! And I personally dont believe that MSG has the "lure" that we make it out to have. It's great, no doubt about it, but to 17 year old kids, i dont think its something that sells them on coming to a program...i would rather play at a state of the art on campus arena than half of my games at dilapitaded CA and the other half at MSG in front of 5,000 people, half of who are rooting for the opponent. And lets be honest, even with the "upgrades' Carnesseca Arena is completely outdated and replacing it with an on campus arena would not only be a huge upgrade and selling point to the program, but it would also show the commitment we have to matching the "power 5" every which way we can, like we claim.
